DAY After Tomorrow

Tue Oct 26, 2004 8:03 pm

In the film (great specil effects, watched it 3 times in 2 days, sad, but true) there is a clip of a downed Avianca jet. Is this a real downed plane, im sure i have seen the pic of it somewhere, and i typed in the reg number, but could see nothing of it in the crash section. Can anyone help with this at all.

Yes, it really crashed in New York in January, 1990, after failing to communicate to the TRACON controllers at JFK of the gravity of the fuel starvation situation they were facing. They had gone missed on approach, and then been in a holding pattern for a long time and were running on fumes.

They should have declared a fuel emergency, but they never did. Instead, they communicated their, "fuel problems." The controller didn't hear the magic words, and didn't clear them straight in. As a result, the 707-320 crashed in the woods where you saw the picture.

I do remember that, and then the terrible terrible cast made some comment about how flying wasn't safe when they saw it.

I thought it was one of the worst movies I've ever seen in my entire life. It both sucked and blowed.

it was in the news reports at the school, when they change the channel... right after the tornadoes in los angeles. they show pictures of aircrafts which crashed in the midwest. but they're reallu just using real footage of old air crashes.

Well, I VERY biased toward disaster movies. I love them. So I do say that my favorite disaster movies are probably as follows:

*This discludes airplane movies

1. Independence Day
2. Twister
3. The Day After Tomorrow (I really liked it, lol, very good, except for acting I must say)
4. Deep Impact
5. Armeggedon
6. The Core

I love disaster movies a lot for some reason.

Didn't they show this after the guy made a comment of your odds being 1 in a million of going down due to turbulance?
I have no idea what I'm doing...
