AMS Meet Aftermath Thread (+ Pics)

Sun Apr 01, 2007 4:02 am

Sooo,

My day was excellent, my face is still glowing from the time spent outdoors in the wind/sun, but I really had fun. It was great meeting all of you again and also see some other faces.

I'll post some pics when I can, probably in a few days.
Hope your dinner was good and have fun tomorrow  Smile

I was not able to join today, Saturday, as life with kids can swift rather fast from one plan to the other.  Wink
Hope you all had a good time though.

Hi Everyone.

So sorry that none of us could attend the AMS meeting. Its been a tough time here at home and to add to it all I was referred to hospital after a routine smear test( that us girls have) , showed up severe abnormalities ( CIN3) and I was treated without delay at the hospital.Luckily, they got all the cells affected and I have to return to hospital in six months. After that I will be tested every year for the next 10years. To be honest, I'm going to be under observation for the rest of my life. I had this op done 14 years ago, but it was more severe . ( I was close to stage 1 of early cancer).
I'm sorry I haven't kept in touch but I hope you all understand that I had to put my health first.
Anyway!! Hope to see the pics and enjoy the meeting

 bigthumbsup

Hello people,

What a fantastic day we had. Indeed Kas, my cheeks are also still glowing ...... from the sun and the wind.

After meeting up at the panorama deck at Schiphol, we proceeded to say farewell to the Kaagbaan Spottersplaats. In typical Dutch style, a programme was drawn up. Second item on the programme was to ensure that the Aviation Hobby Shop had an excellent takings today. This Aviation Hobby shop is arguably the largest shop of its kind in Europe, and the mind boggles at some of the stuff they have there.

On to the Polderbaan, where we were treated to a myriad of 'blue ones' and a lot of 'little Fokkers' punctuated by a regular flurry of excitement when a 'big one' showed up. Even Erwin ran to his car to fetch his camera when the Jade Cargo 744 rolled into view. This may well be the only Airliners.net inspired meet to be recorded for posterity by Russian TV. Some of our number were interviewed about the phenomenon plane spotting by a very cold looking Russian television journalist. The poor guy hadn't taken into account the desiccating and cold north-easterly wind blowing in across the polders and had failed to dress accordingly.

After a discussion about the merits of parking the cars at Hoofddorp and taking the train into Amsterdam as opposed to driving to Amsterdam and parking at the Waterlooplein underground car park, we chose for the latter. A short walk via an Albert Heyn supermarket (females + shops = shopping) found us at Nam Kee's, a very good, reasonably priced and therefore very popular Chinese restaurant. Predictably we had a very good meal. Hopefully I've got a couple of nice shots of Jurgen ..erm.. feeling a little peckish. Pity you had to miss it Kas.

A good day was had by all. Thank you very much everybody. Have a good day tomorrow and a safe journey home.

Off topic I know, but perhaps one of you might know if Hoofddorp station has a car park. It's a train station on the other side of the A4 from the airport. It's too far to walk from the hotel.

Is anyone going to spot today as well?

It is not closed at all. Only houses are demolished and most of the trees are gone. I think it will be accesible for the next months to come before they are really starting construction work. So don't worry too much. The parking is there, the road is there, the snack-car is there, it's just like nothing has happened so far.

I will try to get over there by lunch or so to meet up again with the (small) group...

Kind regards,
Erwin

Actually Kas, they changed the parking lot. It is now a lot larger. Still would not park the car for more then a day though.

Same here. I've been told that construction will start early 2008, and that only then the spot will be closed. However, one of the guys running the roach-coach did mention their permits lapse late may. So they will no longer be allowed in after that. New permits have been (will be?) arranged for the Polderbaan.

Now talking about video, I managed to grab a few clips today during the Airliners.net meeting. Just in no particular order here they are, a few nice sights from a lovely and sunny day. Enjoy the videoclip!

Pity that besides saying hello to Yirina and Judith on arrival I was too wiped out from work to come to the Kaagbaan afterwards and didn't get to join you.

If my kids had really wanted to go I would have made the effort but as it was one had a CO courtesy course until 1700hrs and the other had to play a hockeygame so that's where I ended up.

Today I didn't finish work until 1600, place was hectic with the new reservations sytem for KL, ALTEA.

Better luck next time.

I'm home...finally!!!.

We left AMS a few minutes behind schedule due to heavy traffic and bad weather over France, according to what the Captain said.

Uneventful flight back to MAD on an IB A321 with the only highlight of the heavy turbulence that kept us bouncing around for about 80% of the 2hr15min flight.

It was GREAT to see some of you again as well as meeting new people. Looking forward to future meets (if I can recover from bankruptcy after visiting AMS shopping centre before leaving).

I'll post more during the week. It's too late now and I'm exhausted!!!.

Take care everyone!. Thanks for an awesome weekend!!
