Favorite SNL Skits

Thu Aug 25, 2005 7:33 am

Does anyone have any favorite Saturday Night Live skits? Here are mine, in this order:

1) 'The Sinatra Group' (Phil Hartman)
2) 'Bill Clinton at McDonalds' (Phil Hartman)
3) Janet Reno's Dance Party (Will Ferell)

Plus many others....

I'll admit to being "old school," although Hartman, Dana Carvey, Chris Farley and Eddie Murphy certainly had their moments.

Dan Akroyd as Julia Child, the French Chef, cutting his finger off...

Jimmy's buzzing off, with Belushi and Elliot Gould (how come there's honey on your sheets?)...

Akroyd again as the "Bass-o-Matic" guy...

Belushi as Joe Cocker...

It goes on and on.

Worst: anything, absolutely ANYTHING with Jon Lovitz. Complete waste of space on this planet.

Debbie Downer at Disneyland. They broke up throughout the skit and barely made it through.

Gilda Rander as Emily Litella!

"What is all this fuss I hear about the Supreme Court decision on a "Deaf" penalty. It's terrible! Deaf people have enough problems as it is" When the on-air reporter interrupted to point out her error (Death vs. deaf), she would crinkle her nose, usually say, "Oh, that's very different...", and then humbly say to the audience "Never Mind!"

Does anyone have any favorite Saturday Night Live skits? Here are mine, in this order:

1) 'The Sinatra Group' (Phil Hartman)

The Sinatra Group is my all-time favorite skit from SNL, here's a transcript:

http://snltranscripts.jt.org/90/90ksinatra.phtml

My second favorite skit is "Dr. Frankenstein's Monster" from the same episode. Phil Hartman plays the monster while Sting plays Dr. Frakenstein in a spoof of "My Fair Lady". Sorry, I couldn't find a transcript for this but, basically, Dr. Frankenstein tries to teach his monster proper elocution with hilarious results. RAIN, SPAIN, BUNNY BRAIN!

The third on my list is Carl Sagan's "The Global Warming Christmas Special":

http://snltranscripts.jt.org/90/90hglobal.phtml

I remember seeing it live 15 years ago and I laughed my ass off. Only saw it that one time.

Cheers,
Jeff

P.S. An honorable mention goes out to "The Dark Side with Nat X" featuring Chris Rock.

My favorite was the John Belushi b&w mini-film where he was an elderly man visiting the graves of his SNL comrades, and dancing in the cemetery. Perhaps it wasn't the funniest, but it is the most poignant that I recall.

"JANE YOU IGNORANT SLUT!" - What a great line!

My favourite skits are SHWETTY BALLS (with Alec Balwin) and RACIST INFOMERCIAL with Heather Locklear. The first time I saw those I literally had tears rolling down my cheeks with laughter.

My all time favorite skit is the one with Dana Carvey as Tom Brokaw doing prerecorded Gerald Ford death announcements...this was when he was the guest host circa 1996 or so...here are the many deaths of Gerald Ford, which just crack me up as they get more and more asinine...

- "Gerald Ford dead today at the age of 83."
- "Gerald Ford dead today, at age 84."
- "Gerald Ford shot dead today, at age 83."
- "Gerald Ford shot dead today, at the senseless age of 83."
- "Gerald Ford shot senselessly dead, at the age of 83."
- "Gerald Ford dead today, after jupming out of an office building, senselessly."
- "Gerald Ford dead today, from an overdose of crack cocaine."
- "Stunning news from Michigan, as former President Gerald Ford was chopped into little bits by the propeller of a commuter plane."
- "Tragedy today, as former President Gerald Ford was eaten by wolves. He was delicious."
- "A fireball destroyed France today, and Gerald Ford is dead."
- "Stunning news from Yorba Linda today, as Richard Nixon's corpse climbed out of his grave and strangled Gerald Ford to death." (my personal favorite!)
- "Gerald Ford was mauled senselessly by a circus lion in a convenience store."
- "Hola bambe, hungala dimba Gerald Ford.. *click* *click* *click* *click* ..hola bambe, allah bumba bubba hulla humba hey." (theme being if Zimbabwe took over America)
- "Hola bambe, hungala dimba Gerald Ford.. *click* *click* ..hola bambe.." (sadder version of Zimbabwe thing above)

1. "Jane, you ignorant slut!"

2. Mr. Robinson's neighborhood.

3. The coneheads

4. Dan Akroyd's "commercials"

Honorable mention, somewhat in bad taste, but funny nonetheless - after actress Claudine Longet murdered her boyfriend, downhill skier Spider Sabich, they ran a "wide world of sports" type of clip with nothing but skiers wiping out on a downhill, and either Belushi or Akroyd offering commentary - "wow, it looks like she got another one..."

The network had to issue an apology after it was shown, and it was never repeated in any of the network repeats or the "best of" collections.

Church Lady with Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker (Phil Hartman and Jan Hooks, complete with the fake running mascara). "I rebuke you demonic raisins!"

Pete Schweddy (Alec Baldwin) with his Schweddy Balls and Schweddy Weiners on the "Delicious Dish on NPR". In fact, Alec Baldwin has a few good ones including "Canteen Boy" and the soap opera actor playing a doctor who couldn't pronounce the names of the diseases or conditions correctly.

Oldie, but a classic - Carrie Fisher in "Beach Blanket Bimbo from Outer Space" (A spoof of the old beach party movies). Carrie Fisher dressed up as Princess Leia lands in the old beach party movie with Frankie and Annette (Gilda Radner as Annette), complete with a cameo visit by Vincent Price (Dan Ackroyd?).

Classic SNL sketches/quotes:

Early Days:

The Wild and Crazy Guys (Akroyd and Steve Martin)
The Samurai Chef
The Cheesborger skit
"Jane you ignorant slut!"
Belushi dancing on the other cast members graves
"The Thing that wouldn't leave" (Belushi, Murray and Curtin IIRC)
"I'm Chevy Chase. And you're not".

Early '80's:

Eddie Murphy as Gumby
Eddie Murphy in the death of Buckwheat
Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood
Eddie Murphy and Stevie Wonder
Joe Piscopo as Frank Sinatra
Eddie Murphy as an inmate author ("Kill my landlord. C-I-L-L kill")
Eddie Murphy as a white guy

Late '80's through current

Dana Carvey's Bush
Wayne's World
Farley and Patrick Swayze auditioning for the Chippendales
Farley as the motivational speaker
Adam Sandler as Opera Man and Cajun Man
"Sprockets"
The Church Lady
The unfrozen caveman lawyer
"I need more cowbell"
The Roxbury guys

There's more but that's just off the top of my head...
