How Many Miles Do You Drive Per Year?

Sun Sep 23, 2007 9:39 am

How many miles do you drive per year? How to figure this out: Figure the monthly part and multiply it by twelve. Forgive my ignorance if this thread has been brought up before.

If I had to estimate it would be between 7000 and 10000 miles per year.

If I started a thread "how many jobs do you get a year" I bet MCOFlyer would win.  Smile  Wink

I don't drive yet myself (have been saying I must learn now for over 4 years though) but I probably travel about 10,000 miles per year in a car. Aside from the little trips, there are regular 500 mile returns to the midlands and back from where I live in the South West. Tomorrow I'll be accompanying my mother to Gillingham and back, that'll be about 600 I expect!

Probably travel the same again by train and coach around the UK.

On average for the last 35 years, probably in my own, others and rental cars on vacation and business, probably about 12,000-13,000 miles a year. From August 28, 2006 to a year later, I probably drove a total of 20,000 miles in my car, my moms and other cars due to personal circumstances.

With my old car it was 10K a year. Now it is between 10-14K. At 40K I will stop doing pizza delivery or get a 2nd car that is cheap. I want this car to last me for a good 7-10years.

In a slow year only about 75K in my company car, but a busy year will see 100-115K. Over the last thirty years, I've driven over 3 million miles in the limo business, with no wrecks and only one ticket. Not that I haven't deserved more tickets, but I just don't get stopped. That one ticket was while I was driving to Vermont on vacation.

I picked up my car on June 20, 2006 with 149 miles on it. It has 27,646 on it today. So about 1800 miles a month, 22k per year.

0 miles (approx. 0 kilometers.)

I only owned a car for about 3 years (high school -> college). Practically haven't sat at the wheel for the last 7 years. I hope I'll never need to own a car again. When there's really no alternative, I'll rent (happened once last year, for half a day.)

To work and back alone - 33600 miles. Plus personal driving will rack it up to about 55,000 a year if not more.

About 4,500 km a year or 2,800 miles a year.

Reasons:
1. I live close to a major town, and
2. I work at home.

I do enjoy thinking of all the petrol I don't have to buy, the only thing to disturb the happy thoughts is the high fixed costs per kilometre!! But then you cannot have everything! I do sometimes wonder if taxis would be a cheaper solution.

In 1979 I did do the obvious and bought an Aus version of Yank tank second hand which had truly dreadful fuel consumption. After petrol dropped in price in 1985 we were able to trade it in in 1988 for slightly more than I paid for it.

Average about 15,000 a year. I live in Montana, things are a wee bit spread apart. My folks' home and where I go to school are 220 miles distant from each other. Not to mention where I go to school is about 10 miles from where I live, so that drive happens at least twice a day...

I average between 30,000 and 35,000 a year. It's 25 miles to work and 30 home (picking up the kid from school), plus any other driving and out of town trips.

Now that I have my new 4x4 pickup, I'll be able to use more than twice as much gas as I used in the Impala!  Big grin

Typically I drive between 15,000-20,000 miles per year. I used to drive more when I lived in Dallas, (Bigger City, going from Dallas-OKC to see parents, etc.), which totally sucked because at the time I was in a lease with BMW on a 330ci convertible. Man, when you return those things, they tack on $$$$$$ penalties for over your mileage. Typical lease states 45,000 in three years, mine had about 65,000 when I returned it 3.5 years later. Never done a lease again because of this. I own now.

Well, the way I see it is that to learn to drive would cost me £600 or more, including paperwork and either lessons or insuring the family car for me to drive into a wall. After that I'll have to either buy a car and then get insurance, more $€£, or be added to the current insurance on the parents car. So, there's at least a couple of grand that I would rather use to go travelling and, whilst I'm a student, I still have a legitimate reason to bum lifts off people Big grin
