Goodbye Spring-Hello Winter

Wed Apr 04, 2007 12:20 pm

Yes, it was 80 degrees at CLE today; it'll be 35 within 36 hours.

Mother Nature has teased the Upper Midwest and the Midwest enough. Time to return to winter. The Cleveland Indians will start their home season with snow showers.

Mother Nature is a bitch sometime, ain't she?

It was 80 F. last week. It's now 24 F. and snowing. And it's going to be like this for a week. What a crock of shit.

I completely agree. This sad game needs to be over. Apparently we're supposed to get 3 inches of snow tonight.. The wind is blowing like crazy and the temperature is 20 but the windchill makes it feel like 1... Just lovely.  Silly

Ahhh...the beauty of Ohioan weather.

I thought Bowling Green/Toledo would be somewhat better than Cleveland, but apparently, the weather sucks here just as much as it does in Cleveland.

At least I don't have to worry about that evil we Clevelanders call "lake effect snow," unless I drive home to Cleveland, then the drive on the Ohio Turnpike (I-80/90) becomes "fun."

I can relate! Temps are fluctuating like mad here, too. 78 one day, 75 the next. Then they'll spike to 82 only to plummet to a frigid 76 the following day.  duck

It's the odd number year curse which means that every other year their is snow in April. I have noticed it in 2003, 2005 and it looks like its going to happen this year.

On a more serious note this is just the opposite of an Indian summer when we have warm temperatures in October and November. Summer fights with Fall and Winter fights with Spring.

Here in Calgary, we're sitting at -7C and light snow.

However, instead of getting shittier as the week moves on, we're progressing to +15-18C and sunshine. Then back down to about 10 and rain.

After about May 1, we're expecting things to take an upturn: low 20s and sunny. However, it always seems to rain in June here (must be a curse).

The upside of things, however, is that we're expecting an above-average summer here in the Canadian Prairies, meaning that precipitation will be slightly lower and temperatures will be slightly higher than usual, but it makes me, the sun-tanners and the farmers happier.

Hope the weather gets better in your necks of woods (however you say it).

Cheers,
Nik

We're lucky...it's a beautiful day in Yorkshire today. It isn't warm, but we have glorious sunshine and slightly hazy blue skies, with very little wind. If it were only 10F warmer, it would be perfect.

Yeah, I am just a little sick of the shitty weather lately too... I've been here 7 years now and I am so tired of this crap!

I have seen it snow every month of the year here... and be +20 in the dead of winter.

Time to go back to BC, I think...

Okay...so I got a weather briefing from the Cleveland Flight Service Station (FSS) this morning. I decided not to fly after there were Airmets and Pireps for turbulence, icing, and IFR-only conditions (I am not yet IFR-rated, and my University's airplanes don't have anti/de-ice).

The woman at the CLE FSS stated that the weather would clear up after the Cleveland Indians home-opener and Easter Sunday.

Checking in from Grand Forks, where a week ago it was just starting to break into the fifties, yesterday saw a high of oh, about 20 degrees. This sucks, and just when Nature was starting to float good weather our way, she turns around with "oh I'll show you to pullute...APRIL FOOLS, BITCHES!"

Boy, everything about Ohio does suck.

Weather in Gainesville, FL: Sunny low to mid-80's.

Forecast is for a cold front to move through the next couple of days, highs in the low-'70's. Burrrrrrr.

Monday morning I awoke to very heavy, wet, snow. In April. In Vancouver 9well, the Fraser Valley). WTF? It was a veritable blizzard in some areas. I felt like I was back in Calgary.............

It started snowing last night. It is supposed to end Sunday. We are under a Winter Storm Warning with accumulations typically expected around 6-8 inches with some spots picking up over a foot by tomorrow. Could have sworn we were nearing the end of mud season. Instead we went back to winter which means that we will also get a second crack at mud season. Joy! Thankfully it is hard to see all the snow from the basement of the library  Wink

Don't have ant/de-ice? Does that mean there is equipment available that will replace the ice that the de-icing system takes away?  wink

Was just out at the 100th Bomb Group between 1900-2000 and they changed the ATIS twice in ten minutes. The visibility went down to 1-1/2 miles with sustained wind shear of 10-20 kts and moderate icing from 7000 ft AGL to touchdown. That's some nasty you-know-what. Of course, everything's delayed.

We hit a high of +41F today at work. And it's not making it below 0 F at night any longer.

Still have feet of snow to melt off. Everything's muddy, everything is brown.

It's the season we have right after winter and before summer known as Breakup. GOnna be this way for a month.

Here in Maryland, I say especially with Global Warming and El Nino fucking everything up that we have:

  • Winter
  • Summer
  • Rainy Season
  • draught

Spring, Fall and seasonal weather you ask? Those are considered the freaky weather!
