Should The White Album Be Officially Re-titled?

Sun Mar 13, 2005 1:44 pm

Greetings!

As I am sure many of you classic-rock-ofiles know, The Beatles came out with a kick ass album, back in 1968. The album was self-titled and featured a plain white jacket cover, with only "The Beatles", written across it in black, being the only wording.

Officially "The Beatles" was supposed to be the title, but scores of people had come to know it as "The White Album."

So....do you think it should be officially re-titled this? Would there be a way to do so this many years after?

Cheers -

Kaust,

I thought this was going to be an ACLU topic. Eww, The White Album is offensive, we should call it the Rainbow Coalition Album.

Thank God that isn't the case. Anyway, who cares. It's been The White Album for decades as far as most are concerned. When it is listed somewhere they can call it: "The Beatles (The White Album)"

I was thinking, "The Anglo Album?"

All sarcasm aside, I wasn't meaning anything policital by it, though in all fairness, it WAS the album that drove Charles Manson to madness....

Actually, the original version of the album had "The Beatles" in plain white lettering that was embossed. There was also a "serial number" just below this.

Anyway, No. I wouldn't change a thing. Is there really any great need for this?

I've sometimes referred to it as the Number 9 album because of the Revolution No. 9 song on it.

Number 9... Number 9... Number 9...

One time when a bunch of friends were listening to the album (back in the late '70s), we had just heard that song and and started to mimic the Number 9 phrase. My friend's mother told us to stop; the mimicing was driving her nuts (ironically, the album belonged to her). Shortly after her telling us, she called over to her husband (who was in the kitchen at the time) to confirm how many plates to set up for dinner.

He responded, "Nine."

She freaked.  laughing

Bull! He was mad before he listed to some music.

As for changing the name...what crap!! Is there really a movement to have it re-titled? I drive a black car. Is that offensive? Should I call it 'really, really dark grey'?

Albums don't drive people to madness...guns do.

How about Zepplelin 4? Maybe we should call it "Picture of an old guy carrying sticks".

Anyone remember the old Montrose "Jump on it" album of a woman's red swimsuit clad torso? We used to call it "The crotch album". It should be re-released with a bit of "camel toe".....

I take you've never had a little sister constantly playing Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, Backside Boys, etc., etc.
