But I've read that India has economic ties with Myanmar that they dont want to exactly put at risk

It is strange that Bush do this to Burma when he still is friend with
Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Thailand etc with the same type of non
democratic gvmt.

no doubt, but they mean something to our government, what does America have to lose by having bad relations with Burma?

Neither China nor India will act tough with Burma. Too many irons in the fire there for both of them. After the initial flurry of condemnation, usual service will resume over there. No way out but a negotiated solution in Burma right now.

Actually acc. to a Chinese official quoted in the German "Spiegel" news magazine, China could well deal with a democratic government in Burma, but at the moment, with the western embargo in place, they virtually have a monopoly position in Burma in buying raw materials and can get everything cheaper. Once the embargo goes (e.g. after the election of a democratic government) they'll have competition in Burma and prices will go up.

The USA response is very hypocritical. They support tons of countries with these policies. However anyone going against this kind of governmental behavior has support. I guess it really does all come down to economic and other interests.
