I had nothing better to do this summer than drive to the edge of hell....

But, I looked fabulous doing it! Don't hate me 'cause I'm beautiful! Big grin

If I didn't have family in Salt Lake City and Ogden, I would have gone somewhere fabulous like San Francsico or Los Angeles with side trips to Reno and Las Vegas. Oh, well. Winter is coming on, so I have somewhere to be seen in December!
You bet I'm pumped!!! I just had a green tea!!!

I expected, not to sound arrogant, a higher class of college. From the moment I got there, things went wrong. They had lost ALL of my records and it was a pain to sort out, the prices were over the top for classes that weren't that great, and their propaganda (Harvard of the skies...tehehe.) was annoying. While the engineering students (I was not housed with any pilots.) have a decent program, the costs for AS simply do not add up to a good value. I also saw all of the state during my time, so there was little left to do.

ERAU seemed more like high school minor both in the mentality of many of my classmates and in the difficulty of the work. If I'm going to pay over a thousand dollars per credit hour for a class, I expect to enhance my own life. As it was. I realized, along with some of my friends, that I was a cash cow for the university. When I left, the career counselor remarked that she was busier with transfers to other schools than with graduating students, and that she thought that I had made a really good choice. (Shh!) ERAU does have some positives...they have many good profs, the food doesn't outright kill you, although it is torture, and their advertising and PR department is the sliest around.

As an ending note, when I first mentioned I was going to transfer, they sent me to the wrong adviser because, as it turned out, I was given the wrong one from the start, although they never mentioned it. After waiting a week or two, I went back and they'd done nothing. The lady had just thrown my stuff away because I "wasn't her problem." I was then sent to a Mr. Lessard, and I mentioned that I was also transferring due to my interest in the medical field. After this, he proceeded to tell me that only the brightest of the bright could be doctors or paramedics and that I should rethink what I was doing. He was even so arrogant as to tell me that I should drop AS as I wasn't "fit for it" and take an easier major, like meteorology, for four years. I just looked at him, told him that I was already in the medical field and that I didn't put much value on his opinion, and left.

There's much more, and I can't speak for the DAB campus, as I was in the pit they call PRC. I can happily say that I have no second guesses at all.

Venting over.  Smile

Lucas

PS-Much of my consternation with Riddle came from the lack of females. I've always gotten along best with females, and even though I already had a ladyfriend and was not looking for love, there was a distinct atmosphere-a subculture almost-due to the fact.

I agree with you that Riddle has many negatives (maybe PRC has even more) but I am sticking around for the positives.

The positives in my case is that I saved a lot of time and money doing my advanced flight ratings at ERAU and getting good experience in glass cockpits. Doing it this way has saved me money in the long run. It's a wash when you look at tuition, but alas.

ERAU is also probably one of the best places to instruct and build hours. You get to fly brand new airplanes, they give you all the students you could ask for, and if you screw up, they've got you covered like a jimmy hat.

Plus, good connections with airlines and internships especially.

All that said, if I had predicted that the industry would be making such a big comeback right now, I probabably wouldnt have come to ERAU. But if the industry is in the crapper, ERAU is a good place to be because you'll be the first one hired when things start opening up.

My highlights this summer...

Huge long trip round the Pacific in May/June - NCE-LPL/MAN-EWR-BOG-LAX-AKL-BNE-SYD-HNL-EWR-AMS-NCE - all for work, but I got to see family in the UK and Australia, and spend a week in Hawaii, which was pleasant. BNE was great too, reaffirmed why I love Australia (don't tell QFF) - nowhere else in the world can you go into a cafe and order coffee and peanut butter toast for breakfast - so civilised.

Trips to Mexico, Brazil

A week on the beach on the Outer Banks, North Carolina with my brother and sister and their families.

I'm 6'4 and my only complaint about the CRJ is having to duck when walking down the aisle and all too often not ducking far enough and hitting my head on the "EXIT" sign. But then again, I hit my head on one of the tv's hanging in the aisle on a US 757 last week too.

The word I use to describe this town is "skanky". And it seems like the farter away you get from the Hilton or the speedway, the shadier the town gets. At least Orlando is an hour away and there's plenty to do there.
However, the best part of the year is just around the corner. Sunday afternoon and Monday Night Football at Winghouse.  biggrin

How old are you again?

Not old enough, as it happens, to drink legally anyway! But they don't give a rats arse in Tenerife!  Silly

Quoting Walter747 (Reply 127):
Anyways is that something to be proud of?

I'm not trying to be proud, unlike yourself who thinks smoking weed is cool...

Quoting A340600 (Reply 137):
Are you mocking Paul's achievements?

He can mock all he likes, I'll have been drinking legally for around 5/6 years before he can take his first legal sip of alcohol.  rotfl

Sure, we're concerned for our lives. Just not as concerned as saving 9 bucks on a roundtrip to Ft. Myers.

The two best things in my life!

So the highlight of my summer was falling in love. As cheesy as that sounds, it is the honest to god truth, and I couldn't be happier. I spent most of the summer @ UND (and where I currently am), and this picture was taken three weeks ago on a beautiful flight to the San Juan Islands.

Also, an accomplishment I am quite proud of is in the past 12 months, I have lost exactly 70 pounds. 70 pounds! Down from 250 to 180. I feel so much better, and for the aviation nerds, that is 11 and 2/3 gallons of 100LL fuel more to carry! I think these two pictures show the difference best.

Last year...

And this year!!!
