That's not an F-16 believe it or not (and no, I'm not referring to the bike!).
As for the RCAF, realistically, it's not in that bad of a shape, especially compared to many other 'liberal' western countries. If the
CC-130 and
CH-124 (dreaded Sea King) fleets were upgraded/replaced and replaced respectively, we would have a model modern air force. The remaining 80 CF-18s may be ageing but are still more than adequate for the country's needs (and have plenty of room for affordable upgrades to improve both A-A and A-G capabilities, I'm thinking HMDS+HOB SRAAM, AMRAAM, JDAM...). The
CH-146 and
CH-149 fleets are both very young, as well as the
CC-150 and
CC-144s. The entire trainer fleet (leased AFAIK) are also on par or better than any NATO member's, including the U.S. This leaves us with the
CP-140/A, Dash-8, Buffalo and Otter fleets, which although somewhat ageing are still well suited for their missions.
