A great way to start the Grand Slam

Mmmm. That might come back and bite you.

Good to see that you keep this habit of peaking between World Cups though.  Wink

Let's just hope that doesn't happen in the ruck.  Smile

I guess we're peaking for the entire four years rather than in between.  Smile

Wales were missing half a dozen key players. It goes to show that where they have a problem is in terms of the depth of their squad. The first XV are a decent outfit, but if they lose one or two they have problems.

Not that that takes anything away from the All Blacks, who are a super side right now.

Ahhhhhhhhh...

Ahhhhhhh......

Ahhhhhhh....

Arghhhhh....

Ahhhhhhhhhh...

I am shocked, upset, annoyed and so many other things too. Well done to New Zealand, they outclassed Wales completely. However, the issue on the depth of the squad.

To lose 7 players is a huge loss in Rugby terms. It is almost half of the team. The problem increases when you see that the players lost are in key positions. For example, Scrum Half, Prop, Flanker and Centre's.

I believe that this NZ team will wipe the floor with the rest of the home nations and have an excellent chance of winning the World Cup in France, 2007.

I for one hope that Wales can re-build and show that they are still the best team in the Northern Hemisphere.

Regards,
Chris

We have suffered in past World Cup's due to poor planning and preparations.

In 2003, it was rather haphazard and we were the best side on paper. In reality our players were very inexperienced compared to Australia in the semi final and did not fight back when they needed to. We beat them in the Bledisloe Cup but took the game for granted.

They didn't identify the Australian game plan and ended up paying dearly for it.

This team is very different as the team has moulded together quite well. The players at this current point in time are experienced enough with most of them around the 25-30 tests mark. By the time the next World Cup comes around most of them should have about 40-45 tests under belt.

Also the core players of the team would have been playing together for the four years together which would help them maintain team cohesion.

Cheers

I agree, they are looking like our best chance for a while. Zeekiel is right though. Our world cup preparation has been poor historically. However I think the following factors are evident, and probably will be in two years time:

All Blacks have a lot of depth. Can put together two quality teams at the moment. The "A" side is probably playing the best rugby of any team for 10 years.

Australia have a forward pack that resembles a cluster of marshmallows. It's going to take a while, (ie more than 2 years), to develop their way out of this situation.

England look like an amateur side now. They seem so far from when they won the world cup.

I think the risks are SAF and FRA. In particular France. I guess we will hope for the famous french inconsistency when it comes to stringing together 3 or 4 big wins.

I'm not getting my hopes up to high yet, but it is looking better!

I've always found this attitude in New Zealand fascinating. Always feeling they're the best, regardless of the facts. Right now, you definitely are, but in 2003? No way. England were. They'd beaten everyone home and away over the previous two years, and the only game they'd lost in that time was when they sent a second string to France for a World Cup warm up.

I guess the same could be said in 99 before the painful french game. Hopefully we'll get it right in 2007.
