I'm sufficiently old that my toys are now collectors' items, and I see toys identical to mine in antique stores!! (Remember Fisher Price's Little People, Matchbox cars, Airfix model kits, Disney story cassettes and books, Curious George, etc?) My idol was Curious George when I was a kid; now I see very little of him nowadays! Luckily, Snoopy (another favourite of mine) is still popular!

Another sign of old age: I see cultural history repeating itself now--in the wave of 60s and 70s vintage items that are sweeping the Western world! I see many of the same types of clothes now in retro/vintage stores that I wore when I was a kid!

I already need reading glasses for the one eye I have left. (I've used them for years now since I was in college!).

Yes, today's music really sucks for me too! At home in the USA, I still have all our family's old LP records going way back to the 70s! On my car radio at home (in America), I listen to a 60s/70s oldies radio station as well as NPR.

Another sign of old age for me: I archive everything from my lifetime (even the old craniofacial surgical devices, hearing aids, and others I used since my infancy!) and everything I have actually has a historical background for my life (as well as my family life). This includes many of my old toys, my musical instruments, and everything else.

Needless to say, I've been greying steadily more ever since age 21. When I get a haircut now, it rains silvery white hair!

My fellow students (and even some of my professors) at King's College London
and in my hall of residence (nearly everyone there) seem REALLY YOUNG!!
Even my pastors at church at home and in the UK seem young, too.

When you struggle to bicycle across London to class every day, and see YOUNGER cyclists breezing right past you on crowded London streets, and you are breathless once you arrive at King's College London, you know you're not as young as you once were.

Your younger sister (only 5 years your junior) calls you an "old man", and you are an uncle 15 times over! (Yes, there are 15 grandchildren in my large family, and I have been an uncle since 7).

Another sign of old age: You have had a very eventful life, having experienced enough challenges in life for anyone twice as old.

And yes, I reminisce a lot!

Guess how old I am! "Only" 30 (soon to be 31 on 25 April)!

you know you're getting old when:

1. You don't have to prove yourself anymore, either way, at your job.
2. Don't waste time chasing women; either you've found one or they're chasing you...
3. Stay at home on Saturday nights happily trolling a.net
4. You appreciate the Work Ethic - especially in others..
5. When the waitress you're flirting with calls you 'Sir'

and finally,

When your posts on a.net go on and on and on.....

Forgot to add these!

  • You remember/still call BWI Friendship Airport!
  • Still call the Atlantic City Hilton Golden Nugget!
  • Remember when Family Affair, Andy Griffith, Happy Days, Mr. Ed, Dark
    Shadows and Bewitched
to name a few were prime time first run shows!
  • For my fellow Marylanders and this can probably be applied to other TV markets: When CBS was Channel 2, ABC was Channel 13 and of course channel 11 was and still is NBC! I've programmed Cold Case and other hot CBS TV shows on channel 2! To me, CBS and channel 2 go together like Eastern Airlines L-1011's, Electras and Connies!

More signs that I'm getting older...

1) I still call my local airport FWA "Baer Field"--that is its older, more familiar name the airport has been known by for most of its life from the 1940s until 1991, when it was changed to Fort Wayne International. I still miss the pre-1996 (pre-expansion) terminal, which had much more glass on the airside for ramp boarding, and which served 727s, DC-9s, and MD-80/90s.

2) Compared to the toys of my long-ago childhood, I think today's "toys" lack the creativity and imagination the older toys have (modern toys are too tied into the media and computers). I miss Brix Blox, generic Legos, FP Little People, etc. Curious George and Snoopy were my twin idols throughout childhood; forget today's cartoon characters!

3) Retro and vintage bicycles are more nostalgic to me than today's bikes! (Remember the Schwinn Tornado?)

4) I find myself longing for a good old-fashioned station wagon!

5) Best Western, with its old yellow crown logo, is the most memorable roadside motel chain to me--my many childhood road trips to St. Louis, MO, from Fort Wayne, IN, with Dad, always involved an overnight stop at a Best Western motel in Illinois. Thus, roadside motels are quite nostalgic.

6) The last time I played a video game, it was an Atari 2600 with PacMan, Missile Command, as well as the older Odyssey2 game system (remember either of those?)

7) The best TV I remember was the original Star Trek, The Waltons, Little House on the Prairie, the original Sesame Street, Mister Rogers, and a slew of old sci-fi 1950s movies (especially the 1953 War of the Worlds) and Battlestar Galactica (TOS).

8) The last time I was at JFK airport, TWA had a bustling hub at T5 and T6; I took my first overseas trip on their ancient 747 and that trip also was the last time I flew on a DC-9!
