What Country Should I Flee To?

Tue Jan 23, 2007 2:59 pm

Even though it is two years before the next presidental election, with the field the democrats are running at the moment, I figure now is the time to start making contingency plans.

Two years might be enough time to pay off some debts and prepare.

So if Hillary gets elected what country should I flee too....I am thinking Canada or Australia at this time. Also I am thinking that might be enough of a window to think about getting a masters program and I understand some of the overseas programs are pretty good and in some cases are significantly less expensive.

Canada does have some cultural and climatic similarities to my home and the advantage of location. I have some Canadian heritage (My late grandmother was born and raised down). I also have heard that tuitions are pretty competitive for americans headed north.

Australia I don't know much but I seem to recall that there are a couple of pretty good Supply Chain and Aviation masters programs down there. I also think that the US dollar is competitive to the Aussie dollar so that should work in my favor on a tution basis.

So any other thoughts I should consider? Like I said I figure I have 2 years before I have to panic, but people don't plan to fail....they fail to plan!

Seeing as you're in Alaska Western Canada would be by far the easiest transition. Also, a Canadian education is recognized in both the US and Canada. I wouldn't be so sure about one from overseas. I think Canada only recognizes Canadian (obviously) and US, maybe UK too I'm not totally sure.

If you don't like Hilary, you won't like Canada. Our right is left of your left. (I hope that makes sense.)

When we went to Australia, it surprised me that it was actually further right than Canada. I didn't expect that. So that might suit you better. Still, realize that both countries have socialized health care, etc. You might not like either.

Just do what I'm planning on doing in a few years, buggering off to AMS and leaving this now chav ridden & overtaxed country behind  Smile

I think you should try Canada, after all you say it has a lot of heritage to you, and its also close so you could still visit folks without a very long journey.

We also have a comprehensive welfare program here, but our taxes are slightly higher to compensate for this.

Panama or Costa Rica is a great place to live. However, moving because some jackhole is elected president or not, really isn't a good excuse. Besides, no one can screw this country up worse than Bush......except if his brother Jeb Bush runs....hmmm.....LOL.

Regardless of who the next President is, he/she will have to pull our troops out of Iraq, and rebuild the shattered relationships with the world, and focus on economic policies, and let other countries in far off places solve their own problems.

Buy a small island and form your own country! If you are going to let politicians ruin your life than maybe you need to stop taking things so seriously. I meet people now and then who say " George Bush ruined my life" I always asked how that was possible? Please give me an expansion? usually they just get mad and walk away. I don't think my life would be much different if we elected ???? to be president.

From what I have seen on the CBC and from discussions in Ontario's taverns you are correct.

If you don't like a politician that much go out and help the competition get the vote. Most people don't do that they just sit and complain. I have worked campaigns for locals I want to see get elected. It can be fun. The victory parties can be fun!

Most of a university education is recognized anywhere. It is usually professional training that becomes an issue.

Come on now, since when is Alaska part of the US? Besides if she gets her geopolitical briefings from the same crew that briefed GWB she probably won't even know you are up there.

My best recommendation for anyone wanting to flee ANY western power is Darfur. If you have been paying any attention at all it is clear that Darfur does not even exist in the west.

To anyone wishing to leave the country because it has been taken over by the Left/Right let me offer that you are missing out on one of life's best "I told you so..." moments.

Purchased from Russia on April 16, 1867, Alaska became the 49th US state on January 3, 1959 - that's 48 years and 20 days ago.

New subject: What is wrong with Mexico? I mean, there are millions of Mexicans who haven't fled to the US (yet).

Could I suggest New Zealand? It's even more remote than AK, but with a (somewhat) warmer climate, is the most "free trade" country in the world, got rid of most of its "welfare" and has one of the most successful "little" airlines on the planet, offering true "round the world" service too!

On the other hand better google " Helen Clark" (or maybe its Clarke?) first!

I agree. I always think of the president as a international leader versus our local, state, and federal congress/senate our country's leaders. I really can't think of anything that a president has done that has changed my life that much. Local and state people seem to have more control over what I do day to day.
