Favourite Sandwiches

Thu May 03, 2007 9:35 pm

I'm just eating my lunch at work, Corned Beef and Beetroot Sandwiches. Thought I'd start a thread and see what your favourite sandwich is. Mine were home made, on Wholemeal Bread.

anything from Primanti Bros

Just had my first cheese steak from Primanti Bros on Friday evening before a trip across the river to catch a ball game.

Because it's the last great sandwich I had, I'll have to vote for this one.

We have a local sandwich shop that makes a killer Steak and Cheese, and Roast Beef sandwiches. I think the key is the steamer they have that steams and heats the sandwich. I'm hungry for one now.

Avocado? On the side?

My current favorite is one I just build myself - sliced pieces of savory rotisserie chicken on whole grain with mustard and American cheese. It's really simple and easy to fix. I might go buy a rotisserie chicken tonight, now that you've brought this to my attention  Wink .

I work in a sandwich shop and my favorite is by far the Godfather on a french roll. You have french bread, lettuce, tomatoes, italian dressing, spices, onions, provolone cheese, salami, and capicola ham. I usually leave of the onions and have pickle slices instead. Absolutely delicious.  yummy

Mandatory: crusty, white bread and slightly salted Clover or Country Life (butter would be the next choice - nothing else will do, though it usually has to  sarcastic  ) plus...

1. Egg mayo and anything that goes with it, e.g. ham, chicken, prawns, smoked salmon
or
3. smoked salmon and Icelandic caviar (lumpfish roe, dirt cheap) with a little mayonnaise
or
2. Mayo and anything that goes with it. e.g. white meat, seafood

I love M & S food in general but they do lousy bacon in sandwiches - too streaky for me.

#1: Cuban Sandwich. The best I've had was at a Cuban place in Hoboken, NJ called La Isla as well as a hole in the wall sandwich shop in Union City, NJ.

#2: My own little creation. Egg whites, turkey and swiss on wheat bread. If I want a little more flavor I throw lettuce, tomato, and bacon on it.

What about Falafel :

Falafel, recognized worldwide, is very popular in the Middle East as a fast food. Vendors sell it on the street corners in Cairo, just as hotdog vendors do in New York. As a main dish, it is served as a sandwich, stuffed in pita bread with lettuce, tomatoes, and tahini. As an appetizer, it is served on a salad, or with hummus and tahini. Falafel is a favorite among vegetarians.

We have fantastic sandwiches in New York from a place called Mangia. My favorite was the now-discontinued Lemon Chicken on Baguette, so nowadays I settle for the Westphalia Ham and Brie or the Smoked Turkey on Black Bread. There are four outlets in NYC and is worth the special trip.

Not too far away is the Carnegie Deli, for top notch overstuffed Deli sandwiches- Pastrami / CB on Rye is tops.

Don't miss these places if you're visiting NYC.
