Another "brilliant" move by Ken Holland. At least we didn't lose draft picks for this one...

Maybe Holland should head up to Alaska to the nearest dog race and see if he can bring Uwe Krupp back while he is at it.

Anson Carter from the Jackets to Carolina for a 5th round pick in the 2008 draft. Was really hoping they (CBJ)'d get a player for him. Maybe they can do something with the draft pick, though. The Jackets previously traded Mark Hartigan & minor-leaguer Joe Motzko to the Ducks for Zenon Konopka & IIRC, somebody else.

Jackets resigned Fredrik Modin yesterday, so that takes care of that rumored trade.

However, now that I look, Kyle Calder wasn't on the ice that often to accumulate this -31, so who knows. He was -4 a season ago with the Blackhawks, a season that saw him finish with 59 points. Time will tell with him I suppose.

Jackets' third G Ty Conklin traded to Buffalo for a 5th round pick in the 2007 draft. "Conks" saw a decent amount of ice time this year with the injuries to Pascal Leclaire & Freddy Norrena. Jackets pick up Chicago G Brian Boucher off waivers.

Kings unload Mattias Norstrom to the Stars for ex-King Jaroslav Modry.....teams also swap draft picks. I'll say this and let it go: Kings have had nasty habits of letting top-notch players leave, go win Stanley Cups elsewhere, then finish up their careers back in LA (ie Luc Robitaille and now Rob Blake).....good luck in Big-D, Mattias, and we'll see you back in a couple of years.

Big move for the Islanders. As long as they can actually sign Smyth to that extentsion and not lose him to free agency at the end of the season, then this deal looks great. Otherwise, they gave up way to much. It comes down to 3 fist round picks in essence. For whatever reason Nillson has not really seen any time with the big club and no one here knows why. Speculation is that Nolan does not like his game. O'Marra looks like he is going to be a good tough kid who can score. He is the one that worries me but you have to give up something to get something.

Pascal Dupuis has been traded yet again. The Rags send Dupuis and a 2007 3rd Round pick to Atlanta for Alex Bourret, the Thrashers' #1 pick in the 2005 draft (And was considered to be one of the Thrashers' top prospects). The Thrashers also picked Jason Krog back up on waivers after the Rags put him on wavers.

Never know...just keep it up, kid. Zetterberg and Chelios are out of the lineup tonight. Wonder what's going on there. Lebda just got a 10 minute misconduct on top of 5 for fighting and 2 for roughing. Guess he gets to shower while there's still hot water....

Oh well we are up 4-0 still, hopefully Zets just has something temporary he has been the most amazing player in the NHL the past month or so winning the #1 star almost every night on nhl.com.

Homer is taking Zets spot the last couple nights. He might just get a hat trick two games in a row now.

Wouldn't be the first time the Avs have made a stupid trade - ie Chris Drury for Derek Morris

I know there was a salary cap but losing Forsberg, Tanguay, Blake in about a years time is not very good GM work - compared to the old days with Pierre - bringing in Roy, Kariya, Selanne, Borque, Blake etc.

Of my two teams ('Canes and Pens) I'm downright disappointed in Carolina and so-so on what Pittsburgh did. For Carolina, Anson Carter is not the answer to our needs. I would love to have seen Rutherford make a play to get Aaron Ward back from the Rags, but alas, he was traded to Boston instead. At this point I doubt the 'Canes make it into the playoffs and, if the do, I see us as an 8th seed and going one round in, tops. Over the offseason, Rutherford needs to address the situation on the defense first - Glen Wesley and Bret Hedican, are in the twilights of their careers. David Tanabe is about as useful as a pylon and is a waste of cap space. Niclas Wallin is invisible until he gets to the playoffs where he's good for a clutch goal and that's about it.

Defense is a problem for my other team, Pittsburgh. Joel Kwiatkowski is a decent pick-up but he's not the sort of d-man I was hoping for. Georges Laraque was an unnecessary trade, but he did come at a low-price. I like the pick-up of Nolan Schaefer. I'm iffy on Gary Roberts despite USAFHummer's assurance that he still has some gas in the tank.

For the first time in the history of the NHL, there's a good chance that both teams that played in the Stanley Cup the previous season missed the playoffs the next. The Oilers definitely look to be out of it with the trading of Ryan Smyth, and the 'Canes are definitely going to be fighting the Habs and Leafs for that #8 spot and potentially even the #7 spot currently held by the Isles. As it stands now, the difference between 5th in the East and the 9th spot is 4 points. The Sens definitely look to have pretty much solidified the #4 seed. With the Southeast being as close as it is, that #3 seed will probably go back and forth between Tampa Bay and Atlanta (It could even potentially go down to their last game of the season, which incidentally has the Bolts @ the Thrashers.). Atlanta is 2 points back of Tampa (I wish the Stars could have taken care of them in regulation last night.) with 17 games left to play (Of those 17, 11 of them are against teams that are currently sitting out of the playoffs. Of those 11 games, only 6 of the games are against teams that are pretty much out of the hunt [3 games against Florida, 2 against Washington, and 1 game against Philly.]), but looking at the schedule Tampa has coming up gives the Thrashers some hope. The Bolts have a NW division swing (Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary) and games against the Devils, Isles, Sens, the Sabres, and two against Carolina.

Looks like it was moving day for several Coyotes Laraque to the Pens to help protect Crosby; Saprykin to the Sens, and Perreault to the Maple Leafs. Now if someone took Jeremy Roenick and his big mouth, guy still thinks he can play at the top level and wanted to go to a contender. Jeremy now you know what the league really thinks about your present skills. Meanwhile maybe in 2012 the Coyotes will make the playoffs..
