I have a good one where I was a bit early. I had a dentist appointment once, can't really remember the date, but let's say it was June 8th, at... 3PM.
So I got to the waiting room at 3PM, and waited. Patients come and go, and after 30 minutes of waiting without being called up, I decided to check the message I received from the dentist to see that I had the time right. And it said 3PM allright.
I was just about to go ask the desk why it was taking so long, when I noticed a tiny detail in the message;
It said July...

My wife and I got great tickets to see one of our favorite comedians. We had a table for eight. I invited one friend and his wife via email. They accepted and everything was set we would all meet at the show. When the show was about to begin and my friend & his wife had not arrived so I phoned him. He said, "Your email said March 11th, well it was the 11th but we were in November." I guess CHECK SPELLING can't fix everything.

I had tickets to see Brazil play but due to works on the line, the train was so late I missed the game. 
I'm sure there are many more (actually, I did miss an exam once because my alarm had power failure in the night) that I can't think of just now.
This one time, my girlfriend was late with her period... but it was a false alarm!

Missed a flight from DAL-MAF once way back when before I could drive. Last time I was late for something. Am renowned for being early to everything and having no tolerance for people not being punctual.

Had signed up for scuba lessons as a gift from Mom for my 16th birthday.
On the very first day of classroom instruction, I showed up to the dive shop at the time I was notified that it would begin. The door was locked, the lights were off in the showroom, and no one had answered to my knocking.
I called the next day, only to find out that I was actually an hour late, and the class had already begun in the back room (and too far away to hear me knocking on the front door).
Since I had missed the entire first lesson (including orientation), they said it would probably not be a good idea to try to "catch up" within that particular course period, but to re-sign up for the next (and take a refund for this course). I didn't have any problem with that, seeing as how scuba diving can be extremely dangerous if you don't know full well what you're doing, and I wasn't about to tempt fate.
Unfortunately, that was almost eight years ago, and I still haven't signed up nor had the time to complete a new course.
Oh, and the recent shoulder dislocation won't help the cause either...

When I was in college and smoked a bit too much the night before an exam and slept right the way through it, waking up at about noon; an hour after the exam ended. That was pretty stupid.
And then once when I was flying back to England I forgot the +1 day rule and was a day late for a business meeting. Idiot.

Concur 100%. I would rather turn up thirty minutes early and sit in my car listening to the radio and/or reading the newspaper until the time of the appointment, than turn up two minutes late.

Slept through a final exam for Public Speaking class. My grade went from an A to a D.
I was late for my last job just about every day, but on purpose. My shift was from 6 AM to 2:30 PM. I showed up most days around 9-10. It was Aircraft Detailing, so no one really ever noticed. I eventually quit.

I've never been late for anything but I have been early.
It was the end of semester 1 this year and I had band practice at 12:45pm. I was in junior band. Senior band had practice an hour earlier than we did. I was going by what time my watch said. It was very cold out. So I left my house at what I thought was 12:15 but was actually 11:15. I later discovered that my watch was in the wrong time zone. Boy was I pissed off.

Missed two flights out of AUS. One connecting in DFW to LGW and the other was ORD to LHR.

I know! It's not my usual self, it was just that particular company.
I was on line service for two months prior, was excellent and loved it. They asked me to take the position of detailer as a "temporary" fix and as a favor. Naive, I agreed. Six months later, I was begging to go back to lineservice, they didn't care and stopped noticing me. So, fine. I didn't need them. I did it on my own terms for a while, then quit. No biggie. I really wanted to piss on a job for once in my life, and they really put themselves out there.

Times in preparation for a flight can be quiet confusing, specially if changing time zones.... An example and a little story:
If my flight leaves at 10:00 I have to sign in at the airport at 8:45, thus I have to leave home at 7:45 and have to set the alarm at 6:45. Kind of works that way for me all the time... except when I'm going to bed very late or tired to do that stupid math exercise. (Now I regret missing all those Math classes, hehe).
Recently it was one of those days, got my times all wrong and arrived to the airport a mere 25 minutes before the departure time on a flight I was scheduled to fly. Crew scheduling was crazy trying to reach me on the phone to see where the hell I was. They were already calling the reserve. I found out about my mistake on the way to the airport, drove at Mach .80 parked in the expensive short term lot, ran to the aircraft, did the fastest turnaround ever and took off right on time. I got a letter from crew scheduling though and on top of that had to pay the 36.00 USD of the damn parking.
Never missed a flight as a passenger though.

On some parts of the world it could be.
Mexican Labor laws are way too much on the worker's side. It mandates that the employers must have an internal rule and procedures book regarding topics such as lateness, no shows, sick leave and others. The airline that I fly for adopted the most common form of it and, according to it we are allowed to no show three times in any 30-day period. Any 3 late arrivals on any 30-day period accounts for one no-show.
Though it is very very flexible, that's what it is written in the book. Truth is that very rarely (specially in this kind of job) you will find such a lazy worker. Also, if not legally justified, those absenses from work are not paid and go straight to one's records.

missed a flight once. I got to the airport on time but had left the passport at home. so jumped back in the car and drove home very quickly to get it. got caught doing 120 in a 60 zone just to add to the misery. never made the flight. people were waiting for me in Malawi for a trip into the bush. because of me missing the flight they couldnt wait and i missed out on the trip. I now staple my passport to my forehead when i travel.
the only good thing was that the cop who stopped me for speeding let me off because as a foreigner leaving the country there was no way i would pay the fine before I left so there was no point in writing out the ticket.

A friend of mine overslept one time, the first time she had ever overslept on a work day.
After rushing round, she got to the bus stop to see the bus leaving without her.
The day? July 7th 2005.
The bus? The No. 30 from Marble Arch to Hackney Wick, her route takes her directly through Tavistock Square.
Frightening.

Once when I was younger, a local power station was due to be demolished. I had arranged to go with my friends family to watch it. It was due to happen really early one Sunday morning, around 0700 ish. I got to their house really early, about 0530 and was banging on the door. Eventually someone came to answer about 15 mins later - they were all still in bed. By the time they had faffed about and got ready, then we drove the 3 miles to where it was heppening, we had missed it !!!. If my friends Dad had just driven straight there we would still have made it, but he decided to go a longer way that could have given us a better view point, but due to running late it was all over. That is the one and only time in my life so far that I was in a position to see a demolition and I missed it !!!! Grrrrrrrrrrr.
Usually though I am always about 30 mins late for non important sfuff, but always ontime or early for important stuff. My friends have now realised that if they tell me 30mins before we are due to meet up, then I will be ontime !!!

But you know what, being late has brough me more luck than anything else. Conventional wisdom is that you should always be about 10-15 minutes early for a job interview. If you are earlier, you are looked at as lacking confidence, showing up right on the dot isn't usually considered good either. But being late for the interview completely kills your chances for the job, right? WRONG.
The past two jobs I have got, I was about 1/2 an hour late for. The most recent as the employer was in North Wales and I had completely no idea where I was going...and with my previous employer I mixed up Dixon and Dixie Road near the airport in Toronto. There is an Enterprise Road off Dixon, and another one off Dixie. But they are not connected Oh well, I got the job anyways!
