Quoting JGPH1A (Reply 93):
I'm sure it is - why do you imagine this would be of interest to me ?

I naturally assume that you are interested in such things  Wink

Quoting Ndebelebev (Reply 95):
Of course thats if everyone else who will be in MAD that evening doesn't mind eating there too. I seem to recall it was inexpensive but you got really good food and the Sangria was flowing!!!!

Sounds good to me  Smile

Quoting DYflyer (Reply 97):
I am always up for a meal . And i rarely pass on a chance for a few drinks afterwards either

I think this could be turning into a mini beer tour of Europe for me; Madrid, Frankfurt, Berlin, might have to slip a pint in at Brussels as well on the way back just to complete things  silly

Quoting ACDC8 (Reply 98):
If I do make it, where are you going to spot from?

I believe we will be spotting from the terrace on top of the terminal  Smile

Quoting Birdwatching (Reply 99):
So where are all you MAD people (no pun intended) sleeping? LH526 and I thought about just crashing at the airport (again, no pun intended) instead of a hotel. My budget is kind of tight at the moment.

I'm going to be sharing with Bev, know how you feel about a tight budget - I've spent all my money on flights again  Embarrassment Btw - I must reply to your PM, will do that shortly  Smile

Time is slowly counting down to this one, hopefully should be quite a good turnout Big grin

I am ready to check in on-line for the LAN flight. never checked in on line before. Presumably my computer will give me a boarding pass printed on paper which will be accepted at the departure gate. Normally when i check in at the airport i am given a boarding pass which is printed on card and then inserted into a machine at the departure gate.

Your bording pass will contain a bar code that will be scanned at the departure gate rather than reading the magnetic stripe. All other information is as on BP's issued at an airport.
Usually you also get a receipt printed along with the first BP.

Hello, FRA attendants,

I´am on the first interest list and followed the discussion partially.

I´am on leisure travel on Wednesday prior to the meet and with heavy biz around,
I will not be in FRA for the weekend or for a single day.

Have a nice time there and wish you good wheather,

Can we put a list up with the attendees flights and arrival times to get an idea of who is arriving and when?

I arrive on Thursday and leave on saturday at 9pm if there is some spotting planned for saturday midday-afternoon then I can meet you guys at the FRA viewing thingy, we arrange a time and a place to meet and I'll be there bright and early!

Bev and myself have sorted out accommodation for FRA, we shall be staying at the Comfort Hotel in the city centre, which I think is the same one as DYFlyer. Also, we all have to persuade JGPH1A to attend, although it would appear that he's still being made to sit in the naughty corner at present...  silly

I have also just added details of my arrival into MAD, as this will help those of us who are starting the meet a little further South  cool

Ok almost 1 week to go now!

I was checking FRA's website and they run individual tours of the airport (no advance booking required) for 5 euros per person, I am taking one on saturday, if any of you a.nutters are in FRA on saturday and wants to join in, then PM me!
I am planning to spend the rest of the day at the terrace (if it's open) or just wandering about.

More info

Looking forward to FRA

These tours use(d) to be quite interesting, although for photographers the disappointing fact is that one will not leave the coach / bus unlike one does at ZRH at its famous runway cross.

Lets get a list together of who will be in MAD on the friday evening, where everyone is staying and if you are interested in joining for a meal. This way we can arrange where it will be convenient for us all to meet.

In MAD on friday

Ndebelebev
PLYMspotter
Iberia747

Where staying in MAD

Ndebelebev-with friends
PLYMspotter-with friends
Iberia747-his apartment

Interested in joining for a meal in MAD

Ndebelebev
PLYMspotter
Iberia747

For the meal I think it was suggested The Magister as it proved a very popular choice at the MAD/LPA Meet. Will be a nice start to the weekend I think...

Bev xx

ps Here is a website for The Magister although its only in Spanish www.naturalbeer.net

I will take an ICE on friday morning to CGN and spend the day there wandering about, and on saturday I will be in FRA from around mid-day, if some a.nutters want to meet there then, like I said before I want to do one of the airport tours and spend some time in the terrace (weather permitting) Big grin

I'll be picking up both Dan and Bev at the airport since their flights arrive at the same terminal and with a time difference of just 40 minutes. Both of them are staying at my apartment that night so they can leave their stuff in my car while we spend the rest of the afternoon/evening in Madrid.

If anyone else needs to be picked up at the airport, just give us your flight info, although I guess the metro will be the smartest way for going downtown. Trying to park a car in Madrid during a Friday evening can be a torture.

It will be nice to see some familiar faces back in Madrid. Those who I haven't met before...will be a pleasure to see you in Madrid as well.

