The Auto & Technik Museum at Sinsheim also has railroad engines on display IIRC, but this is a 90 minute or so drive from FRA. They also display many aircraft (Tu-144, Concorde, ...) but at awkward angles of attack. Same (low) quality of displaying a/c is true for the sister museum at Speyer.
A few years ago, I managed to visit both museum (Speyer was a return visit) within a single day flying into / out of FRA.

OK, save the FRA-TXL sector I'm now completely booked for this trip!

If you are looking for some nice prices, you can book one-way tickets with LH on wideroe.no (41 £ including taxes at the moment). They have scheduled A300 on the 13.30 departure and the 16.55 departure (i am on the later).

Quoting HT (Reply 49):
When will the *official* part be held ? Saturday or Sunday ?

With some people arriving at around 17.00 i guess Saturday will be more of a check-in at hotel, some dinner and then "hit the town".

As my mum's knee-op has been confirmed today to take place as foreseen, I booked my flights to FRA a moment ago.
Unfortunately I will attend only the FRA-meeting (on Sunday) but will not be able to join anybody on the LA flight or any activities in *downtown" Frankfurt on Saturday evening ..:

Arrive: 24-FEB LH 1005 from HAJ 1100h
Depart: 24-FEB LH 1008 to HAJ 1740h.

The fare for the 2030h departure was triple the fare I am paying now, while the 2155h departure was too late for me (starting to work between 0600 and 0700h the next morning).

See you in FRA,

Alright! LH526 and myself are booked on LAN Chile!

We're flying down to MAD on Friday and back up to FRA on Saturday! Looks like we're joining PlymSpotter and Ndebelebev on that flight!

Who'd have thought, we're even earning big LAN PASS and AAdvantage rewards on this trip. What a deal!

O.K. I've made my travel arrangements

Arriving Friday (morning) 10/22 US CLT-FRA
Departing Sunday (late morning) 10/24 US FRA-CLT
Staying at the Hilton Mainz (riverfront).

I guess I'll be missing the meet on Sunday, unless
it starts early. Otherwise, you can watch my plane
depart while I waive goodbye.

So, it looks like I'll participating in the activities
being planned for Saturday.

Whats best? Both days of course Big grin. A shame you decided on coming just for one day. Worried that two days at the airport will be too much? I am considering taking a trip to the museum in Sinsheim or/and Speyer on Saturday while waiting for the others too arrive. Would be nice to see all the rare planes again. Like the TU-144, IL-18, JU-52, AN-22, Concorde, Dassault Mercure etc. even if the displays are not the best. Since many people seems to arrive in the afternoon on Saturday i guess the main spotting day will be Sunday, so that would be the day to meet most of the people.

Great news. I don't think they would dare to change from the A300 now that two VIPs are flying with them  Silly.

There is still a couple of people we haven't heard from in a while. Actually, we haven't heard from them since the last thread. Anybody know if they are coming? I even think it was some of them that started the idea of this meet in the first place. I'll keep a lookout for them. I mean, how hard can it be to spot them here in London?  Silly

Is there any idea yet where and when to meet on Sunday ?
The upper level of Terminal 2 where restaurants (McD) and the entrance to Observation Deck are located comes to my mind. However, this location is popular also with local folks, so it might be crowded on a Sunday, especially if the weather is fine.
On the Observation Deck itself could be another option.

Has anyone travelled through Madrid Airport before. My gatwick flight lands at 11.30 local time and the LAN Chile flight leaves at 14.10. I have been looking at the Madrid webpage and it shows the incoming flight landing at terminal 4s , there is a 2km train shuttle to take me to terminal 4 for the LAN check in. I will only have hand luggage. Anyone any idea of the minimum check in time for the LAN flight. Might have to hot foot it through customs etc, wing it so to speak.

LAN check in

I'd say there's a 0% chance you have enough time to check in. From the arrival gate you should head directly to the departure gate, after checking in online on the LAN web site before you leave home. In Spain you don't stay airside after arrival like in Ireland or Germany, so you go through the ID check, then you're landside again and you have to go through security again.

I hope you make it on time... see you on the LAN flight!

Thanks, appreciate the input and help. Just to confirm that the check in for LAN Chile closes at 1.30, or 40 minutes prior to departure, which should give me 2 hours to get to check in assuming the gatwick flight lands on time.

For those staying here in Madrid, a.netter IBERIA747 and myself will probably join you on Friday evening, if possible at the airport. According to Bev's wishes, we may have dinner at the same restaurant of the a.net meet in 2005. This was a successful choice and it is located in the heart of the bars and restaurants area next to the Plaza de Santa Ana and the Puerta del Sol.

For F4phantom, there is enough time for the connection, just do the check-in online at the LAN's website.

Hopefully you don't get the CC-CQG frame on your LAN flight (keeping fingers crossed  Silly). This plane joined LAN's fleet last year on a short-term lease (due to plane shortage) and it is actually an old ex-Air Canada bird, with the same interiors of the previous operator (no PTVs, etc.). But anyway, it is still an A343! Recently, it was allocated on the MAD-FRA-MAD-SCL flights on the 4, 10, 12, 16, 20, 24 and 26 January. The original 4 LAN's A343 are CC-CQA, CC-CQC, CC-CQE and CC-CQF (2000 and 2001 planes).

Hmmmm - I might be able to come too. I'll be coming back from BOM that weekend, most like via FRA (I'm trying to avoid the dreaded LX A330 if at all possible  yuck  ) - either the Friday or Saturday - I think the BOM flight arrives in the morning sometime. So if it works out maybe I could stay overnight in FRA and fly home the next day. I vote for staying in the Sheraton or the Steigenberger.

I will check in on line, what advantage will that give me?

If you check-in online for the LAN flight, you can print your boarding pass at home, stay airside at the airport if you can and avoid having to clear security again. Who are you flying with from LGW ?

Hi, i am flying with British Airways.

That arrives at T4S in MAD (non-schengen). The LAN flight also departs from T4S. BA can through check onto LA, so if you can't check in on LAN online, tell the BA check-in person at LGW you have a continuing flight, they can through check you. You can stay in transit at MAD and go straight to the LAN departure gate.

www.lan.com says you can check in online for MAD-FRA, so you should be OK.

That sounds like a great idea - I am in need of some good cuisine!

Hmmmm - I might be able to come too. I'll be coming back from BOM that weekend, most like via FRA (I'm trying to avoid the dreaded LX A330 if at all possible ) - either the Friday or Saturday - I think the BOM flight arrives in the morning sometime. So if it works out maybe I could stay overnight in FRA and fly home the next day. I vote for staying in the Sheraton or the Steigenberger.

Sounds good, would be nice to see you again. Mines a double Vodka and Orange btw  Wink

Of course thats if everyone else who will be in MAD that evening doesn't mind eating there too. I seem to recall it was inexpensive but you got really good food and the Sangria was flowing!!!!

Only just over 3 weeks people.... Still time for more of you to join us....

What suggestions for the Saturday night do people have, perhaps a meal at a restaurant, and a few drinks afterwards?

I am always up for a meal  Smile. And i rarely pass on a chance for a few drinks afterwards either  Big grin

Most people are flying in on the 23rd. Seems we will meet up for dinner and a night on the town then. The spotting part will be on Sunday.

I'm flying in from YVR/YYZ on the 21st continuing on to DUS. I wouldn't mind coming down on the Sunday for spotting, will have to talk to my cousin first to see what his plans are though. If I do make it, where are you going to spot from?

So where are all you MAD people (no pun intended) sleeping? LH526 and I thought about just crashing at the airport (again, no pun intended) instead of a hotel. My budget is kind of tight at the moment.
