NFL Week 12. How'd Your Team Do?

Sun Nov 25, 2007 9:11 pm

Week @12 is underway, as the playoff picture starts to take shape.

The Browns have won 5 of their last 6, with maybe their most complete game of the year, in a 27-17 win over the Houston Texans. Three players of the game today: Jamal Lewis had a great day, with 134 yards on 29 carries and 1 TD, and wore down the Texans' in the seconed half; Kellen Winslow was absolutely spectacular, with 10 catches for 107 yards and a TD, making some brilliant grabs today; and backup cornerback Brandon McDonald, a rookie from Memphis, held Andre Johnson to 3 catches for 37 yards, and picked off a pass early in the 4th quarter. Johnson was a non-factor. And D.A. had another extremely steady day, going 24-35 for 253 yards, 2 TD and one INT. All in all an impressive performance against a vastly improved Texans team.

With Tennessee going down today, the Browns are now on the inside for a playoff spot. Next week, if they win at Arizona, and if Pittsburgh, as expected, loses to the Pats, they'd be tied for first place, and really putting some pressure on the Steelers. This team IS for real.

How did it go for your club?

Seattle needed a last second goal line stand to hold off the Saint Louis Rams, and they won 24-19.

At least they won, that's all I can ask.

Green Bay won on Thursday. 10-1...who would have thunk it?

However, the team had better sort a few things on defense out before the Dallas game next week, or the Cowgirls will run rampant.

Ferotte handed that one away. Seattle really came on in the second half after being absent for the better part of the first. Hasslebeck looked pretty good despite the injury.

The Giants played their worst game of the year today.  Angry (They lost 41-17)

Interceptions, penalties, dropped balls, bad defense, and bad offense.

That was a hideous game. I have Eli in my pool, and up until that late TD he was hovering around 0 fantasy points. There were a couple of ill advised throws in there, and they made him pay for it! They got what they deserved today.

NFC game of year so far, and its on the NFL network which I understand most of the nation doesn't have..bar business should be brisk on Thursday night.

Meanwhile, back to the topic on hand, the 49ers just scored their first TD in 12 quarters against, yep the Cardinals.

Since last post..the 49ers are looking like Super Bowl champs ..now 17-7 over the Cardinals who apparently cannot handle being in a playoff race. (Lets see if the Cardinals can turn in around in the next three quarters)

Here's a question:

Is it time for the NY Giants to start looking for a SOLID QB?
What do you think of the Eli Manning?

Eli Manning completed 21 of 49 with 4 INT. 3 of them were returned for TDs.

GO BROWNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sitting here waiting for Eagles-Pats to start...hoping for my Eagles to pull off miracle upset of the year in the NFL...even though I hate the Patriots more than just about any other team in the NFL outside the 3 other teams in the NFC East, it just doesn't look like an upset will be in the cards tonight...nonetheless, I'll watch and hope for the best...

Saints got the offense going in the third quarter, and pulled away from the Panthers, 31-6...Brees looked like the Brees of last year, 3 TD's throwing, and running for another.

The Bears came back from 14 down, and kicked a FG to beat Denver in OT 37-34.

Nice late fourth quarter 14-point comeback by the Bears to force OT...of course the moronic Broncos pretty much deserved it for gift-wrapping Hester two TD returns.

And Gould just kicked an OT FG, Bears win 34-31.

3:01 left in the 2nd quarter...EAGLES 21, Patriots 17...the Patriots look somewhat lost defensively and the Eagles offense is clicking perfectly with AJ Feeley at the helm...if it wasnt for that ugly pick-six at the beginning, we'd have a two possession lead on them now....

Wow. I'll bet AJ Feeley wishes he had that throw back.....Pats 31, Eagles 28 with 3 mins left.

Even if NE pulls this out, the Eagles have kicked ass. But for two unfortunate interceptions, Feeley shredded the Pats defense all night.

Sick to my stomach right now...Feeley had a bad start, bad finish, but in between was amazing...we basically owned that game and should have a W right now...also be interesting to see what the NFL does on the Patriots touchdown late in the 2nd quarter that clearly was not a reception as the receiver did not stay inbounds...refs ruled it a touchdown and it was not reviewed...*sigh*

It was not reviewed because it clearly was a touchdown. One knee = two feet.

Good game by the Eagles, though.

That call would have cost them the game if they had lost. Moss is notorious for pushing off, but didn't even touch the defender.

I defenitely think the Eagles should keep Feeley over McNabb at this point... just my opinion though. Seems the only tough game NE has left is Steelers in week 14.

My Niners finally won.... 3-8 (in the NFC that still gives them a chance)  Smile

I disagree with that entirely. Now, if you had said after last weeks loss to the Jets I would have agreed. Tonights game was entirely the result of some idiot in Pittsburgh who decided to re-sod the field less than 48 hours before game time.

