The Post The Pic(s) Of Your Car Thread

Sun Jul 15, 2007 1:07 pm

Seems like a good time to start one based on the fact that we have not had one recently,

This is my BMW 540i I just recently bought with custom M parts installed in the vehicle such as custom air intake, and stiffer struts.

Ain't she purrrdy?

I ordered those from Bavarian Auto Sport. Thought they would look kind of cool right there where mercedes puts their

I guess? The M badges are dumb since it clearly isn't an M car (not even with a sport package), not to mention it isn't centered in the right spot. Sorry to rain on your parade, nice car though.

I did not put the M on the car. The previous owner did. The only thing I put on the car were the V8 emblems. The car had some "M" aftermarket type work on the vehicle, so I'm assuming that's why he did it.

Those are stock emblems and they do look good...on a Mercedes V12 not a 540i, you look like an idiot with some aftermarket V8 sticker on that BMW. Honestly, youre the laughing stock of everyone who knows even a little about cars.

Take the emblems off as it takes only 10 seconds with a hair dryer, you dont have an M car...not even ANYTHING close to it.

I like the car alot though, it will be a nice ride once those 14 year old rice badges are off.

While you are removing the M badges, you may want to remove the temporary plate in the rear windshield that says 03 (as in 2003). You say you just recently bought this car? That is a Texas tag - the naming conventions on Texas temp tags always have the two right spaces for the year in blocked out marker.

Mine as well remove the interior by Kia.

I drive a 2000 Dodge Stratus and really have no reason to post, let alone even take a picture of it. It is just one of those cars that really just doesn't matter, you know? Maybe someday I will get something cooler and worth posting.  Smile

However.....I really hate to rain on your parade UAL, but come on. Those badges are downright stupid. The rear M logo is out of place, has no number following it, and to top it off, your vehicle is far from an M5. What is worse though are the V8 badges. Not only are they ugly, but they don't fit the car at all. Other BMW drivers and enthusiasts will look at you with great disappointment.

It was a great ride stock, but sadly was turned into nothing more than a 16 year olds hand-me-down from his dad.

well, on second thought, that *may* be the date (as in 08 03, or Aug 3)

Regardless, get rid of the badges. Its a 540i, not an M5. Right  Wink

Any "M" badges that aren't factory installed don't look right. This one is no exception IMO. You can also count me in for the "V8 badge never should have been installed" camp.

Quoting UAL747 (Thread starter):
custom M parts installed in the vehicle such as custom air intake, and stiffer struts.

How are these "custom M parts"? Do they have a BMW part number? Are they branded under the BMW "Motorsport" name?

A BMW M car is a very highly researched/developed and very well integrated package. Replacing something like the struts doesn't do much for a non-M car. The M5 would have different shocks, springs, sways, wheels, ride height, etc than the standard 5 series. Given that this car is a 6 speed manual, I believe it has an obligatory sport suspension from the factory. If only struts of this system have been replaced, you can easily do more harm than good to the handling balance of your car. I hope you didn't pay any additional money for these "custom M parts".

I probably wouldn't have commented on any of this stuff if I hadn't noticed that this car has "General" tires installed (at least they appear to be after increasing the gamma in Photoshop). The money spent on these BS "custom M parts" would have been better spent on decent tires if you're concerned about handling.

You've got a nice car but I'd remove all the non-factory badges and put some decent tires on the vehicle.

PS - Don't put anything in the factory cup holders (if you haven't figured that out already). They are useless as cup holders and also break easily.

Specifically in a friends garage 5 houses down, he works at a local Chevy dealer (Hoskins in Elk Grove Village). He has 2 Impala SS of his own so he maintains mine and stores it ever since I left for school in Florida 2 years ago. Parents told me to put it in storage for the 10 months out of 12 Im gone as we only have a 2 car garage and a small driveway as you can see from other houses in our subdivision in the pic below (We barely can fit our cars on it now!). Must say, I was not to keen to have it rot outside in the Chicago snow and weather    . The garage is reserved for my moms Riviera and this:

Some BMW cup holder experience (and evolution):

E34 - no cup holders
E36 - fixed "drop in" cup holders (but a dealer installed accessory that attached to the center console)
E38 - slide out cup holders in front of the gear selector.
E39 - slide out cup holders in front of the gear selector.

I remember an E46 325xi (dealer loaner) that had decent cup holders but the pivoted "swing arm" type are pieces of garbage (and expensive).

Funny you say this, my neighbor had a newer BMW 740i until recently traded for an E500. She gave me a ride somewhere, dont remember really where but the point was that I put a can of Sunkist in there and the cup holder just broke the same second. I felt like a real douchebag and was scared to even think how much that would cost. Fortunately she told me that thats the 3rd TIME that happened and the dealer was going to fix it under warranty yet again.

My current car (E90) is the first one I have had with cup holders, they were optional on some of the previous ones I had so I didn't bother (didn't even think about it actually). The driver's one swings out towards you and it is placed directly above the cell phone cradle, perfect drip tray LOL.

What's with aviation fanatics/aviation workers and BWM's?

Never found the newer ones too interesting...though teh older the Bimmer, the more I like....the old 7 series are really cool looking vehicles...

Now, for the Jeeps, when will they make anything that is reliable? They have traditional off road prowess (except for the new "bogus" Jeep models) but their reliability (Dana 44's?!?!) is aweful.....

I really like these. The only issue is when the plastic bits that conform to the size of the cup/bottle and hold the container in break, as one did when I had my car detailed. They still hold, but they always tilt one way or another.

[/quo

[quote=FlyingTexan,reply=23]well, on second thought, that *may* be the date (as in 08 03, or Aug 3)

That is an Untitled Vehicle license. It says 08 03, meaning I have until the 3rd of Aug to register the vehicle.

How is the new 5 series? It's taken me a little while to understand and like the body style, but it is growing on me. I also like the new 3 coupe, but not really the 3 sedan.

LOVES it. it is a smooth, seamless machine. i could do without the idrive, but as a technologically driven person, i have become accustomed to it. i am one of the few who likes the direction BMW has gone in (i'll admit it, i'm not ashamed) and my 5 is just one hell of a comfortable ride.

moreover, the interior components are also a welcome feature. aside from a fab job of limiting the number of buttons on display (main complaint about volvo and mercedes) but between the bluetooth which seamlessly syncs with my iphone and the ipod connectivity that runs via idrive, it has all the features i need without "cluttering" the interior with unecessary cables or additions.

clean, simple and elegant. thats how i view the car, which is a reflection of how i live anyhow.
