This is scandalous. If I were Bush I would cut off all economic and military aid, and inform them that if we feel the need to conduct strikes against Taliban or Al Qaeda targets inside Pakistan, we will not be asking their permission or informing them beforehand.

The Tribal Areas have their own rules.No Admin of the state has control out there.
It was always believed OBL had huge support out there & its virtually Impossible to capture him out there.Even US troops would struggle.

I agree. Pakistan has not been very reliable as an ally against terrorism. They make some good arrests, but also have been ineffective at controlling the Taliban along their northern border. Now it seems that they are prepared to make peace with them.

Okay so now I get it, its a deal to stop fighting between the pro-Taliban militias and the local authorities. Where the hell is the Osama's pardon offer?? Does anyone realise how much Karzai in Afghanistan has done along the same line to isolate the radical elements? And BTW the US itself has worked along those lines. Here is the media blowing it yet again.
In a nutshell its no big news, Pakistan and US continue their joint Naval exercises that started Monday and this is nothing more than a deal for a few tribes to lay down their arms.

You know, it seems like every time something goes wrong with the war on terror, we get people from the administration saying that this is a predictable part of the big plan, and that if we stick with it things will turn out well in the end.

whatever troops you get into the TribalAreas, they first of all will fail. And second will NOT capture OBL as the man is not there anyway. my belief in "the above" is almost absolute, whenever admittedly NOT having the slightest proof ! But you need to see that A) he is in need of constant medical care for his kidney problems, B) has lots of money, C) knows all of Europe very well , D) most of his "tapes" came to the public through London offices of MidEastern media, E) his "deputy" is a UK educated medical doctor with connections there, F) Paddington/Bayswater/NottingHillGate quarters in London as well as the Montmartre/GareStLazare quarters in Paris having so many people of Arab origin that for him living there is no problem

Yes, by making peace with the Taliban (etc) they simply admitted what was obvious for a long time and that is the the Pakistan government had no chance to win. So that this simply is political wisdom and statesmanship.

Personally I don't believe it was a simple error, they try to twist the facts all the time. As I mentioned above it was very clearly reported that Iran has passed a new law forcing their Jewish population to wear the Star of David. What kind of error could that possibly have been?

the "Star-of-David" law-story was clearly demented by the Iranian government. No such law in Iran is in force. And the Pakistani government has NOT concluded an agreement with Osama BinLaden. Oh yes, and I am not saying this one is more outrageous of the two, but for someone familiar with the area (unlike the media), I instantly knew there was something wrong here. It was 'twisting' rather than complete making up of facts.

Considering the casualties suffered by the Pakistani Army fighting these Taliban fighters in these areas & with the current unrest in Baluchistan.The Govt needed some breathing space to recoup.
