A Personal Thankyou..

Sun Dec 31, 2006 8:47 pm

Howdy,

As many of you know this year hasn’t exactly been good for me with me being attacked, hospitalised and the recovery period. It’s certainly a year I doubt I’m going to forget in my lifetime. So many things have evolved over the past year, meeting new people e.t.c.

However, the majority of people who actually helped me during the past year are from here.. the forums.. and to be honest without you guys I really don’t know where I’d be now. It’s just little things such as cards, letters wishing me well, gifts, telephone calls (even as far a Australia!). I’ve just been reading the letters again which has influenced me to start this thread. I remember when I initially received the letters it brought a tear to my eye to see that so many people, people who I’ve never met or even talked to were sending me cards and so on, it really did touch me to see that people cared, and especially those from a internet based forum.

I remember reading the various threads that were posted regarding my attack, I was amazed at the amount of people who replied, the amount of personal messages I received aswell as e.mails, I certainly wasn’t expecting anything along the lines of what happened in reality, it was truly outstanding and I cannot begin to describe how it made me feel, it was amazing..

My life has moved on in leaps and bounds in the past few months in starting back at work, in the job I love so much, I have to thank them for retaining my employment for such along time..

I’m still suffering from stomach pains now and again but doctors say this is a natural effect caused by the damaged that was initially done inside. I was back at the hospital this Friday just gone and they have finally given me the all clear, and do not have to return now, unless anything crops up in the near future (touch wood it doesn’t!). This was my milestone to reach, I remember saying to myself “this is my target now” and it’s finally happened, some 11 months later.

I’d also like to personally thanks Bruce Dickinson (Lead Singer of Iron Maiden) for his support, both financially and physically during the past year. Without Bruce and his wife I’m really not sure how things would of turned out for me in the long run.

So I wish to thank every single one of you who wished me well, sent me gifts, visited me at home e.t.c. I wish I could repay you all in some kind of way.

I wish you all a happy new year and hope 2007 brings you everything you wish for.

Thanks for reading,

Lew  cheerful

Lew, thank you for your gracious words, and if there is anything that gratifies many of us, it is that you are still with us and are recovering.

I remember reading with great concern about your condition when word came of the attack against you. By this message, I do not mean to claim that I've done anything much to deserve your thanks; to the contrary, I believe I did little more than post my best wishes to you, because, while I did not know you, I believed that it was the decent thing to do. But your words are greatly appreciated, nonetheless, and in this day and age, the fact that you and I have never met or interacted a great deal means little. We on Airliners.net are, in fact, a community, after all.

I have read many great things about your contributions to this Website, and while I am sad that you are still in pain, I am most grateful that you are still around and giving us hell when we need it.  Smile

God bless, and Happy New Year!

Lew, I may still be a poor little newbie, and I wasnt around at the time of your attack, but that aside, I'm really glad that you're recovering/recovered, and I wish you all the best for the new year. Not many people would bother to start this kind of thread, but you have. Good job, spiffing, smashing baby, groovy man, and so on....  bouncy

Well Lew, I still haven't managed to meet you but I am sure we'll get together for a pint or two sometime in the not to distant future.

Great to see you've been given the all clear from the hospital. Now, just try and stay out eh?

Looking forward to a New Year full of unknowns and uncertainty with one thing quite near the front - will Lew buy me a beer this year? Or will he do something to wriggle out of it again! Big grin

Take care mate, have a good one and I hope you go from strength to strenght.

Oh, and tell Bruce he was f*****g marvelous at Manchester. I can't wait for the next gig!

Hey man,

As a 21 year old who is also very ill I hope you have a quick recovery. I've spend more money on medical bills over the past year then on my total 3 and a half years at university, so I feel your pain financially as well.
