So this patch of bad skin appeared back in Octoberish... I went down to student health and I was told to "slap some cortisone on that." Ok, that worked, up until about a week ago. I went back to student health when it reappereared to find out that either (A) I have developed an allergy towards cortisone or (B) my skin has gotten used to it and reverted. I have been off the lotion for a few days and its slightly better looking but it itches like all get-out and its basically impossible not to scratch. I can handle it in the daytime, but i usually find something to scratch it against while I sleep. Student health told me they will arrange a dermatilogist appointment, which will take "on the order of WEEKS" to schedule. Whoop-de-doo. In the meantime, just wondering if anyone here has had any experience with anything like this and could offer some advice to soothe the itching without the use of heavy medication (I have to fly a lot in the next coming weeks).

Looks like a skin infection, or perhaps an allergy. Do you wear latex gloves at all?
Otherwise, try washing with Dial soap and using neosporin ointment on it prior to your appointment.

I would say that my periodic condition is caused by the various chemicals and irritants (latex gloves, synthetic jet engine oil, brake dust etc.) I come in contact with working on aircraft. There is a myriad of chemicals, irritants and other nasties inside the cabin of an airliner. I don't think it is a result of "bashing the bishop", not that I do that anyway

I think your skin trouble appears just like contact dermatitis. A clearly defined area, a "ring" of activity towards the edge.
