Erm so my favourite soap opera........None, sorry mate I just don't watch them. I used to watch Neighbours, Eastenders, Corrie and Hollyoaks but I just can't be assed anymore.
It's alright though, if I wanted to start watching again i'd only have to tune in for 20 minutes and I would have caught up on the plot fully. I mean they are so simple and just stupid. Maybe thats why it's fun to watch them.

OK, I hope you realise how personal, and sad, it is to admit your soap preferences. Its like admitting which political party you vote for! I have had therapy over the years to try and whittle me off those life-sapping storylines. I got to the point about a year ago where I watched no soaps!
However, due to circumstances and being weak-willed, I have succumed to watching Emmerdale and Corrie again. Both are ridiculous and humourous (due to being ridiculous), which offers a break from the rigours of reality from 7pm-8pm most evenings. I don't take either seriously but are good for laughs.
I got to the point about a year ago where I watched no soaps!

I'll go for the classics. "Dallas" and "Dynasty." Okay, I was a little young when these were out, but I watch them ocassionally on Soap TV on my DirecTV satellite. Started watching "Dynasty" because we have a family friend who was a main character on the show. John James, who played "Jeff Colby" keeps his horses with the same trainer that I do. I had no idea who he was, until my mom flipped out at a horseshow when she met him.

I miss the soaps that got me yelling: Knots Landing, Guiding Light, and Melrose Place. Yes, Guiding Light. When Frank had the chance to throw Brent off the lighthouse was great! I tried getting into Passions but it was been the same thing for a year, so I gave it up.

Neighbours when i get a day off (like today) Hollyoaks at work (well, they have a telly, and i break at 1815 to 1900, so may as well watch it) and that about it, work till 2200 every night

I loved Dallas (it gets repeated in France on Canal Jimmy, 3 episodes every Saturday YAY !), Dynasty, Melrose Place, also The Bold and The Beautiful (was VERY popular in South Africa back in the early 90's). There was a South African soap I used to love too, called 'Egoli' - I don't know if its still on, but it used to be great - it was bilingual (English and Afrikaans), and it was so cheesy, but I loved it. The poor white trash family living in Jan Hofmeyer used to remind me of the people I worked with at SAA Cargo
English soaps - my fave was always Eastenders, even though its grim and dreadful and has horrible people in it - I especially love the traditional Christmas 'sudden and SO unexpected' death sequence HAHAHAHA. I don't get to see it now, as I don't get BBC Prime on my cable, so I don't know who's snogging who.

Susan Lucci gets a lot of press for her tenure and lack of emmy wins for "All my Children," but, if I were to pick my absolute, long-time, day-time drama goddess diva it has to be Deirdre Hall as Dr. Marlena Evans Brady Black on "Days of our Lives." She is gorgeous!
Oh how I long for the day when the skies were truly Friendly!

I used to watch Sunset Beach, after school, but nothing ever happen so a stopped to watch it.

Back in the early 80's, I was into the Luke and Laura thing on 'General Hospital'.
I was more of a night-time soap fan. 'Dallas' was always my favorite', but I also liked 'Falcon Crest' and "Dynasty'. Nowadays, my night-time network TV is pretty much limited to 'CSI', 'Survivor', and the 'Amazing Race'. Otherwise, it's on some sporting event.

JGPH1A yes indeed Egoli is still running, I visited the set a few weeks ago as they needed some medical equipment for an episode about one of the characters ending up in ICU following a hijacking. Friday was episode 3,275!
There are other local ones too, like Generations and 7de Laan (7th Avenue). These are extremely irritating to watch as they are in 2 or more languages with English subtitles when they characters are speaking something else.
The Bold and the Beautiful is still running, as is Days of our Lives, All My Children and The Young and the Restless. One of the characters on Y & R is played by a former Egoli central actress (she was Bienkie in Egoli).
