Just an update, I had to take my name off of the list for this year. I agreed verbally with a colleague whos wife is due the week of the 6th of April to take over his detail for him so he may be with her for their first child. Truth be told I was not thinking when I agreed, and did not realize my mistake until I got a P.M from Steven yesterday. I'll just have to make it out there later this Spring or God forbid Summer in the heat.

To everyone going, have a safe trip and DO NOT BET ON COLLEGE BASKETBALL

We're planning on betting on something stupider, NHL games.  duck  To date, I'm 0-4 on NHL bets. College Football I'm 1 for 1 (Bet on Georgia beating GA Tech. In hindsight, I wished I would have bet on Arkansas beating LSU, as I actually contemplated betting on that game as well as Tennessee-Kentucky.) I'm thinking about finally taking the plunge and bet on the horses.

With you having to fold, you know you risk having a thread named in your honor.....  devil

Just to throw this out there, would anyone be up for an Atlantic City Meet in the Fall? I'm thinking about taking a trip up there in either September or October. I figure for that for those of us on the East Coast getting together in A.C. wouldn't be as rough on us as it is going to Vegas. Plus folks that maybe couldn't make it out to LAS could attend this meet. The only hitch is the lack of service into ACY. ASA flies ATL-ACY on a CRJ and NK flies there from Florida and MYR. So folks would have to either fly into PHL or EWR and trek down from those airports (There is a commuter rail service from Philly to A.C. that is $8 pp), I didn't really look at ground transportation from EWR.

Sad Sorry guys and gals... with every spare cent going to the wedding, I just can't afford to make it this year. Hopefully there will be another event in a few months that I can make.

I work in New Jersey, so I have to fly out that way often. If I was already scheduled to be in NJ, I would consider extending my stay over the weekend and meeting up with you guys.
But that was when I ruled the world

Why not do a split ACY/EWR spotting trip?

Right now, I still have no idea where I going yet. I'm debating between going to Mississippi (Gulfport/Biloxi or Tunica), A.C., or Vegas, as factoring in the room rates, airfares, transportation, it's practically a wash. While I could drive to Tunica or to the Gulfport/Biloxi area and save on airfare, driving 6-7+ hours after working that day would put me in at my destination sometime between 11 pm and Midnight, as I would probably be leaving here in the late afternoon and I would definitely have to factor in rush hour traffic in.

Back on topic, sometime this weekend, I will be contacting those who are on the "The List" or on the "Working On It" list who haven't provided an update (I know last week I said I was going to do it last weekend, but I forgot.). I'm planning on having The List (for the most part) firmed up by the first week of March and culling the "Working On It" list down to the ones whose attendance is pending on work schedules. I'll update The List as needed. From there, we'll get the contact list put together.

I may hold off on reserving a rental car until we have The List firmed up.

If I go to Biloxi, I know I'm not going to stay at the Grand Biloxi. Even with my Total Rewards rate, for the dates I'm considering, they want $647 (before taxes)for three nights. By comparison, I can get the same amount of nights in a GO Luxury Room with a Strip View at the Flamingo for $2 less. I can get a premium suite at the Rio for $27 less than what it would cost me to stay at Harrah's property in Biloxi. Even the rooms at the three properties they have in Tunica are significantly cheaper that the Grand Biloxi.

I can get a room (before taxes) at the Hard Rock in Biloxi for $517, the IP Biloxi for $419.97, and the Palace for $265.44 (with taxes). So if I do go down there, I'll probably end up at the Palace, which before Katrina was a fairly nice place, as my grandparents went there a few times. I may try to see what kind of package deal (room+airfare) I can snag to GPT.

I'm still deciding where I'm going to go. If I go to Vegas, I may stay at the Golden Nugget and just hang out Downtown. You ask me one day, I might say I'm going to Vegas; ask another, it may be A.C. or Tunica. I may not even decide on where I'm going until July or even August. It may just boil down on what city has the cheapest airfare.
