Ever Had A Psychic/Spooky Moment?

Fri Jul 15, 2005 9:41 pm

A friend of mine reminded me of my biggest psychic moment last night...

We were sitting in his car about 15 years ago and had just got some chow at a drive-thru burger dump. His car radio was on and the station was playing some awful song and I said "Damn, can't they play anything decent like "Tainted Love" or something?" I hit one of the programmed station buttons and "Tainted Love" started playing, from the beginning. He looked at me like I was from Mars.

My other truly creepy moment was at work about 10 years ago. I was managing a Blockbuster Video and this woman we all detested came in with her 3 bratty kids. She was one of the worst parents ever as she completely ignored her demons while they trashed the place. I had a chicken foot on a stick I bought in New Orleans which was personally hand cursed by a voodoo priestess. We treated it as a joke and used to wave it "high maintenance" customers as they left to "curse" them. Anyway, as this swamp sow left with her piglets, I waved the chicken foot at her and as she pulled out of the parking lot a truck hit her car. No one was hurt, but the car was basically totalled. She didn't come back for close to six months! She used to come in every week.

Anyone else care to share their "psychic moments"?

I have a spooky moment every time I log onto A.net. Why? Because I keep thinking this is all familar, but I just can't picture it. Is it in my head?  Silly

That radio thing has happened to me several times too. Also, once when I went to the gym, I thought how it would be perfect if they'd play "Breakaway" or "Dare you to move" or "Ocean Avenue". Well, these three songs came on about a minute later, in that exact order! What are the chances of that...

Also, not too long ago, I was driving down the road and, for no reason at all, I had a feeling that Kevin (Diamond on here) had a migraine that day. Sure enough, when I talked to him that night, I was right. I was pretty impressed by that.

Yes I have had numerous experiences like that.

2004; A friend and I went were out in the city; with not much doing so we decide to head to a small place that has live bands. And I remember saying to my friend that wouldn't it be good to see a band that then hits the big time. "well Australia anyway" so went and watch 2 bands play in front of about 50-60 people. In the last year the band "Thirsty Merc" have had 3 songs in the top 10 in Australia.
2001; going to the airport I had this really bad feeling that something might happen, you know the line that you are more likely to crash on the way to the airport than on the plane, well got hit side on by another car; both cars were drivable and I didn't miss my flight but rather a scary way to start a holiday.
1994; I was on holiday and had been staying with some friends; one of the younger family members had been spending time at the beach; he had been explaining how long he could hold his breath under water and stuff like that; I remember thinking that the water is dangerous and you got to take care. A week later this young person drowned.
1990: I had been planning to make a small sailing boat which I hadn't yet started. Well I had been thinking how good it would be to have a boat that was white with yellow sail colour panel; well the next day I went to the club no boat and ended up sailing on this boat with that exact same colours that I had dreamed. Later I built a boat with that colour combination.

There are others but thats a start.

A friend of mine was going to record Eric Clapton's "Layla" from a 12" record to reel-to-reel tape. He fired up the stereo and was just lowering the needle to the record when it started playing. He stood there and stared at the needle NOT TOUCHING the record and the music playing.

After a minute he realized that FM radio was selected and it was coming over the radio. Something of a coincidence though. Momentarily spooked.

Back in 1984 in college a bunch of us were sitting around listening to music. As it was Jim Morrison's birthday, we put on "The End." We all sat there just kind of listening, and during the apocalyptic finale, we heard a large crash in the bedroom of the girl who lived there. She had a large Jim Morrison mirror, and it had fallen from the wall and there was a big crack running right through his face.

This happened back in 2000, I was working at the Queen Mary in Long Beach. I had gone outside to one of the upper decks to get some air. The ship is docked in Long Beach harbor and there is what was called the "moat" around it. I was standing against the railing looking east towards downtown Long Beach and I spotted some poor bird struggling on the surface of the water in the moat. It was flapping its wings and fighting to keep from drowing. I felt helpless not being able to help the poor thing, and eventually it tired out and lay lifeless on the surface of the water, wings spread out.

I went back to my office, and turned on the radio. A news break had come on telling about the Alaska Airlines plane that had just gone down in the ocean off of Ventura County. It happened at the exact same time as I was watching this poor bird struggle in the water.
Oh how I long for the day when the skies were truly Friendly!

It was a quiet late Saturday morning in December 1995. Out of the blue the phone rings. After the first ring, my first thought was that my Grandmother (father's side) had died. The phone was answered a couple of rings later and sure enough, she has passed earlier that morning.

The spooky thing was that she hadn't been sick nor was she terribly old.

This wasn't spooky or psychic, but was certainly against the odds:

34 years ago four of us were going to play a game of cards, and we decided to pick cards to decide the teams. We shuffled the deck a few times, spread the deck out over the table, and took turns drawing. The first person drew the jack of spades. The next one drew the queen of spades, and the third drew the king of spades.

The 4th person wasn't in the room at the time, so we waited for him to come, already amazed at our little run. When he came in we said, "Eddie, come grab the ace." He walked over to the table and picked a card from of the pile, and sure enough it was the ace of spades.

I later figured the odds of that happening was 1 in 6.5 million. (52 x 51 x 50 x 49)

I was young, around oh, 7 or 8 I would say.

I had a model 747 plane i was flyin around on the kitchen table, just playin around...then I realized that one of the engines was missing (it was one of those snap-on planes)...so i got sad, looked all over the floor n table and whatever, then i sat back down and...the engine fell from the sky (ceiling). all that there was was a ceiling. i was like wtf (well i was a kid so i was probably actually thinking, wow cool!), cuz there was no place it couldve fallen from...soo weird but i was thankful to what/whoever gave me my engine! i no longer have this model plane with me. lost it long ago.

