Next LAX Meet?

Mon Aug 13, 2007 3:02 pm

Since the last Los Angeles meet was last October (21OCT06), sometimes I can't help but wonder when will the next one be? Who's game for a future LAX meet?

Here's a shot from the last meet:

Count me In

Would love to spot with some local anetters, talk airplanes and so on, not to mention In-n-out. I have can drive people over to Imperial Hill, if needed. Lets make this on a day, that will hopefully be clear.

I'd be up for it. The last time I've taken photos at LAX was January 2006.

I'm hoping to move back out there sometime in the next month or two, so if it's after that, I'd definitely be down.

I live about a mile from the In-n-Out so I should be able to make it...after all, I walk along Westchester every day, might as well meet some cool people while I'm at it! Just pick a date and I'll be there.

Since I'm now in California (San Francisco), I would love to attend a LAX meet!

I was at LAX this last April (BA LHR-LAX 744 roundtrip and WN LAX-SJC roundtrip) for interviews, and I loved the variety there.

So, when can I come down from San Francisco for a meet?

One can always park at the shopping center nearby or at Parking Spot. I still don't know how to get to the Hill.

Sepulveda to Imperial
Imperial Highway West
Left onto Main St (El Segundo) (L&L BBQ and 711 are on the corner)
Left on Imperial AVE (first light after Imperial Highway). Go up the hill past the car wash look for the flags.

Well there are two ways to get into Imperial from Sepulveda, so I wanted to keep it vague to avoid confusion.

If you really should go for that date, make sure to shoot a picture of LH's A346 inbound from MUC at 2.25pm as I will be on that plane in seat 5K.
I will continue to ELP the same evening, so there is no chance for me to participate in a meeting at LAX.  Sad
Also on my return connection through LAX (inbound from MAF via ABQ and PHX), I will have no time to spare, but will sample LX's C-class on their A343 to ZRH afterwards ... Big grin

Meanwhile I've got accustomed the the rather long T/O-roll of well-loaded A343's ... Big grin
Never experienced the A346 as a pax yet, but telling from a spotter's point of view, its T/O-performance is considerably better.

I've seen some A346's of China Eastern have some long TO rolls also-but thats why I like the A340-it makes take offs interesting!

Its a bit unnerving to see some of the A340's rotate at LAX. Altho I have never seen it myself, Im guessing the A343 of Phillipines has a long takeoff roll. Unfortunately it leaves quite late. The "scariest" takeoff rolls have been China Eastern of 24L going to Shanghai. I know the takeoff's have been calculated, but that was definetely one of the scarier takeoffs.

I was giving a friend directions down to Redondo Beach about a month and a half ago. Told her to get off of the 405 on Crenshaw, and take Crenshaw south.

I received a call later on, when they were slightly lost on Crenshaw:

"Vik, Crenshaw runs east-west!!"

I laughed.

So what day/days are we going to meet?

IF anyone is interested, maybe we should head to the Flightpath musuem, check it out and hopefully get access to the ramp.

I dont mean Ramp access near the aircraft but right where the Flightpath museum is, a museum volunteer will escort you to the DC-3 thats sitting there, you can go inside, and then once youre done you can request them to stay on the ramp there and ask to take some pictures.

ok guys before we get ahead of ourselfs lets set a date first. Labor day aint going to work cause most people are going somewhere or going to the SFO trip. So you think we should aim for late September or early October. How does that sound!

Early October would probably be better for me.

If an earlier date works better for people, though, don't worry about it. I haven't figured out exactly when I'm gonna move out there, anyway (aiming for mid-September...but I'm driving, so it'll take about a week).

LAX you say? Depends when it is, I coud drive up. The horrors of LA traffic await me. Alireza and I could have an M3 mini-meet. HA.

What sort of glass do you folks have? I have an 18-55, 55-200, 70-300mm sitting on a Nikon D80. No fancy expensive lenses from me, but I'm happy I have a DSLR.

So I'm guessing like October 5 (Fri) 6, or 7th? What say you?
