My username comes from my last name (Smith) and reflects my dream private airline (Smith Airways) and my favourite plane (747). Thus I combined these words into SmithAir747.

Here's my 1:100 scale Smith Airways 747--my namesake! By the way, I built and custom-painted it myself!

As I stated earlier, I'm mostly more of an Airbus person because I really admire the technological leaps they've taken. When the A320 came out in 1988, it was positively space-age. That said, over the years I've mellowed out and now I don't have a preference at all.

Air Canada is on my blacklist largely because Canadian was so dear to my heart. While I can't hold AC responsible for CP's financial troubles, I can judge them by what they've done since. YVR has been marginalized, and they don't seem to take it very seriously. I consider YVR to be the LAX of Canada, and I find AC's "back-burner" attitude unacceptable.

Last year I toured the Boeing factory and part of that involved riding in the bus around the delivery area. There was a brand new EVA Air 777-300 on the ramp, and I have to say I've never seen such an impressive airliner in person as that one. And I've stood directly underneath 747s, just to put that into perspective. Even with all the lingering animosity I have toward AC, I still respect them as Canada's only standing legacy carrier. From the bottom of my heart I still want to see them do well, and I really can't wait to see the new T7s they have on order.

Oh yeah, and one more thing...  biggrin 
Better to be nouveau than never to have been riche at all.

It was a charity thing and they were getting about a quid each to wash bikes LOL I thought it was good value for money, they did a good job too!

I have posted it before--on this site (way back in the past in Av Hobby) and on two other sites (devoted to model airliners)--DAC and Wings900.

I spent the whole summer of 2002 building and painting it. It was a Doyusha 1:100 Boeing 747-100 kit. Instead of using the decals in the kit, I got creative and did my own livery--totally by hand, using nothing but Testors model paints, brushes, and paint markers. It took a long time to do the intricate Irish livery on the tail as well as the Irish calligraphy for the titles on the fuselage. The green I used was Testors' metallic jade green flake paint, for a metallic green finish. Actually, it also gave the plane a nice green marbleized finish--reminiscent of Irish Connemara marble!

Now I have the Revell 1:144 Airbus A380 kit--and have been building and painting it into a similar livery design! It's at home now in the USA while I'm here studying in London, so it has to wait until I get home for the summer (a short, rare holiday at home now for me).

I'm glad you enjoyed it!