Technically, yes, but remember that it only seems significant after the event. The chances of drawing any four particular cards from a deck is the same - but no-one think that they've "beaten the odds" if they just pick four unconnected cards.

You'd have felt it was just as strange if you'd picked the J, Q, K and Ace of Hearts. Or perhaps the Ace, Two, Three and Four of Clubs. Or the Seven, Eight, Nine and Ten of Diamonds. The availability of these other "linked" combinations brings the odds of generating a run right down.

If you'd said beforehand that you were going to pick the J, Q, K and Ace of Spades - and then managed it - then you could really claim to have beaten the house. And been banned from every casino in Vegas.

One Night during a Night Shift,I walked out for a snack thru the Main Entrance which is better illuminated, especially at nights.

I noticed a person smoking a cig in the far cornernear the rear Entrance on the opposite side which is not well illuminated but a shorter route to the canteen.

As I approached the spot, the person gradually moved away very normally. The persons outline resembled an old AME from Kolkata I knew.He used to consider us other younger AMEs to be very nearlike sons to him.

In fact I was sure it was him.So I changed my route & moved towards the rear Entrance, thinking I'll meet the person too.But when I reached the spot there was no one around,There was no way the person could have dissapeared,as ahead was an open Parking space.

I could not understand how someone could just not be there,Even if the person had ran off,I was so near the spot,I would have noticed.

There after when I returned back from the canteen this time using the Normal route I seen an Accident between a Catering truck & a Car,there were casualties.Luckily I avoided that route.

On returning to my Aircraft to continue Mx I got a call,to inform us all that the Old AME Friend had passed away earlier that night.

I felt a weird warm & then cold chill at that time.It was scary.I still remember that day.It was as if the person image was to divert me from the normal entrance.I dont believe in Ghosts, but I had no explanation for this coincidence.

My Spookiest Experience till date.I at times spent time trying to find a rational answer to the event, but still struggle.

Your point is well taken, and is a valid observation. I suppose what made it particularly notable to me is that it was a run to what we considered to be the highest card in the deck.

My family were going to fly on TWA 800, but we rescheduled because the travel agent got our dates mixed up. So the day of the disaster (before it occurred) I made the offhand comment "If we flew TWA, we'd end up in the ocean." I have no clue why I said that. Then a short while later, the news came on. I was really spooked by that.

One day I said that I was scared to walk home from work because a car might hit me. Well, sure enough, as I was crossing the street, I was one lane away from getting hit by a car that ran the red light. I consider that more coincidence though, because that happens to me at least once a month. (nearly getting hit, not predicting it)

Plus the radio thing. I'll often wake up with a song in my head and when I get to work and turn on the radio, that song will play. I hate when that happens.

I've been told that what I used to think was my "psychic ability" is a combination of two things: 1) acute sensory awareness and synaethesia, and 2) synthetic intelligence.

I used to think I was psychic because I can often sense when people have neurological problems, especially epilepsy. Mind you that I *do* have to spend some time around the person in question, but their condition may not be obvious at all (i.e. no Medic Alert bracelet.) What I figured out is that I've learned how to interpret certain physical signs that most others won't pick up. I have the sense that since my brain doesn't work quite right, I may be picking up on others who have similar problems (although I do not have epilepsy.) In any case, I'm able to put all of those little cues and clues together to get a picture of the person's overall neurological well-being.

[No, I can't tell by the Internet. I have to be around you, in person, for at least an hour.]

In terms of the acute sensory awareness and synaesthesia - I apparently can focus in on certain sounds and because my senses cross over [synaesthesia: a subjective sensation or image of a sense (as of color) other than the one (as of sound) being stimulated] I can get an image when I hear something. For example, I used to "know" that a friend of mine was back at the dorm well before she came in the door from the stairway. My doctor and I discussed this and realized that I knew her particular rhythm on the stairs [footfalls] and that this was giving me a clue that she was on her way in well before I was consciously aware of the sounds.

In terms of the evolution of my beliefs about psychic phenomena: I believe that God gives us all special gifts, and when we don't know exactly how to use them or how to deal with those gifts, we tend to call them ESP. On the other hand, those gifts that we are given can easily be manipulated by evil forces so that we can be "driven crazy" by them or enticed into using them for selfish means. This was my struggle for years. In the past few years, I have learned how to control my senses and filter out the input much more easily, and this has helped me feel like I am using the gifts properly rather than having these "psychic powers" controlling me.

How do you know that, through your rescheduling, you didn't start a long chain of seemingly-unrelated events that led to the accident?  eyepopping

Ok, several times I've had dreams and then sometime later in my life, even years later, they happen. Just stupid things, like picking up a book...but for some reason I recall seeing or experiencing that EXACT same moment. Maybe I should get my head looked at.

Have you been a synaesthetic for as long as you can remember? Just asking out of interest.

As for psychic moments, I have a déja-vu every now and then, but they're ususally faint and not exactly exceptional.

Sometimes something happens and I get a very strong feeling that I'm already aware of it. Deja Vu. The time that this had the greatest impact must be more than 30 years ago and I'd gone to Manchester Airport in the evening with my parents. It had been foggy in London and amongst other aircraft there was a Concorde (diverted) and a Swissair B747 (to pick up pax from all the cancelled DC9 flights into LHR).

Anyway I was walking across the top of the multi storey car park and suddenly it was as if I was seeing it all again. I came to a dead stop wondering what the hell was happening. Really weird. I'd never been there at night before, or any airport car park so it's not as if I was remembering another visit.

Also, all the airport staff were excited because Tony Curtis was one of the Concorde passengers. We saw him in a big limo leaving the car park at the same time as us.
