A+/Network+/Security+ Certifications

Wed Feb 02, 2005 12:06 am

Hello all,
You shall (...) not see many stupid threads from me this week as I will (me) be testing for A+ hadware/OS, Network+ and Security+ certifications.
However, if I get those, what will it give me in terms of career opporunities/pay increase Big grin

I was going to get an MCSD, but decided against it after so many IT pros said it wasn't worth it. At the time, that's when the sh*t was hitting the fan from all of the outsourcing over seas.

It seems to be recovering much more now. Good luck on the test!

A+ is worthless, took me 10 minutes max to pass each part. It's simply the GED of computers.

Myself I am MCSE, A+, Net+, and CCNA. Otherthan my MCSE used for my Microsoft Certfied Partner status the rest have been worthless.
At worst, you screw up and die.

I agree with PPGMD

IT certifications are about as worthless as my Bachelor of Arts (Communications) from the University of Pittsburgh. I attended TechSkills for 2 Years. I have Comptia A+, Network+ & Cisco CCNA Certifications. It is hard to find even an entry-level PC Repair job.

The coursework is interesting & informative. You will have a greater understanding of PC Technologies, Network Technologies, Network Components & Wireless Technologies. However, If you utilize the Internet, you will find a lot of technical IT information.

Try http://www.cisco.com/en/US/support/index.html, they offer a lot of in-depth product info for free. You are able to save almost every article in PDF on your hard drive for off-line access.

In reality, the only benefactors of IT Certifications are the Educational Schools & their profits. Although, Ireland has become an IT & Technology center in the European Union. Perhaps, Ireland offers more opportunities than the US or Canada (North America). If you are able to take courses for cheap, why not?!

Best Wishes!

Tom

It will get you nothing. I got A+ certified in 2003. It doesn't even help pad a resume.

My dad got A+ and MCSE certified after he got laid off, people always ask me how I know so much about computers. I say my dads A+ certified, they get confused  Smile/happy/getting dizzy.
