Things To Do In Tokyo

Sat Mar 12, 2005 1:40 am

Does anyone have any suggestions for things to do in Tokyo for a week in a late March? I am open to pretty much anything.

Thanks.

Try not to get lost. Try not eat something that's not intended for human consumption (by western standards). Try not to get arrested. And whatever you do, don't get piss drunk. God knows where you'll wake up!

the subway system is pretty easy to use. all the machines have an english option which makes life alot easier when you don't speak japanese. Also I found that pointing and noding was the best way to get what you want.

Safety Dude,

Tokyo Tower, Imperial Palace & Roppongi. I lived in Tokyo from 1984-1990 in Roppongi. Roppongi is the night-life center & foreign (GaiJin) friendly. Click on my username & contact me if you want. I may be able to help you with specifics based on where you will be staying. The end of March & early April is usually Cherry Blossom time (Sakura Matsuri).

defo go and catch the Cherry Blossom, there is a good display just adjacent to Tokyo Tower at Zojoji Temple, well worth a look also is the Tsukiji Fish Market, but you'll have to wake early for that! Shinjuku, just for the craziness of it and Shibuya, cos everything is so amazingly avant-garde and over the top there!

you'll love Tokyo! it's one of my fave places! but i'd describe it as a hard place for a foreigner and it's not really a tourist city.

enjoy the trip

I've been reading some travel brochures on Tokyo and it seems that a sidetrip to Hakone/Izu is very popular (as a daytrip or 1 night stay). Not exactly sure what they have there, any recommendation? I'll be in Tokyo next month and am thinking of venturing out of the city before I head for Osaka.

Drink Sake, eat noodles....

Just kidding

Just walking around down town Tokyo is cool enough. Check out the neon in the Shinjaku (SP?) district. The Japanese are very nice, they will be glad to help you if you get lost. (Not that I am speaking from personal expierience)
