Yep, thats about the size of it...
(Actually we do have a proper Air Force with F-18s and Hercs and such, its small compared to say the United States', but it still counts.)

Haha that's a good pic of the bike, even better one of the Canadian navy! I've only been in Canada for a little under 3 years now but i get embarrased by the state the armed forces are in.....years of defence budget cuts and lots of commitments have stretched the CF to the point where i really think we're no longer effective. Of course, with our 'southern' neighbours being where they are many people think we don't need a large armed forces seeing as the americans can defend us if needs be. But with the equipment we do have, ie ageing C-130's, F-18's, Sea Kings, submarines that don't wanna work etc etc i wonder what these people are thinking. The CF are being strangled to death while being overworked, and it's about time we seriously (and i mean seriously) undertook a massive, widesweeping review and get our acts together.....unfortunately until something disastrous happens ie, equipment failing at critical times causing deaths, then i don't think anything will be done.
Oh wait, maybe the resson why hospitals are having their budgets cut is because the government is gonna give the money to the armed services! lol

First off that bike is awesome. Secondly, as far as the Canadian Armed Forces go. Canada doesn't have many enemies and any that it has are shared with the U.S. Therefore anyone invading Canada would have to go through the US first, and that probably is not going to happen any time soon. I agree that it is important to have updated equipment, but the size just isn't necessary.

The Canadian armed forces have an excellent and proud history. I know you guys have internet access....check it out some time.
We have suffered some reduction in troops....like recently in Afghanistan when the US air force decided to thin out our troops by bombing them. But I guess that sort of humor is inappropriate....

As for the RCAF, realistically, it's not in that bad of a shape, especially compared to many other 'liberal' western countries. If the CC-130 and CH-124 (dreaded Sea King) fleets were upgraded/replaced and replaced respectively, we would have a model modern air force. The remaining 80 CF-18s may be ageing but are still more than adequate for the country's needs (and have plenty of room for affordable upgrades to improve both A-A and A-G capabilities, I'm thinking HMDS+HOB SRAAM, AMRAAM, JDAM...). The CH-146 and CH-149 fleets are both very young, as well as the CC-150 and CC-144s. The entire trainer fleet (leased AFAIK) are also on par or better than any NATO member's, including the U.S. This leaves us with the CP-140/A, Dash-8, Buffalo and Otter fleets, which although somewhat ageing are still well suited for their missions.

For the last time people....it was the English. Sure, it was the English living in Canada who later became Canadians but the fact is...it was the ENGLISH who burnt down the White House. I mean, when we talk about the French and Indian wars here in the States we talk about the French and English at war, not the Québécois and Americans! Same premise. The war happened before the US and Québec existed so to use modern names for places that didn't technically exist at the time is incorrect. Canada didn't exist as a nation until 1867 under the British North America Act. So let it go!

Are you sure about that. I think I remember reading something about trying to get a dutch F-16 out of a mine field at the end of the Kabul airport after it overran.

The Netherlands is definetely one country that provided AS to the coalition in Afghanistan, their sister European F-16 operators (referring to Belgium, Denmark, Norway, not Portugal and Italy) might have pitched in too on a rotating basis.

Since the Matanuska was in a Canadian port, you can't call it a blockade. It was an illegal vessel seizure. For it to be a blockade, they would have had to go surround it in Ketchikan.
Seizing Canadian citizens in transit through US airports and deporting them to Syria -- that's an act of war. And I know with your superior knowledge of the War of 1812 that you'll remember that seizing folks on ships was one of the main reasons the US went to war against Great Britain.

Today, out of approximately 6300 personnel in ISAF, 1000 belong to the French armed forces. France is thus the United States’ second-largest partner in Afghanistan with a total of 1670 French troops.

Participation in Afghanistan counts for nothing. Canada has (had?) significant naval units -- 6 warships -- in the Persian Gulf supporting US Navy operations, and I believe one part of the operation is now (or was) commanded by a Canadian naval officer with US ships under his command.
Canada also has troops on the ground -- not many because of the sorry state of our armed forces, but they're engaged. Also some Aurora patrol aircraft were sent there. And I think they've earned some citations from US forces, incredibly.
