Now we see the problem of a free press and the internet.
The "responsible" media sources are saying its is "unconfirmed" but the attack is on a border post inside Lebanon and that a Syrian military unit is "close by".

No lies there I think, but words which can be used for inflamatory reasons, which based on this thread, could very well start.

Did this just happen?

Would you have another source or any other additional information on your end confirming how long ago this happened? The press release you quoted surely stated that this happened, but provided very little detail.

Thanks!

I think a whole world is in shock over what is unfolding. I have three younger children, and they are deeply concerned.

I don't think we will see any improvement or stability anytime soon. Secret negotiations likely take place as we speak, and maybe what just happened is a reflection of the fact that these are simply not working out in Israel's favor.

It is very sad to witness this in any regard.

My prayers to all of those who would find themselves in danger. Be safe!

I don't think Israel hit Syria today, but I would not be surprised at all to see the IAF visiting Damascus if Hezbollah continues to launch rockets.

I have another question. It is noted that France has great ties to Lebanon, the Lebanese Ambassidor even mentioned that at the UN yesterday. France and other EU countries are planning to evacuate their citizens from Lebanon, France estimates they have over 17,000 there.

The American's are also looking at doing the same, and they are estimating they have 25,000 to evacuate. If this number is correct, who are these American's and what are they doing there, considering that the French and EU countires are closer to the Lebanese than the Americans, are these all tourist?

There is quite a substantial number of Americans and Europeans living in Lebanon,Egypt and the gulf-countries.
The US Embassy in Cairo is among the biggest US embassy worldwide.
The american University in Beirut has a very good reputation and hence attracts quite many american lecturers and students.
Many of the american tourists are lebanese-americans with two passports.
France has had historic ties to Lebanon and many Lebanese speak french-the second official language in the country. If you live in France, you will encounter many French who visit Lebanon or have relatives there.
Jaques Chirac used to be a personal friend of Raffik Harriri and attended his funeral as one of the few european leaders.

According to Reuters, Israel has not attacked Syria. Yet...

The Israeli army said it had attacked targets only in Lebanese territory. "It's very important to understand that we have only targeted bridges and access points in Lebanon," an army spokeswoman said. "We have not bombed anything in Syria."

A Syrian official also said Israel had not attacked Syria.

Yes, but Hezbollah will hopefully be deterred by the military action occuring. Somebody already posted about Hezbollah being hesitant to launch missiles at TLV out of fear of it becoming an all out war.

So let's talk about the proportionality of the rest of the Arab world's attacks, hatred and attempts to destroy it since 1948? Think that's proportionate.

About time the Israelis drop the hammer bigtime and quit pussyfooting around.

And if you want to talk about proportion, how does that affect the hostage swaps in which the israelis release hundreds of Palestinian prisoners for a handful of Israelis?

Would this be the same israeli proportionality that led to the shelling of a UN base in Qana in 1996, killing 102 civilians?

http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/quana_01_19_03.htm

Would this be the same Israeli proportionality in demanding Lebanon control militias when it couldnt control the pro Israeli militia that led to the massacre of over 1000 Lebanese refugees in 1982, an attack that the Israeli judiciary directly linked to the Israeli government and held the government responsable?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/d...mber/17/newsid_2519000/2519637.stm

Im sorry, but while Israel does have the right to a peaceful existence, calling their actions over the years 'proportional' is utter rubbish.

OIL BOYCOTT 2
Stay tuned...

...This is after viewing the minivan missile massacre before my eyes on TV, I conclude that Israel is driving itself into oblivion... 20 innocent children murdered in cold blood.

On Danish television I heard a Libanese man say, that this could all be ended by one attack on Damascus- And that it should...

But Iran have said, that if Syria is hit, they would join in, now what ever that means is up for interpretation.
