Am I Gonna See The Dodgers Lose The Pennant Tonigh

Sat Sep 16, 2006 7:08 am

The Padres are coming into town for four, and I'm going tonight to see Greg Maddux pitch against David Wells. The Dodgers are still up by 1/2 game, but the Padres have had their number all season. I think this four-game series may determine the division winner. Should be fun, but I'm gettin' nervous...

As long as the Dodger and Padres split the four games, you're still in good shape in both the Western Divison and Wild Card. The West get blasted for being so "weak" yet its a very good chance the Wild Card team will come from the west.

Yeah, we get blasted because the winner of the division never wins that many games (looks like maybe 85 this year) but our record against the other divisions is pretty good. It's just that there are no real patsies in the west...we all beat up on each other...

The only trouble with the wild card is it will probably mean another trip to Shea and the Mets. Although we just split four there, so we can compete...

I hope the Pads win this series... it is essential to our playoff hopes. This sounds like a Dodger-friendly thread, but like Exarmywarrant said, whoever makes it (probably both), will eventually have to face the Mets (there is no way the Mets will be eliminated in the NLDS, St. Louis isn't the team it was last year, and obviously none of the West contenders are even close to the Mets)...

I love the Padres, but I'm not sure how this year's team could do against the Mets in the playoffs... That said, I think the Mets have a good chance of a World Series win this year.

The Padres still have 7 games with the Diamondbacks, and traditionally they don't do well in Phoenix, although they did take two out three last time.

Whew, great game by Maddux. One hitter through nearly seven innings, very nicely done.

I'm in San Diego right now on biz, and am heading up to LA for the game Monday night before flying out from LA the next morning...I'm not even a baseball fan and I can't wait! Should be a fun series.

Well, we game I saw Friday night, but blew the next two...we really need the one tonight, or we may miss the wild card as well as the division title.

One bright spot, the Padres have to go into Pittsburgh, which has to make them nervous right now, as the Pirates just swept the Mets...

Dodgers go into the Pirates series on Tuesday 9/19 at 1/2 game up because the Dodgers just pulled off one of the most stunning come from behind victories I have ever witnessed, which included 4 back to back homeruns which hasn't happened in over 200,000 games!

You've got to be kidding me. I was listening to that game on my way home, and I went ahead and turned it off in the bottom of the ninth because it was just too improbable.

Wow.

See terms for details....

Wow just doesn't describe what happen. Seven pitches 4 home runs in the bottom of the ninth. Never seen or hear anything like it. Will the Pirates and Diamondbacks now decide who will win the west?  eek

I was watching on TV and nearly turned it off myself...

You should have seen all of the fans coming back into the stadium in the ninth inning...

I turned off the TV in the 9th inning after Saito had given up run #9 to the Padres in the top of the 9th. I could not believe the Dodgers came back. I am kicking myself for turning the game off.

(But in my defense, the Dodgers had scored something like 3 runs in the previous 19 innings before last night's game, so the odds of the miracle were not on our side.)

Oh God that was terrible. I was in shock. Grrrh. Oh well you can't win em all. Haha, well they should have won that one. I gotta hand it to the boys in blue, one heck of a game for sure!

Pretty impressive stuff. Funny to see Rudy Seanez was the guy who finally lost it for SD in the 10th. Saw a few of those at Fenway this season.

Nothing like a good pennant race...

Dodgers--Padres Monday must have been incredible! But I'm hoping that both LA and SD start losing so the Phillies can sneak by one of them! But given the history of the Phils I'm not real confident. A lifetime of baseball frustration is the lot of a Phillies fan!

As a Dodger fan, this whole thing is giving me a headache. I gotta watch the Padres while we battle for the division. Then I gotta watch Philly, in case we need the wild card. Then, I gotta watch St Louis, 'cause if we do win the division, we're in a tight race for home field advantage...

All of this, of course, while watching my boys in blue drive me crazy (and ejoying Vin Scully in spite of it all)...

I going to the game against Arizona on Saturday. Sure hope it still means something!

Yes, if LA and Phila tie for the wild card, the one-game playoff will be in Phila! Long trip for your guys!

Yes, you might, if the Buccos keep up their current streak. I love playing the role of spoiler. Let's go Bucs!
