Guy Who Collects Stewardess Uniforms

Sun Apr 29, 2007 2:35 am

Not sure if this guy should be applauded or locked up in a Psych ward but he's got an impressive collection of uniforms from most airlines. Judge for yourself.

....and you take pictures of airplanes.

so why should he be sent to a psych ward for his hobby?

I wonder how long it took to take those pictures for each different uniform.

I've actually had the chance to meet him. He worked my flight to DEL from AMS in August 2002.

Was he dressed in one of the uniforms from his collection?

beyond that ... i wonder if he doesnt have upteen copies of the same mannequin and have them all on display somewhere.

it would be great if such a collection could make it into an aviation museum.

ok, can we stop with the "stewardess" word?

We are called FLIGHT ATTENDANTS nowadays....sheesh.  Angry

He is or was a flight attendant so it's perfectly normal for him to collect uniforms. If he wasn't, then MAYBE it could be seen as questionable behavior. But then again, many people collect unique things so, to each their own. I am personally fascinated with different airline's flight attendants uniforms so I enjoy the site.
It's time to FLY!

I'm working with them about every day. At least the female ones here don't mind if they are being called stewardess, Cabin attendant, flight attendant, or depending on what terms you are with them (in a joking mood) hostie (there exist some words as well if the relationship is not that well, like in "I don't know how this trolleydolly managed to open the forward toilet water drain valve with it's grey handle in flight instead of the yellow lav shut off valve!")
Obviously I would never call a male F/A a stewardess.

Steward and stewardess come from a nautical tradition, same as the purser.

The guy who owns this collection is an a.netter.

I think he's got a great collection and has documented it very well.

Another thing would be (on checking the cabin during night stop) "Which %&%$$/ trolleydolly has again opened the first aid kit to nick the (headache pills, band aids, burn gel...) and twisted the opened seal (copper wire with a lead seal) together in way that it looks at first glance as if it was intact instead of writing it into the cabin log!")

At BA we are still often referred to as steward/stewardess, which to be honest I much prefer to "flight attendant". Must be a European thing.

Apart from that, it's a fantastic website. I tell all my colleagues to check it out, especially those who whine and moan about our uniform.

So long as he isn't trying them on what's the big deal?

As a museum professional, if I have learned one thing, it's that people will collect just about any damn thing. Once that collection is big they then make a mini museum out of it.

It give packrats focus.

If you compare the definitions of each word you'll find that Flight Attendant is more derogatory than Steward/Stewardess
