RE: A.netter's Religious Affiliation?

Thu Sep 08, 2005 4:58 pm

Sunni Muslim, almost non-practicing. I was raised in an almost non-religious environment.

Over the years, I have gradually developed to become and agnostic and I am still an agnostic today. I don't think my position will change, at least I don't see it changing...

Having said all that, I am completely secular. I switch back and forth between secular humanism and secular nationalism. I guess I am a little bit of both. Eventually I will probably settle for one of them. As a result of my secular beliefs, I am staunchly against politicizing religion and strongly believe in separation of religion and state.

Regards

Raised (loosely) Protestant, went to a COE school, and Sunday school. The brainwashing never took with me. I look back to the songs we used to sing and they seem very, very sinister now. What sane person teaches young children that god drowns everybody save two people for being sinful? Good grief.

I'm an Atheist, I always have been. I respect the viewpoints of others, but if they begin to evangelize, the gloves come off - fairs fair and all that.

Roman Catholic by birth. Lost faith for a while, but am a Christian believer now, i don't care about denominations, although I go to Catholic church on all Sundays. I don't believe in confession to the priest and some of the catholic rules. I believe in Sin and the Ten commandments.

I'm a Muslim.and proud of it!

Even though I was a born and practicing Muslim..I dabbled (didn't convert) into satanism  devil   Wow! for a while (yah..its true)....lots of messed up things happened to me then..and I'm glad I didn't stray too far away from Islam.

I practice (to a certain extent)..ie I do my 5x/daily prayers, don't eat pork or drink alcohol (well..no drinking in the past 10 years!!), I only eat "halaal" meats and I fast during the month of Ramadan...

I learn and study Quran, hadith, fiqh, etc.

I always attend Friday services

I try not to yell or have a vulgar mouth, etc.

I think its made me into a better person.. yes

I'm not religious; however, I believe that people have the right to believe in whatever they want, so long as it is legal.

Religion does, I believe, cause many avoidable problems, such as religious intolerance and consequencial violence, death and destruction; narrow-mindedness; short-sightedness; segregation; unhappinness; and so forth.

I was raised non-reiligious. I am now a United Methodist and love it. I also visit Roman Catholic Churches from time to time.

In reference to those who have discussed Mormons in this threat, Their is tons of them out here in Phoenix, Arizona. Someone told me the Mormon Temple in Mesa is the 2nd largest Mormon Temple in the U.S. Can anyone verify this? I'm gonna head over to a Mormon Temple sometime this week to pick up the Book of Mormon to learn more about them.

That's not really what they believe, they just choose to send missionaries anyway. They believe that pretty much everyone is going to some sort of heaven, just that mormons are the only ones that reach the top level. However, when you die, they'll pretty much make you a mormon anyway.

Yet all surround religion.   But for religion, you would not get fanatically religious people, and thus you would not get the aforementioned consequences. Sure, they exist in other spheres, but also because of religion.

I agree with you.

Religion is something very private for me. I believe that is the way it should be, because, after all, we're all individuals. At the moments one begins to promote his own religious beliefs is the moment when a believer becomes nothing much but a promoter (like those annoying commercial phone calls and SMS).

Unfortunately, too many people, of all kinds of confessions, believe differently trying to take the job of "ultimate judge" deciding who's right and who's wrong. While real religious challenges are avoided on all sides of the world, it sometimes seems so easy to put a finger of blame or ridicul everything and anyone. Also, one of the most important things in my own religious beliefs is my attitude towards other people and ability to accept and respect them even when I don't agree with it.

Standing there, at the gates of heaven, wondering what the hell you're doing there, and St. Peter goes: "Yeah, you WERE schedueled for reincharnation as the Prince of Monaco, but then these mormons made a mormon out of you just after you died, so now your here. And, BTW, you're not allowed to drink any milk anymore..."

By choice? Damn, I wish my cousins could say that. My uncle hasn't seen his two sons since their mother whisked them off to some Bahai community somewhere in UK like 10 years ago, and neither have I. Authorities won't lift a finger, because the people of this 'community' start screaming "bloody murder and religious persecution" every time my uncle has tried to do something about it.

half atheist, half agnostic.
I don't believe in god, never have and never will.
But at the same time I know that there are a lot of unexplained things in the world. The big bang being just one of them. So its not so much that I think that there ''could'' be a god...just more that there are a lot of big unanswered questions out there.
