Pig ears - Not the nicest texture, as they can take quite a while to chew, but succulent taste!

Oh I forgot about those - I had smoked pig ear strips in a Lithuanian restaurant once. I agree about the texture, but they do taste very nice!

I also had reindeer and elk (not exactly common in Italy), both very tasty.

squirrel

Yes, you heard me right, squirrel. Had a next-door neighbor many years ago that wasn't too far removed from the sticks and they used to hunt squirrel. I really can't recall how it tasted though since this was 20 some odd years back.

I'm sure that in all of my years of eating at Chinese restaurants, the following is true:

Reminds me of a photo a friend sent taken in some motel room in the backwoods of Kansas:

Cod intestine wrapped in nettle and deep fried in tempura batter .... about as appealing as a snotty egg but tasted quite pleasant if you like fish!

My Grandma was off the farm......... luckily my parents married in 1950's when in New Zealand you still could go to the butcher and order "anything".

Grandma had a big influence on my Mum's cooking, not that she needed much help, as she was also a country gurl too.

From day one (more-or-less), we were bought up on Lamb Brains, Lamb Kidneys, Lamb/Beef Liver, Tripe - offal of every sort and kind!

I am amazed that the "offal" is now fetching such a high price, as all the "trendies" are serving it up at all their "arty-farty" retaurants!

I've even thought about doing my own "Country CookBook Recipies" (Roasted Lamb/Pork/Veal/Chicken as as specialtiy)

During my trip in South Africa we visited a restaurant called "Carnivore" and had:

-a zebra
-a crocodile
-a giraffe
-impala

That is quite a meal. How many of you were there?

Is the 'Lapp' reference starting to really disappear?

Yeah, it's not used much anymore. Although Swedish and Finnish Samis still call it "Lappland"

Quoting AndesSMF (Reply 48):
Why is it considered derogatory?

Hell if I know. I just know what I'm told  Smile