Looking forward to the weekend, hopefully the weather will be good to us. If anyone is familiar with Madrid terminal 4s, my flight inbound from LGW lands at 4s and the LAN Chile departs from 4s, i will check in on-line and have a boarding pass. My question is, do i need to go through passport and immigration control if i am staying in transit? Looking on some of the blogs people are very critical of the spanish efficiency, they say there are long queues for passport control etc, hopefully i will not need to join one.

That sounds like a good idea, I'm not sure about others, but I don't really know FRA very well landside, but at least that way many of us would already be together after the flight from MAD.

I'm really looking forwards to this meet now, I don't think it's struggled above freezing all day here in Birmingham, so fingers crossed that MAD will be at least a little warmer! 14 degrees and sunny is the forecast for Friday Big grin

While I cannot speak for Saturday as well as anything off-airport, I think on Sunday the meeting point should be in T2.
Main meeting point should be somewhere before security of Visitors Terrace. The area right before it can be a bit crowded resp. views are obstructed.
So my suggestion is: McDonalds seating area = Somewhere in front of the big glass wall facing the apron. Time: tba
Anyone arriving later (like me), should check McD's seating area for residual A.netters and then head onto the terrace.

Comments ?

I'm not going to be about much online before I leave though - I'm working again tonight and tomorrow night as far as I know, so tomorrow morning I will stay up for as long as possible when I get back and then sleep until just before I leave for work again at 21:30, then from work I'll go straight to BHX on the Friday morning for my flight to MAD.

The meeting place sounds like a good idea though, I'm sure as a student that I'll be able to locate a McDonalds  Wink I was thinking about spending time in the city on Sunday, but whichever, I'll head out to the airport to meet people first and check in for my LH flight to TXL later in the afternoon. I fly back through FRA for the return sector of my LAN flight on the 1st April, so I can have almost a whole day in the city then too. As for a time, is 10am too early, what is the best time for seeing the most interesting traffic at FRA?

Mid- to late morning: Departures of U.S. airlines to the U.S.
Around 1400h: CX, BI, FI (all departing from T2)

And LH all day long ... Big grin

Just want to make sure about meeting up with people
on Saturday. It will be in the T2 arrivals area timed with
the arrival of the Lan Chile flight?

Now we are talking about outside the baggage claim area,
as those already there will not have access to the inside part.
It will be in the general area just outside the automatic doors.

Hope this turns out to be simple, and see you all on Saturday.

Thanks Holger, so perhaps meeting as early as 10am is not vital, so, everybody - when would you like to meet, if suggestions are not forthcoming then shall we just assume 10am to be the meeting time?

Btw - will 300mm be enough zoom to cover the arrivals/departures from the viewing terrace? I've managed to fit my Sigma Bigma in (500mm), but it would be a lot easier if I wouldn't need it, because it's taking up half my bag and my old Canon 300mm lens is much smaller!

Although I don't know FRA well, I am sure that it will be outside of the baggage reclaim area, in a public spot where we can all access.

Safe travels to everyone starting their journeys, just 12 hours before I start mine Big grin

For those a/c parked at T2 you will be looking right down on them, making a wise-angle lens necessary.

I don't (yet) know which lenses are necessary, but rough distances for shooting pictures from the terrace is 500 meters to the first runway and another 500m to the parallel one.
Lets hope for westernly ops.

Taxiing traffic can also be closer.

As the meeting is coming closer I have some questions to the local spotters.

I am just wondering if both visitor terraces on terminal 1 and other on terminal 2 are open?
And does anybody know the photo position close to the S-Bahn station Zeppelinheim? Is it worth to go there?

Cya soon

I would, but I'm arriving late (on Lan Chile). If that's not too late, I'd gladly join you all. I have no accomodation, I've planned to crash at the airport (not literally).

Hey.

You can email me your mobile number through my profile if you want.

I'll be picking up Dan (Plymspotter) and Bev (Ndebelebev) at the airport just after 1 pm so we will spend the rest of the day together, as well as Saturday morning. If we can contact you when you're here then we can tell you how to meet us.

Saludos.

Right, I'll be taking the big lens out then, there just isn't room for it if I'm hardly going to need it. I have just checked in for the LAN flight - seat 32L, so it seems we're all on the right hand side so far! I will be wearing a blackish coat, probably a black jumper or T-shirt underneath and jeans, and I have rather long brown/gingery hair - so look out for this person around MAD and FRA over the weekend  Wink

Ok great, I'm checked-in for the FRAMAD now. Seat 33A. I'm not checked in for Saturday yet. Will do that tomorrow.

That would be perfect, I'm kind of alone now, LH526 has a cold and he might not be able to come. Alfonso, te he mandado un mensaje con mi numero, si me das tu numero te llamo despues de llegar ok?

So you're not wearing any underwear?
