Name your biggest differences between the US and UK.

I found that London was exactly like New York

What they both have:

Bad Drivers
Good Culture
Good Food
Nice People (Yes, they do)

What London Has that New York Doesn't:

British Accents
Driving on the Right Side of the Road

What New York has that London Doesn't:

(REALLY) Big Buildings
Brooklyn Accents
Smell of Piss Everywhere

I'd say it's driving - and how we both drive on opposite sides of the road.

Secondly I'd say the women.

Third, the temperature of the beer they serve at the pub.

Fourth, the number of toasters. I walked into an electronics store near York and they had two rows of toasters. I thought that was a bit strange.

Oh believe me I have...Driven on the 133 (or was it 33?) from East Windsor to Hamilton. Jug handles are just wannabe roundabouts. Except for maybe DC, Ive never seen roundabouts here in the US like the one Rj111 posted.

I can drive UK roundabouts because that's where I learned to drive them. I get all screwed with the American ones.

My GF was totally amazed that I could simply hop into the driver seat in the UK and drive like I lived there. bigthumbsup

When I hit the first roundabout leaving Heathrow she was looking around like she had no idea what I was doing or where I was going. scared

It was Junction 4a of the M4 & A4. But I knew exactly where to go and how to get where I wanted.

We speak proper, like wot the Queen does, we eat with our mouths closed, we don't take the rest of the worlds fairy stories and present them as facts, we have a right to be anti-French and they are only there cos we let them. There's a ton of differences between the United Kingdom and the United States:

DRIVING

UK- drives on the left
US- drives on the right

UK- narrow, claustrophobic streets and dual carriageways but well maintained
US- wide, open stretches of roadway.. but some areas are terribly maintained.

UK- extensive use of roundabouts
US- rare instances of roundabouts, especailly on the west coast

UK- speeds and mileage posted in metric
US- speeds and mileage posted in English

CARS

UK- smaller, more compact cars and vans.. no SUVs
US- "the bigger, the better", huge cars, vans and tons of SUVs.

FOOD

UK- KFC only consists of chicken and French fries
US- KFC offers more sides and choices including mashed potatoes and corn.

Theres a ton more but I don't feel like posting more.

No SUV's? I think you may be wrong there young man. We even have a Black Hummer on the island!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! UK is swarming in SUV and 4X4 wannabe's. And the UK is NOT metrically signposted - YET!

The rest is fairly sound I think.

It's only Johnny foreigner across the Channel that uses metric stuff on the roads.

Anyway also words are different, like Lift for elevator. And also the first floor in a building is 0 not 1. That is in most places except for the US.

I am not implying anything. I am saying that there is little in the way of 'British' or 'English' food, but rather a lot of food from other countries and which we have developed from other countries' food. OK, so it's probably the same in the USA to a certain extent, but to say that only fish and chips is nice is to say that McDonald's in the USA is the only nice thing. Big grin

OK, many English ales and bitters are served at just under room temperature, because that's the temperature they're meant to be served at! Personally, I don't drink them, I drink lager in the UK, which is served COLD!

England has a multitude of different restaurants, and its silly to say that we only eat fish and chips (which are, however, lovely!) in some English towns there are more curry houses and Chinese takeaways than there are McDonalds (thank God!)

The US likes big gas guzzling cars... The UK invented the Mini!

Apart from Frasier, The Simpsons and Family Guy, American comedy sucks dirt. English comedy is timeless, its all about wit and taking the piss out of ourselves... and the French.

UK = Monty Python, US = That 70's Show... Enough said!
