G'day Jumpseatflyer,
I sometimes get a skin condition which I think is similar to yours. In my case, the condition usually manifests itself on my hands. My skin / flesh will actually swell up markedly and become somewhat squishy / firm in texture. The swelling will be so bad that it covers my entire hand and fingers. This actually prevents me from fully closing my fingers. This swollen flesh also has a strange property in that you can still feel the scratch sensation in the flesh after you have physically stopped scratching. This condition usually completely goes away by itself after about a week.

Too much spanking the Monkey if you ask me....
I would say that my periodic condition is caused by the various chemicals and irritants (latex gloves, synthetic jet engine oil, brake dust etc.) I come in contact with working on aircraft. There is a myriad of chemicals, irritants and other nasties inside the cabin of an airliner. I don't think it is a result of "bashing the bishop", not that I do that anyway

!
