The Best (non Av) Picture You've Ever Taken Thread

Sun May 06, 2007 1:12 pm

I know it's hard to narrow it down to just one, but give it a shot.

1) Palm Springs, CA, taken from Amtrak's Sunset Limited. I lucked out and got a clean window, good angle, and good lighting.

It is just a X shot of a leafless tree in some unimportant part of my school's campus. But there is something about this picture, that I just like.. What and why, I can't tell you..

This is a cliche.
And I can't really take credit for any composition as the scene was itself so beautiful.
There's something about New York city that I always like and this picture always brings me to a rapt attention everytime.

View of Mid and up-town Manhattan from 86th floor of Empire State. Some common landmarks are clearly visible - Central Park, Rockefeller Center.
And oh yeah, this was taken on the last evening of 2006. December 31st 2006 that is...

Midtown Manhattan

I go with your first shot as it has a mix of darkness and light that gives it a sense of mystery.

I made a similar shot a while ago that is not really my best shot, but I like it.

I call it "The Shipyard". It contains some small artifacts though, which I still have to edit...

You can find some more on http://www.gebenus.com/
The site is still under construction. Most of the photos are not in their final editing state yet. Site will be updated on June 01.

Absolutely! I was only there for an hour or so and I could quite happily have stayed there all day snapping away - I'm only sorry I never made it to The Wave but tickets to go there, whilst they are free, are done on a lottery basis and you have to get there at 7am in the morning and might not even get to go.

A marginal action shot

This shot shows the love the trainers have to the Orcas, and sets up the next shot.

I love abstract shapes and juxtaposing good, strong colours. All the pics below are local, and taken in the great weather of the last few weeks:

Dried-up mud in a ditch.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y193/Braybuddy/SANY3057a-1.jpg

No comment needed!

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y193/Braybuddy/SANY2728-1.jpg

Unfortuantely the zoom wasn't long enough to see what this woman was texting.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y193/Braybuddy/SANY2654a-1.jpg

A young couple had obviously forgotten to set the height of their seat in a photo-booth, then discarded the bad shots.

I have a banana tree (yes, they can grow here) growing in the garden, and this fresh, backlit leaf made an interesting abstract pattern.

That's Luggala Estate, home of the Guinness family. Michael Jackson rented the place for a couple of months last summer while the owners were away. He caused a mini-sensation in the locality with his occasional forays with his kids to bookshops, cinemas, etc.

The driver of the tour bus did mention that, he called the lake the "pint of Guinness". In any case, its absolutely beautiful... I fell in love with Ireland and Dublin. I've applied to study at Trinity, and i'm hoping to get a decision soon!

I may not be the best photographer, but I like these.

The view from my dorm room, back when I was a student.
Big version: Width: 1024 Height: 768 File size: 161kb

Taken around 1AM in July. Could be sunrise, could be sunset, who knows. These are the actual colors, no playing around with saturation and whatnot in this pic.
Big version: Width: 1024 Height: 768 File size: 153kb

A lake near Denali Park with nice reflections, a shame that the sky got blown out though.
Big version: Width: 1024 Height: 768 File size: 346kb

Some mountains in the Denali area, I really like the lighting here.
Big version: Width: 1024 Height: 768 File size: 241kb

A smoke filled sky during one of the worst forest fire seasons Fairbanks ever experienced.
Big version: Width: 1024 Height: 768 File size: 214kb

The remains of a tree that was knocked down by the wind. I don't know why I like this pic so much, but I do.
Big version: Width: 1024 Height: 768 File size: 620kb
