I have one of each and quite honestly I love them both dearly, but boys are hell to raise as compared to girls. There is nothing like the relationship between a father and a son, however there is nothing closer than the relationship of father and a daughter. So I guess my answer is whatever comes along be thankful they are healthy and happy. Makes no difference. Now I have totally messed you all up, exactly like a politician

That was exactly my answer. A healthy child is all I ever hoped for, which is why we didn't want to know what the sex of the child was until birth.

I agree whole heartedly with that. When my youngest sister was born (my dad wasn't blessed with any sons), my grandparents (dad's side) went to my mom and said "You must be disappointed, huh?" My mom said she cried for weeks about it. I will love my kids no matter whether they are boy or girl.
Early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

I don't know that I would want to have a kid really. Sometimes, seeing the state that the world is in...I'm afraid that any child I have might be part of the grief.
Plus, after going to Riddle I don't know that I'd EVER have money to have one.

Exactly the answer I gave friends and family 13 year ago when we were expecting Miranda. Simply didn't care as long as the child was healthy.

I want both. I want the boy first so that I can ensure that my name lives on, and so that if I have a daughter she will have someone to protect her.

I want one of each, a boy that I can play football with, and a girl so when shes a teenager we can go out shopping together for Yves Saint Laurent, Valentino, and the likes. Coolest dad ever

10 and 10 is the first concern. That being said I wanted a girl, and got a boy. I wouldn't trade him for all the gold in Ft. Knox. I then got really lucky a few years after that and got my girl. They both have their issues; but the boy is on the honor roll and the girl is getting rave reviews in pre-k.

Me, I would prefer an older girl x 2(twins!) and a younger boy. Although I like the way AndesSMF is doing things.

My wife and my son are very close as I am with my daughter. I think that women tend to have a soft spot for the boys, as they know what the girls can get up too. Whereas men have the soft spot for their daughters, same reason as the girls

Just this last weekend a close relative of mine lost a child in childbirth, yes in this 7th year of the 21st century this still happens.
I am 700 miles away and have had some difficult days, I still cannot imagine what this must be like for the parents...
Be grateful for the healthy ones.. and treasure the special ones!!
If your camera sends text messages, that could explain why your photos are rubbish!....well that might have changed!!!

FWIW. my experience was just the opposite. Daughter was no problem whatsoever, and son has been a challenge.
Look at it this way - if you have a daughter, you don't have to worry about being a role model, when she becomes a teenager she will hate and fight with her mother for no good reason (very entertaining, I might add), and little girls always love their dad.

And two weeks ago our beautiful little Mathilde was born. The perfect baby girl. Can't say my wife is unhappy, as she's crazy about her daughter.
Had it been a boy, I think I would have been overwhelmed by joy just as well.
The only thing I/we would like to avoid is having only girls (was also true for the 'only boys' part, though that is now irrelevant). But even if I only father girls, I'll still be very happy !
Now, to book the shooting range lessons, as the dirty boys are going to try and take my perfect angel from me anytime !!!

I'll tell you, my wife gave birth recently and all we could ever hope for was a healthy child and we were blessed with a healthy baby boy. Thank G-d!

In case it helps, Halcyon, everyone feels rather the same way, in varying degrees, until the first kid actually arrives.
From that point on there's a sort of 'failsafe.' Once you start having kids, for the next twenty years or so, you're so damned busy, tired, worried where the money's going to come from, etc., that you don't have time to give much attention to the ills of the world and you stop worrying.
We had girl, boy, boy. Wouldn't have had it any other way. I agree with everyone who's said that it doesn't much matter which kind. I feel good that we had some of each - but I probably wouldn't have been unduly bothered if it had been all girls or all boys.
This being Australia, all girls would just have meant even more time spent messing around with horses - all boys would have meant even more hours spent on cricket and soccer. Lots of sailing with either sort, judging by my lot.
