Wow, and to think Pepino Principe himself thinks she's "the fastest finger on the remote keyboard!"

Although the keyboard players in The Mars Volta and Dream Theater spring to mind as well, specifically the piano intro in Dream Theater's "One Last Time."

Good to see she's a purist, and not affected by the glamour side of "music." Yeah sure

Need criteria to measure "the best".

Personally...I enjoy the hell out of George Duke.

OK different perspective. I am currently watching a special Elton John concert on TV called The Red Piano. While I am not sure I would rate him the best, he has to be in the top five.

I'll bet Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, Mozart, and Rachmaninoff would beg to differ. But if we must confine it to living people (hell, no one else deigned to actually adress Mark's thread topic), no pianist who butchers both the Beatles and the Who deserves to be in any top five.

Butch Taylor

He's basically the 6th member of Dave Matthews Band. He's on all their CD's and tours with them to every show.

If you havent heard any of his stuff, give it a try. He's pretty damn good.

In no particular order (and this really shows my ecclectic musical tastes):

Keith Emerson
Rick Wakeman
Rob Mullins
Frank Mills

Actually, I'm surprised that our American friends haven't named one of the finest keyboard players ever. He was born in North Carolina in 1952. He has played for Presidents, Royalty, Heads of State and at venues worldwide.

I've heard only a few offerings form a couple of the the folks you list, and while I cannot sit here and type "they're the greatest!" I do not dislike classical music at all, but rearely listen to it. I posted my favorite when I first saw the thread, and then posted a second opinion after watching the special last night.

Keith Emerson?!?
The man who shat upon our collective consciousness the single most wretched piece of musical turd ever created??!!??
How can anyone who loves music listen to the "Lucky Man" synthesizer circle jerk and not throw up in your mouth a little bit?
It's actually one of the most humorous comedy bits played on the radio once you get upwind of the stink and look at it from a "Spinal Tap" perspective.
Just God-awful!!
Shame on you Keith Emerson!

A couple I thought of............

Bruce Hornsby (from Bruce Hornsby and the Range),

and there was a band in the late 80/early 90s from Scandanavia called One 2 Many. They had a single out called 'Downtown' (never charted in the UK) which has the most fantastic keyboard intro and keyboard instrumental break in the middle. Whoever played that also gets my vote  Smile
