Weird Landing Of An Airbus - Is This Real?

Wed Oct 13, 2004 3:21 pm

Is this real? http://uk.rd.yahoo.com/promotions/attachments/*http://uk.download.yahoo.com/ne/fu/attachments/airlines.wmv

in case it is real - this landing has more common with a cangaroo rather than with flying an aircraft...
sorry if posted before but searching for words like "airbus" and "weird" will show millions of results so I refrained Big grin

This one comes up about every month

Funny as hell, actually it's an old commercial.

 Big thumbs up

Good one! After much replaying I think it's a model aircraft ??? First time I've seen it anyway. I can't imagine a real aircraft would be thrown about like that and also bounce on the runway like that either.

What's the 'this is space-walker' rubbish at the end ??

Cheers,

I really would not like to specify, I mean the approach looks normal but there is something strange looking about the bouncing bit, it seems to me too quick! Where did you get this in the first place?! Big grin

Now should it be real I would definitely like to see some of the pax after that flight!!!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

What exactly are you asking, like is it procedure for airplanes to 'bounce' when they land? If that was it, I don't think it should happen, I'm not a pilot though.

Its fake.

What you don't see at the end is the plane quickly skidding to a stop right on the runway. Probably only used about a thousand feet on the rollout.

actually, it's what happens when airbus flight control computers disagree with what the pilot wants to do... Big grin

It is fake - the clip was part of a Dutch "beer" (sorry, guys! Big grin) commercial.

What exactly are you asking

Asking if this was a real landing or some "studio designed video" - the approach looked real to me but this hopping and bouncing looked so strange since it is very quick as stated by James.

In case it is real it is a proof that Airbus builds the strongest aircraft in the world Big grin.

I know what I will do - I'll send this link to Airbus and ask if this was real - maybe they start testing their aircraft this way too ....

=TW741=

Edit:
Thanks Tristar - explains everything - meaning - Dutch beer makes you hop around ...

It's a model landing on a fake runway set up near a real runway. The distances, camera lens and size of the model were calculated such that it looks like a real airplane landing at that real airport.

Very detailed model, though; I commend the model makers. And it is a really funny ad - I laughed out loud the first time I saw it.

You can see it´s not a real A320 because of the tail fin, it´s the wrong shape.

If you ever get a chance to see the entire video, you will see that it transitions from a real aircraft on short final, to a fake aircraft bouncing and then back to a real aircraft rolling out. The second transition happens right before your eyes. The camera blurrs a bit, if you look carefully the tail section changes slightly, and then the beacon starts flashing (where as on the fake plane thats bouncing, there is no beacon operating).

It's an old Heineken commercial aired prior to a Euro 2004 qualification match between Holland and Austria. In the ad the captain welcomes the Austrian team to Holland and hopes the "hard" landing hasn't "inconvenienced" them.