This week's game was a crap shoot, that field was awful. Now I don't disagree that NE will likely crush the Steelers, but it was last week's game that proved the Steelers are not as good as many people seemed to think, as well as their loss to Arizona, not this weeks game. And I say all this as a die hard Steelers fan.

See the Louisiana Bayu without leaving your back yard!!

That game was hilarious!! How about that 38-yard punt where the ball just sunk some 4 inches into the water-laden turf at the MIA 48 yard line? That was funny as hell, especially from the field perspective!! The ball just dropped out of the sky and stuck right there in the turf! Then we finally kicked the game-winning field-goal, the only points in the game. I am not sure if the Dolphins were bummed that they lost, or relieved from playing in the swamp...

Probably both, but even with that win, the Steelers did not look that impressive, but come on, would Tom Brady be able to completely dismantle an opposing team in those conditions? As good as he may be, I don't think so...

Horrible? Horrible isn't even the word for it IMO. The commentators were calling it "dangerous!!" That field was a twisted/broken ankle waiting to happen. Thankfully that didn't happen, but Williams is out now with a messed up shoulder after the Steelers defender Stepped on him going after the ball...

That game was still fun to watch, even if the Steelers would have lossed. Porter had a nice outing; he had a couple of plays and intercepted Big Ben earlier on...

One question though. What was up with that pass interference call on Heath Miller??? One, that looked like it occurred near the line of scrimmage, and B, the ball wasn't even thrown to him to begin with, and C, it looked like he was the one being interfered. I dunno. I really am not trying to sound bias here. We did make some stupid mistakes in that game that could very well have cost us points, but I don't think that was one of them...

If not for those mistakes, the score could have been 17-0. I believe Davenport was penalized that negated a 3rd down conversion or two, and then what happened on the next play? A fizzle on the O-line, resulting in a sack on Big Ben. We need to fix that. They're still getting pressure on Big Ben at the worst times...

Maybe I'll let that one slide tho considering the hazardous playing field...

One last statement...

Sean Taylor, you will be missed... How horrible!! My heart goes out to his family and his teammates  crying

Rest in peace, mate

Hey Steelers83, is the "big story" in Pittsburgh today the game istelf, or how embarrassing the field conditions were? I have rarely seen worse conditions in the day of the "modern" field, which, rarely, has any dirt in it, and usually holds up well in extreme conditions. All we needed was a lot more mud, and it would have been like a game in the mid-60's.

Somewhere stored away, I have a book from the early 70's on the history of the NFL, and the front cover is a picture of the 1965 NFL Championship game between the Browns and Packers. The players are just caked in mud, and you can't tell who plays for the Browns and who plays for the Pack. Now, that was football the way it SHOULD be played.  Big grin

Hey Steelers83, is the "big story" in Pittsburgh today the game istelf, or how embarrassing the field conditions were?

Believe it or not the field conditions are the bigger story... actually I take it back -- the ONLY story pretty much. The Rooneys are considering fieldturf for next season. They will keep the existing sod for the rest of the season, but then consider other options like artificial fieldturf...

I have a book from the early 70's on the history of the NFL, and the front cover is a picture of the 1965 NFL Championship game between the Browns and Packers. The players are just caked in mud, and you can't tell who plays for the Browns and who plays for the Pack. Now, that was football the way it SHOULD be played.

Amen to that!!

Heck, that was a fun game to watch nonetheless... The announcers were like, "And Hines makes his way down to the 12-yardline... I think... I guess... who knows..." etc...

How about that punt in the 3rd quarter that stuck in the muck at the MIA 48? That had me cracking up! You should check out the sports columns on the postgazette, especially Gene Collier's column when he was talking about the field position after each play.

www.postgazette.com go to the sports tab, and look for Gene Collier, for anyone looking for a good laugh.  Smile

THere should also be the stories about the field turf as well

No. The Steelers should have crushed Miami in those conditions. Both the Pats and the Steelers should be accustomed to playing in inclement weather.

That wasn't inclement weather. That was a dangerous field where the turf was actually coming up. The players couldn't even move on that field. Did you see that ball bury itself in the field? Show me another game where the field was been so bad that the ball half buries itself in the field.

You know a miracle did happen that night? Nobody twisted, sprained, or broke their ankles!!!

I think Superman and the Incredible Hulk would have had difficulty playing in that muck that was known as Heinz Field...

Nonetheless, Ben did complete 15 passes in a row but could not score a single touchdown?

Still Perfect!!!

Zero wins and on our way to nothing but losses. Winning is overrated. I was concerned for a while, but the Steelers came through for me in the end.
It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems with just potatoes.
