Planespotterx,

Noone wil go to your meet because it is only a few days before Xmas and people have already made other plans, and they have to spend their money on Xmas itself. You keep whining that noone will go to your meet but I doubt you've really thought about why they won't go.

British767

P.S: You say it's a mini meet, you've already got a few people to come, wouldn't that qualify as enough for a mini meet?

FRA sounds good. Hopefully are the spotting points as good as in AMS. It looks like I will join you guys as well. But I have first to check my agenda and the tickets fares.

But it would be great to you guys again as the AMS meeting was soooo great and funny.

Well from the last post in the previous thread (you still following me?) it looked like Ben wasn't up for taking the lead. Ben: I understand it is hard to take desicions, but Sander had to do them as well, and I don't think anyone didn't like it what he did. It can't all happen the way everyone likes, there are desicions that have to be made.

But if you really don't want to do it, I'll throw myself in (if no-one cares). Tho I won't do it alone, I want to do it with someone else. If one person wants to do it alone, fine by me as well.

Ok JRadier, lets try to make some decisions....

We set the date at the weekend of 19/20 of Februar 2005. You could get there earlier or leave a day later of course.

If a lot of ppl reject this date plz let us know and we will find another date. Since it is still 5 months and most hotel-website don't allow bookings for february yet, we have some time to settle on a final date.

Then the hotel issue. Would be great if we could all settle at the same hotel. While there is a Sheraton at the airport, most of us won't have that budget. These are some alternatives I found on the net just outside the airport area:

NH Frankfurt Rhein-Main
Mercure Frankfurt Airport
Holiday Inn Exp Frankfurt Arp
Perhaps a hotel in Raunheim which is close to the airport?
Or a cheap hotel at the airport?

Here we need some help from the FRA locals: which hotel is cheap, close to the airport via public transport (train) AND car, has car parks and a hotel bar...

Kind regards,
Erwin

The excuse-o-meter has been recalibrated with the new FRA parameters - the minimum excuse rating required for this meeting is 9.1 (equates to PLANETARY EMERGENCY or higher) so anything less than the imminent threat of an ice age won't be acceptible.

I can't recommend any of them, I've never been there.

But for me the 3 most convincing are:

Express By Holiday Inn FRANKFURT AIRPORT
Double 59.00 Euro
http://frankfurt-airport.hiexpress.com/framf
13km from FRA
newly opened
bus shuttle
free breakfast
lobby bar
186 rooms - double and twins

Nh Frankfurt Airport Hotel
Double 64.00 Euro
http://www.nh-hotels.com
2km from FRA
restaurant, cafe bar
shuttle service
158 rooms

InterCity Frankfurt Airport (ex Esprix)
Double 77.00 Euro
http://www.frankfurt-airport.intercityhotel.com
361 rooms
restaurant, pub "ju52" and bar
located at FRA, near Terminal 1 and 2

Personally, I tend to the InterCity FRA Hotel, great location!

What are your thoughts? What do the organizers and the locals think?

Daniel

Hotel In Mainz

Mon Oct 04, 2004 10:13 pm

Hi

Just a recommendation for a hotel.

http://www.ibishotel.com/ibis/fichehotel/gb/ibi/1084/fiche_hotel.shtml

The "Ibis" hotel in Mainz is located at the railway station "Mainz-Süd". There is a half-hourly rapid-transit railway to Frankfurt/Airport. Just 23 minutes, 3,25 EUR oneway. Very confortable and easy.

Prices are between 59 and 89 EUR.

Please contact me if you need more informations.

Greetings
Tobi

I am actually thinking that the best hotel would be the NH. It is close to FRA with a shuttle service, and is also very cheap compared to the one at AMS!

But of course I don't want to decide for everyone. What is everybody else's opinion?

As for the weather I think late March or early April will be better although there is at least one weekend this period I'm not able to attend. Only thing is I don't know which weekend yet.

Is it possible to have everyone accommodated in 1 or 2 hotels? This turned out to be working fine at AMS.

Isn't the October fest at Munich? Anyone up for a marvelous MUC Meet next weekend? Big grin

I stayed at the following hotels around the FRA airport area:

Dorint Frankfurt Dreieich

Not very recommendable because it is too far away from the airport and it doesn't offer an airport shuttle, so you have to take a taxi (approximately 10 EUR oneway).

Holiday Inn FRANKFURT-AIRPORT NORTH

A very good hotel with a free shuttle service to/from the airport. The only problem is that the hotel bar sucks, fellow A.net member B747-437B and I got kicked out one hour before the official closing time when we had a few drinks there back in January.

the NH-Hotel sounds good, but what about the InterCity Frankfurt Airport Hotel, English website:
http://www.frankfurt-airport.intercityhotel.com
Sounds also very promising, particularly the pub "ju52" and its located on the airport.

Just my 2cents

You are seriously planning a meet in February?  Wow!
Whatever hotel you choose, ask for group discounts.

As for myself: Ask me again in January. Another "depending on date" registration wouldn't help.

You are seriously planning a meet in February?

That is what I can also not understand. Ok, you can have luck and temperatures around 10°C, but you can also have 0°C and heavy snowfall. I had prefered DUB for a meeting in February bacause of the milder climate on the island.

Unless we all stay at one hotel, and it isn't drastically more expensive, I'll probably be at the Hotel Hamburger Hof, which is in the city, right across the street from the main train station (so getting to the airport won't be a problem).

It's part of an Expedia deal package, so I'm inclined to use it if it saves me money.

By the way, how many parts do you think this thread will have by the time it's all done?

My bet is about 10. Big grin

And about the weather: so long as it's better than North Dakota in February (which won't be hard), I'll be happy.

Oh well, the weather doesn't matter to me that much. But if I can get days off, I am going for sure.

Alex.

Well, I can only go Feb 19-20 (this is a holiday in the US, so it makes it easier), or March 12-20 (my spring vacation). So I'm hoping for those dates.

I'll probably be attending as well, depending on date. Unfortunately there is no good flight for me nearby enough so I will have to drive all the way to FRA. I am not local there, but am willing to drive some people around as long as a local goes with me to point the way.

I really want to fly there, but the only realistic airports for me are EIN and NRN and they don't have FRA flights.  Sad
