What's Your Antipode?

Mon Jul 16, 2007 5:41 am

Mine is in the desert of West-Central Botswana on a highway linking Maun with Windhoek, Namibia.

Check this site out. You can pinpoint the exact location of your home's antipode.

Is Vancouver the default location that comes up for everyone?

It was freaking me out for a minute; I was trying to figure out how it could possibly know where my hometown was.  silly

Anyway, my antipode is just a bit west of the French Southern & Antarctic Islands.

I am in Monaco. My antipode is East of New Zealand right on the international dateline. Maybe it is one of these most wonderful South Pacific Islands, but I can't really tell.

They all start as Vancouver. You have to move it to your locale  Smile

Mine is probably about 500 miles SW of the SW corner of Australia, in the middle of the ocean.

Wow, I think mine probably splits the Indian Ocean in half between Durban, South Africa and Perth, Western Australia. I'll have to make sure to visit sometime.  Silly

A good 1000km southwest of Perth.

This is a good reminder, looking at the results above, that 70% of the Earth is Ocean!

Good luck on this thread. Most of the posters are from Europe and the USA, and their antipode's for the most part are in the middle of an ocean somewhere.

Pretty much the same for me living in Olympia, WA.

As for where I sit now (Lappeenranta, Finland)...somewhere dead smack in the deep South Pacific Ocean.

I had just read something about antipodal calculations that (roughly) only 15% of all locations will have a corresponding land-based antipode.
