Just as a side note to the Chernobyl tour, has anyone used THIS website for booking flights before? They seem to offer many more flights than Opodo, with small carriers on the likes of Yak 40s - sounds very interesting and fun! I found a Kiev to Odessa flight for about £37/$70 on the Yak 40, can't remember the airline though.

Last week I got in the car after finishing work, turned the engine on and the radio came on.... guess which song was playing??

"Relax - take it e-e-eeasy" !!

I burst out laughing, thinking back to hydropark and how every club and bar seemed to be playing that song constantly. I did some research when I got home - the song is by Mika, it was his first ever single, and was released in the Uk last year, it flopped and failed to chart. However it was released in Europe in the summer and was number one in Poland (and im guessing ukraine!). mika is re-releasing the song in the UK this month now that he is more well known. Looks like I will be hearing it a lot in the coming months :S

I always thought it was an old 70s song, didnt realise it was a new release!

It would sure be nice to see the my homeland for once. Especially to see these cities that i always learned about during my 8 years of Ukrainian immersion schooling!

I don't know witch dates would work out for me in July. It really depends on the others. I am the "fresh meat" in my department, and also the only one without children, so i don't have first picks on vacation in July. We might get two new persons this summer as the apprentice is finished this spring and one colleague will retire, but i can't plan with that as a base. I will try to rush the others to make decisions, but i don't expect any answers until at least January/February.

But we seems to have another crash too. The days Jürgen can doesn't work out for Judeth.

I might be able to postpone the vacation in the US so we can go the weekend of 12/13 July, but that doesn't help you?

What is the problem with the weekend of the 28th/29th of June? I can make that (I'm just not sure if we can do the tour on saturday, because I'm not sure that I can fly in on friday). It seems like everyone in the list can make that.

Well, it is difficult to say when in July it would fit. Based on last years vacations, my impression is that it would be easier in the first half of July. Since Judeth can't the weekend before, that would probably be the best weekend. I will try to hear if my colleagues have anything planned yet today.

I'm going to have a tough time getting away no matter what date we choose so the 28th-29th of June will be fine if that's what works. Let's hope global warming hits hard in the Ukraine this year. Like Rune I'm going to be one of the most junior people in the department and since I am in my first year don't even have any vacation time coming. So it will be a matter of trying to bid with days off and trading out a few to make it happen.

And there is one more rental flat in the same house I believe, this time some 1 roomed 3 bedded for 50 usd per night, so there can be even more of us at one place. And of course, if anyone feels an urge to get a VIP apartement, feel free to book it :P

I know, i will probably get killed for mentioning this on this site. I talked to the other two colleagues today, and both of them also indicate they want to start their vacations in the second half of July. So i am saying 95% certain the second week in July (6.-13th) should work for me. I still vote for June as that is sure to work, but if July fits better for the rest i should be able to make that too.

I have done a little fare-searcing today, and it seems like it would take me a day and a half to get to Yalta. Even if i fly all the way down to Simferopol it is going to take me almost 24 hours from the time i leave home until i am at the hotel. It is a little to much time to get to Yalta for just a couple of days. Since i want to see Odessa just as much as Yalta, i am leaning towards just going there instead. If everybody is going to Yalta i'll come too, but otherwise i think i prefer to just go to Odessa.

So basically Judith is the only one that can't make it on the weekend of the 6th. The last weekend of june might be problematic for me if I have an exam that friday

Yep! Seems like she is the only one who can't that weekend, and you are the only one who have problems with the weekend before and after. Any chance you two can come to a compromise? Otherwise i guess we'll have to have a vote over the three weekends.

I'm going to try and do both. It's a lot farther for me to come than you.

I only have one week vacation on this occasion. Flying in to Ukraine on Saturday or Sunday the weekend before the visit to Chernobyl . It seems the plan is to gather in Kiev on Thursday. It is less time than i prefer to do both. Also less time than i prefer if i am going to "waste" one and a half day to get to Yalta. I guess it is a good excuse for another trip to Ukraine on a later occasion. Big grin

I'm open for suggestion. As I posted in another thread, I'm in the process of fighting my way through Pripyat as we speak!
Lets just make sure that when we do get there this year we will get to Chernobyl.

Thank you for bringing it up, yes, I also have to start planning with specific dates now. It would be great if we could settle this sometime soon.

It seems like there is no weekend that fits everyone, so i guess we have to take a vote. I agree. It's time to settle the dates. It seems like everyone at work want to take vacation second half of July (witch obviously isn't going to work), so some of them might have to take vacation earlier. If we decide on a weekend in July, and they list their vacation before me, i might not get time off.

Last weekend in June would be best for me. Don't forget, you ARE going to Odessa first Big grin. Is Yirina joining us this year?
