My French cousine, who sent me this, nearly died laughing when she found it.

I agree QFF, lighten up.

A lot people don't seem to be able to understand that without provocative members, forums would be boring as all hell. I feel sorry for people who can only deal with beige normality.

Sound familiar?

I'm flattered.

And in accordance with such a statement, yes, I did find the "joke" a little beige.

I'm certainly not offended so there is no need to tell me to "lighten up" (must give you all a bit of a power trip to say it though).

I just think if you MUST attack the French (and it has been done once or twice) - at least inject a little wit into it.

You've got a mighty large chip on your shoulder QFF. You don't have to be 'offended' to be told to lighten up. Perhaps we should have said "loosen up" so that whatever was up your ass could be dislodged.

Would you have understood that better? I'm sure I wouldn't be the first person to say that to you.

Talking to you doesn't give me a power-trip. How very highly you must think of yourself to suggest such a thing.

I've said it before, (albeit as a joke previously), and I'll say it again: Loosen up QFF.

No one was attacking France.

Really? How fascinating. Perhaps in the context of this thread you can spell out exactly what I have a chip on my shoulder about?

Quoting Canuckpaxguy (Reply 8):
Perhaps we should have said "loosen up" so that whatever was up your ass could be dislodged.

You are such a clever young man. No doubt you are from the same school of wit and comedy as the author of that hilarious map of France. I am asounded by the originality and complexity of your suggestion.

Quoting Canuckpaxguy (Reply 8):
I'm sure I wouldn't be the first person to say that to you.

Insults and character assassination now is it? My my, what a perverse interest you have in me.

Quoting Canuckpaxguy (Reply 8):
Talking to you doesn't give me a power-trip.

Oh of course not - however, directing me to conform to some communal social behaviour in an overtly maternalistic way; does give you a bit of a power trip. Of that I am quite sure.

Quoting Canuckpaxguy (Reply 8):
I've said it before, (albeit as a joke previously), and I'll say it again: Loosen up QFF.

I have no intention of doing anything as a result of your suggestions. You have taken enough interest in me to quote something I wrote in my profile and then used a myriad of pedestrian taunts in order to make you look like the font of all knowledge! I'm sorry - but I am not at all impressed. While I'm disturbed by certain aspects of your character that have revealed themselves in the course of your unprovoked attack, I remain unmoved.

Ok by me pal. Get upset. Throw a tantrum. Draw conclusions from nowhere.
Go nuts. This is far more entertaining.

For the recond, I acknowledged in my post that my suggestion that you may have something lodged within you was NOT original. I fully noted that I assumed MANY people had said it to you previously.

I retract my comment suggesting that you lighten up. I wouldn't want to "direct you to conform in a maternalistic way".

You think that a methodical break down of your arguments is tantamount to throwing a tantrum?

Fine, draw a convenient conclusion, don't take me on the issues - that would involve a little skill and a little understanding. Just go into an hysterical fit of name-calling and then feign innocence - you're very talented in this regard.

Quoting Canuckpaxguy (Reply 13):
Do you what you like Son.

At the risk of sounding patronising - I cannot help but be amused by all this as well. You come out with this vile insult and then suggest that I'm the one who is being unreasonable. You were extremely rude to me - and I don't appreciate that at all. I made a comment about how I didn't think a joke was very clever and you launch into a personal attack.

I see exactly what you're doing - you cannot pull the wool over my eyes.

Dude, you're the only one keeping this going. Perhaps a time out for a little perspective might not be such a bad idea. Re-read your posts, man. You're the one raising the temperature up another notch each time. Nobody is bashing France. The map came to a.net by way of France, so ease up a bit. At this point, your increasingly aggitated posts are starting to become more amusing than the original map.
Look, it's been swell, but the swelling's gone down.

I'm going to regret this but....

When I said, "go ahead, throw a tantrum" it was in reference to your refusal in a previous post to take my 'maternalistic advice to adhere to the norms of society' and lighten-up. I was not suggesting that your previous comments were tantrums...you were.

Qantas, let me address some of your points, as we have clearly had some communication break-down, and it's important to straighten this out.

I've drawn no conclusions.
I did NOT suggest you were being unreasonable.
There is no power-trip.
Nobody's pulled any "wool over your eyes".
The only name I called you was "son" (re: my maternalistic directions).
I didn't take you on the issues because there are no issues this thread.

Jasepl posted a comic. You got upset. Jase suggested you lighten up because it was merely a joke. I agreed with him, and quoted something you had in your profile. There was nothing perverse or insulting intended until after your reply.

Quoting QANTASforever (Reply 16):
I made a comment about how I didn't think a joke was very clever

You did not say in your first message that you didn't find the joke funny. You wrote a flippant and rather insulting comment aimed towards a friend of mine. (Scroll up if need be.) I'm sure you can appreciate how that got my guard up.

I don't care if you support France or not. I really don't care if you found the joke funny or not. But if you seek "haute-humeur", I'm sure we can all agree that you will not find it here at a.net.

You insulted me quite blatantly in your posts, but I am prepared to let that slide, because while you insulted my intelligence, I'm not sure you understood any of the insults I directed towards you since you didn't address any of them...so let's call it even.

Perhaps if I type my comments more slowly next time, it will help you understand better.

Glad we cleared this all up.

God Save the Queen!

This is my final word on this matter. If you decide to reply, make it a good one!

No, I said it wasn't very witty and that it was unfunny. I wouldn't call that being upset.

I did get upset when you made a number of vulgar remarks about me - and I don't mind admitting that.

Quoting Canuckpaxguy (Reply 19):

Um - excuse me? lol

If you mean Jase - not once have I made a comment in criticism of him. Seriously - if that is what you have perceived then I can only deduce that you've perceived incorrectly. I honestly have no idea what you're talking about. Unless you mean 787?

