Anyone Still SouthPark Fans?

Sat Jul 16, 2005 1:35 pm

Question's pretty self-explanatory:

http://animatedtv.about.com/library/graphics/sp802_Awesome-O_2.jpg

...this show seems to have followed the (rather common as of late) adult-cartoon evolution of moving from slapstick-- i.e., "OMG, they killed Kenny"-- in its first few episodes, to social-commentary (akin to Family Guy) in its latter.

Some say it's star has already set... particularly with such antics as a Paris Hilton-ripping episode:

Well, I've never been a huge South Park fan but I must admit that it's an excellent show that gives me really some good laughs.

I still think it's very different from Family Guy, more like Simpson's style but with a more rude tone. Since Mtv shows it in Mexico, it's more popular than ever. Though I must admit that in the US is not what it used to be.

Concordeboy: the pictures are hilarious. I just can't stop laughing. The episode of A.W.E.S.O.M.E is really a must lol!!

I always enjoyed SP, but not enough to actually plan my day/night around it. I wish they had fewer episodes but polished them up a bit. Just my opinion.

I love SP...definitely one of my favorite shows of all time...I think you gain a lot of extra appreciation from the show if you are familiar with Colorado, as they throw in a lot of cracks at Colorado-related things that most people unfamiliar with Colorado might not catch, and seeing those things, it makes the show twice as funny...

"OMG, they killed Kenny"

yeah that used to be like the tag for SP. oh mierda! mataron a kenny!!! hijos de... I always miss that part. What really lost a lot of essence was revealing Kenny, you know, they should've kept it and never show him without his coat. Oh no, do you imagine a weekly "How do yout think Kenny looks like" post at non_av! lol

Quoting SATX (Reply 2):

Definitely. Sometimes I watch chapters that barely make any sense (like the hippies one I saw recently... omg it was so boring)

well, long live SP!

I think South Park is an amazing feat in the psyche of Americanism. That's to say, their humor pokes fun at American society. The creators have the ability to take American culture, and show what is wrong with it in a comical sense. For instance, Team America: World Police, a movie created by the creators of South Park. It's basically the terrorists vs. the Americans. They make fun of the fact that Americans basically no nothing of the Islamic/Arabic world. They show this by making all the arabics saying "Derka Derka Baka Laka Derka, Jihad, Dirka Dirka." What this shows is the American lack of knowledge about the Arabic/Islamic culture. We just see them saying jibberish, and being hot heads, when we fail to realize the true spawn of their fear and anger. We bundle people up into different groups, and for the most part, we give stereotypes to those groups. Team America tends to blow the shit out of EVERYTHING in the movie, with no real cause. Typical of American culture. I remember when 9/11 happened, and people were posting posters in their dorms of the Afghanistan weather reports. 2000 F, with bright explosive skies was the weather outlook, if you will. It pokes fun at the arrogant and ignorant American culture. I think it's comic genius. But, you have to be really intuitive in watching South Park, or the movies Matt and Trey have come up with to realize their TRUE meanings. Anyway, I'm a bi fan.

I love South Park. Unfortunately it's been a while since the last series that was shown here has ended. I'm sure we are a good few seasons behind the USA, and only falling farther behind.  sigh

Southpark might be one of the most intelligent shows on TV. Behind the guise of 10 year olds cussing there is some very interesting political and social commenary. My favorite thing about the show is that nothing is sacred. They'll make fun of anything and everything, including themselves. One of my favorite shows all time was the one just before last year's election. Who would you elect? A giant douche or a turd sandwich? Pretty much sums the 2004 election up in my opinion.

In the episode called "Kyle II" where Kyle's cousin Kyle comes out to visit, Cartman mentioned a part where they went all around Denver and one of the towns they mentioned is about 10 minutes from my house. I was in my dorm room and when I saw it I turned to my roommate and I'm like "hehe...I live there."

I love South Park! My fave episodes have to be Woodland Critter Christmas, Cartmanland, and Awesome-o... oh and that episode where they visit the Museum of Tolerance.

Still the best cartoon ever on TV had to be Daria.

I think it made a few seasons, probably no more than 1-2. It was quite funny though, sterotyping highschool cliques like the jocks and what not.

Yea, it was a great show, I think there was like 50 episodes made or something like that...actually saw that it is rerunning late at night on The N (2-3 AM in Colorado when I was out at school)...not sure if it still is though...

What still confuses me is the Braniff Advert that follows South Park (at least when It is shown on SKY1 in the UK)

Surely South Park isn't as old as Braniff...

Anyone got any ideas about that?

Show seemed to have it's highs and lows, for a while. When Matt and Trey were doing "That's My Bush", even they said that SP suffered some. Once "Bush" got cancelled, the SP seemed to get back on track.

Used to be a regular watcher of SP, but between seeing the same episodes a million times, while waiting for new episodes to arrive, and the crappy airing times (saturday or sunday after midnight, if not after 1am or heck, even after 3 am), I have given up on it.
Nevertheless, I still love the catchphrase Big grin .

When new shows do come out, I am amazed at how quickly or should I say timely they are able to parody current pop culture items. The best examples I can think are "The Passion of the Jew" (Stan to Kenny "Dude, this is a snuff film") and how they got it out right in the middle of the "Passion of the Christ" craze, and the Metrosexual "Queer Eye" episodes. I love how they really make Hollywood and pop culture stuff really look stupid like the J. Lo episode, Mel Gibson, Rob Reiner.

On a side, but related note - I saw "Team America" (from the creators of South Park) over the weekend and I still get a chuckle when I recall some scenes (puppet sex!).
Oh how I long for the day when the skies were truly Friendly!

The show's production time is something like 10 days per episode...they were also able to get out an episode spoofing the Terri Schiavo fiasco almost right after it started to wind down following her death...

I just saw the South Park episode where they go to play baseball and everyone wants to lose! Kyle's cousin from BOS or NY is hilarious!!!

He has to be one of the most frustrating slash hilarious character of all. They stereotype that they want to show is sometimes too accurate to something similar to real life.

It's only ever on in the UK on Sky Mix at dead o' clock in the morning so I tend to miss it, but the movie was excellent! I've found myself humming the tune "Blame Canadaaaa!" from time to time. (By the way, I have nothing against Canadians...obviously South Parks creators do though!)
