Your Home On Google Earth

Thu Dec 27, 2007 6:18 pm

I stay near the bottom of a valley. The dense bushland surrounding our neighbourhood is home to vervet monkeys and they can be quite a pest at times. You can often see them sitting on people's rooftops; one actually came into our house once!

I live just outside a town approximately 20 minutes from Central London. The dense trees and bushes surrounding it are unfortunately not home to monkeys, but instead little chavs who ride around said woodland on unlicensed motorbikes, which, like your monkeys, makes them quite a pest. One of them actually came into my house too, and stole my Playstation. Little git.

So I guess no peaceful country living for you then?

To be fair it's only once in a while... But they can certainly ruin a quiet Summer's evening yes!

Once upon a time, the house I lived in was visible via Google Earth. The resolution was too great, but I could at least recognize things like the shed in the back yard and my car in the driveway. Then, more up to date photos were added, and my entire neighborhood was obscured by clouds.  grumpy

I tried to find my parents house, but the photos for that area are very low resolution, so they are practically useless (the photos, not my parents  Wink ).
I lift things up and put them down.

My house is tucked away nicely just off the main street of the town. It's all going to change soon as the golf course which is partially visible has been sold, and a huge shopping/housing complex is planned for the site.

No monkeys here either. This Google Earth image is at least more than 2 years old - the 2m (6.6ft) fence that was erected in our front yard is not visible on this image.

It's of course my building in the apartment complex. The entire left side of the picture still today is empty and will be for who knows how long. HP has a large facility and owns the surrounding areas. However to the upper right of the intersection there is yet another new housing development. Whats most interesting though is that no more then 5 years ago, that intersection was a rural four way stop sign.

Hmmm, can I suggest the use of a shotgun for dispatching both vermin?  devil

My University house, situated on Glendower Road - not a bad area I suppose, and there are some great parks and open spaces nearbye, but it's a long way from the open countryside which I much prefer;

My family home, on Leat Walk. Great area, have the green opposite our house and then fields and then Dartmoor, so lots of fresh air and peace and quiet.

Our house in Spain on Cala Traumontana, where I would much rather be right now, as I look outside the window from home and can hardly see the road outside due to lashing rain and fog.  grumpy

Well I've had one for many years, but I think she finally got the message...  Wow! It's a nice city, the only problem is the poor transport to and from it, also consider yourself in the minority of people who know that it actually exists and where it is in the UK, most people don't have a clue!

Along with the spirits listed above, we're having 3 bushels of oysters, four or five BBQed Boston-butts, ten pounds of top-sirlion cut into bite sized pieces, marinated and grilled to perfection, at least two hams, and tons of other food.

We tend to do it up right for New Years!!

There it is-just west of the main runway. The house with the tennis court on the east side of the runway is directly across from us. The site to the north is now being built on. Much to the annoyance of my parents, the neighbors decided to build right on the southeast corner of their lot-right behind our residence. We're now planting ironwood and other native vegetation to screen out their house from our property. The hanger was an addition that we built not long after purchasing the house and is tailored to our needs. The east end of the house is a guest casita, separated from the main house by a breezeway. The roof of the casita is reinforced and serves as an observation deck-really neat as you can see the entire airfield from up there.

I love the sounds of airplanes in the morning!