Quoting Canuckpaxguy (Reply 19):

I beg to differ.  Wink

Quoting Canuckpaxguy (Reply 19):

And with one foul swoop you lessen the impact your previous comments would have had.

I haven't called you stupid, don't do it to me.

Look, I'm a reasonable guy - and I like to get things cleared up. You seem like a reasonable guy as well. I don't enjoy "heated discussions" (sometimes) - and I believe that we are both on completely different wavelengths. I'm not saying either of us are wrong, just that we are talking about completely different things.

Quoting Canuckpaxguy (Reply 19):

It is every Englshmans duty to slag of the French at every opportunity and the feelings mutual, just listen to Chirac for five minutes, he can't resist having a dig at us. So heres my effort, found this on another site, made me chuckle.

TERROR ALERT IN FRANCE

Paris, July 22, 2005- AP and UPI reported that the French government
has raised its terror alert level from RUN to HIDE on their four level
danger scale. The two higher French danger levels are Surrender and
Collaborate.
The rise was precipitated by a fire yesterday which destroyed France's
white flag factory, effectively paralyzing their military according to
informed sources.

In keeping with the theme of the map, there is actually a town on the French island of Reunion called Le Tampon, although I'm sure it doesn't mean the same thing in French. When I pointed the English meaning out to a French speaking inhabitant of Reunion, he found this quite amusing.

Okay, presumably a map of France with superimposed lines going into Germany. I just don't get it. Is this a version of "Wrong Way Corrigan"?

Those superimposed lines are the routes German armies took while attacking france. The "motorway-numbers" indicate the year of the offensive and the roads are named after the German commander (Guderian Panzer By-pass, Bismarck Hwy etc).

The city names have also been modified in case you had not noticed.

I kid, I kid, (I prefered GMan94's message, that was hilarious), it actually means the same thing in french, and whenever I go back there and watch the local news and the name of this town is brought up, I have to take a deep breath and concentrate as much as possible in order to not burst into laughter. rotfl

Apparently though nobody is allowed to say that something isn't funny

At least not the way you ridiculously did it. You must really enjoy making yourself look foolish.

Quoting QANTASforever (Reply 3):
Yeah - nothing wittier than bashing the French.

Takes a lot of comedic talent.

QFF

Quoting QANTASforever (Reply 6):
I'm flattered.

And in accordance with such a statement, yes, I did find the "joke" a little beige.

I'm certainly not offended so there is no need to tell me to "lighten up" (must give you all a bit of a power trip to say it though).

I just think if you MUST attack the French (and it has been done once or twice) - at least inject a little wit into it.

QFF

Quoting QANTASforever (Reply 11):

QFF

Quoting QANTASforever (Reply 18):
Wait up wait up.

I actualy missed this before.

Is that what you thought this was? Me defending France??

HA!

Now I understand what that whole "chip on shoulder" thing was about. MAN did you read that wrong.

QFF

Quoting QANTASforever (Reply 20):
I want you to know that I am seriously impressed by that.

Quoting Canuckpaxguy (Reply 19):
Jasepl posted a comic. You got upset.

No, I said it wasn't very witty and that it was unfunny. I wouldn't call that being upset.

I did get upset when you made a number of vulgar remarks about me - and I don't mind admitting that.

Quoting Canuckpaxguy (Reply 19):
You wrote a flippant and rather insulting comment aimed towards a friend of mine. (Scroll up if need be.)

I'm sure we can all agree that you will not find it here at a.net.

I beg to differ.

Quoting QANTASforever (Reply 20):
And with one foul swoop you lessen the impact your previous comments would have had.

I haven't called you stupid, don't do it to me.

Look, I'm a reasonable guy - and I like to get things cleared up. You seem like a reasonable guy as well. I don't enjoy "heated discussions" (sometimes) - and I believe that we are both on completely different wavelengths. I'm not saying either of us are wrong, just that we are talking about completely different things.

Quoting Canuckpaxguy (Reply 19):
This is my final word on this matter. If you decide to reply, make it a good one!

You say that we have had a communications breakdown, you try to fix it - and then say that you aren't going to respond anymore?

I lend my time to reply to you - I ask that you extend me (within reason, of course) the same curtsey.

QFF

Quoting QANTASforever (Reply 41):
That's Airliners.net spell check for you.

Quoting Jaspike (Reply 22):
Yet another thread I opened expecting to have a laugh, but then QANTASforever has wrecked it again.

I'm not stopping you having a laugh. Apparently though nobody is allowed to say that something isn't funny. Bodes well for the future of freedom of expression, doesn't it?

You're all hypocrites anyway, and you know it.

Jaspike, if you have a problem with me - then talk to me. I would extend you the same courtesy (in fact, I'm just about to).

QFF

Quoting QANTASforever (Reply 43):
I suppose it was a generic "all", rife with exceptions.

QFF

Quoting QANTASforever (Reply 16):

Quoting 787 (Reply 14):
This response is about as funny as the map. Really now, I think you have embarrassed yourself enough here.

An example of the pot calling the kettle black if ever I saw one.

787 - you're a joke.

QFF

All of this over you not thinking this map was funny???????? WOW! hypnotized  You have issuses.

Not that I do, but if I did - at least I have you to learn from. You are unquestionably an expert.

As for my posts - the reason why I do this is because I respect people enough to address them completely and directly when they have some sort of an issue with me. You don't extend the same courtesy. That's really not very nice of you.  Wink

Quoting 787 (Reply 47):

The fact that my replies were required in accordance with my policy doesn't reflect too well on others, does it? I join with you in a joint expression of incredulity.
