Eurovision Song Contest

Thu May 12, 2005 7:20 pm

OK, you Europhiles, who is going to be glued to the TV on Saturday to watch the Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday?

Personally, I will be sat at the end of Ronaldsway's runway just in case something happens - infinately preferable to watching that crap on telly!!

Terry Wogan is the only bright spot there, and even he won't drag me to the telly.

OK, time to own up, who will be watching?  wideeyed

French TV is so po-faced about the whole thing, its desperately boring. No fun without old Tel taking the mick out of everyone. Still, it might be good to watch towards the end to see "Royaume-Uni, nul points !" -

Those fine examples of British songwriting and performing that entered the competition over the last, say, 10-15 years, are the reason why so many Euros would love to kick you out of Europe...the unswerving unability of Englands's football team to win a big tournament and those many laughs we have on your account keeps you in, though  Wink Big grin

Andreas, right up until your last sentence I was in total support of your good self. But, to try and extract the urine from our wonderul, talented and hightly overpaid footballers is unforgivable. They are prime examples of what every Englishman should strive to become.

Wasn't there a year where you'd won it so many times in succession that it had pretty much bankrupted RTE hosting it every year and so they prayed for a really bad Irish entry that meant that they wouldn't have to host it yet again (for JUST ANOTHER YEAR !!!) ??

Exactly, back in the late 80's early 90's Ireland was proud to be unstoppable in its Eurovision quest. The it started to get a bit monotonous and we thought we should give the rest of you a chance, so over a few pints of the black stuff we came up with a grand excuse... we'll say RTE is nearly bankrupt and so for the next year or so (and unfortunately the negative trend continues) we'll send sh**e entries.

But joking aside. Very true Cornish. Must say there was a song some time in the 90's which I really like "Rock n' Roll kids". I'm sure you all know the one I'm talking about! Don't you?

Ever since Cornwall failed to get through Eurovision pre-qualifying some years ago - with our entry losing to a blind, one legged gypsy from Moldova, in what was a blatant example of political voting by ex-Soviet states, I've boycotted watching the main event in protest Big grin

I heared the norwegian commentary said one of his favourites was the band which he compared to Nightwish and Evanescence. He liked the really dark gothic element in it. It was just a girl singing with some guys playing a moderatly tempoed pop song on their guitars in the background.

Just when I thought it couldn't get more stupid, this guy tops it off. And he calls himself a music expert? Get a new job...
