Ten tickets and 3 crashes in 2 years? OMG! If my sons will behave like this, I won't let them even look at a car.

Back to the topic, I still pay way too much, roughly $ 3 k/year for a 06' G6 and 96' Stratus combo.

But, I hit a deer and they just payed out $4400 (today actually) so it's about time I get some of my money back.  Big grin

I pay about $950 a year for full coverage on a Buick LeSabre and a Dodge Ram pickup.... That covers both me and my wife.... There are some advantages to getting older....

Actually, no. Hitting a deer is a "comprehensive" claim and looked at as and "act of God". They can't raise your rates for it, only if it's a "collision" claim. This is my second deer too, I have bad luck.

For full coverage on my 2003 Dodge Stratus, I pay about $1300 a year through Drive from Progressive. I remember paying that much a year in the past for minimum coverage on clunkers when I was in my 20s.

For coverage of my '99 Grand Cherokee, its about $550 a year. It's pretty low considering I am a 18 year old male. Oh well, lucky me.

About $2000/year for full coverage on a 2006 VW Golf GTI. No tickets, no accidents, only 25+ y/o drivers, but still too expensive IMHO ...

I know my rates dropped some when I turned 21 and 25, but I don't recall the rates dropping when I turned 30, as I'm pretty much paying the same rates I was 2 years ago. It really may depend from state to state or company to company.

Here in Aussie if your under 20 everyone seems to look at you as a hoon/boy racer lol so insurance is expensive as hell!

Im paying AUD$1200 a year for a 2004 Mitsubishi Magna and if i write it off its insured up to 20k

Also got gap gover, free window replacement and roadside assistance discount with that.

Not too bad, some friends are paying AUD$3,000 a year.

Well, I always hear that when you turn 21 rates go down some, but 25 was the big one. I never saw that. Here in MN, it seems that if your young and a male, your rates are pretty high, especially compared to females of the same age. I don't know about 30 as a cutoff, just seems once you reach 30ish, insurance rates become civilized. I'm 29, and my new rates are finally normal.

I have a 1999 Peugeot 306 XSi 2.0 in London, and it costs about £450 per year for insurance (car is in group 11). Considering that I have been in the UK for less than 2 years (started off as a "new driver"), I think it is quite reasonable. If I had a 1.4L version of the same car, my insurance would be about £100 cheaper.

The funny thing is that my insurance has gone down almost by 40% just by moving to North London from Manchester! I was expecting my premiums to go up - but I guess there isn't much demand for shitbox cars like mine when there is a Bentley and an Aston Martin a few doors down...

When I lived in Toronto, I paid about $2200 for my 2000 Nissan Maxima. My premium went down by almost 40% when I turned 25. I had to claim twice, both accidents were 0% at fault - car hit from behind and almost written off twice in winter. For heavens sake people, get winter tyres (or tires)!!!! It is far, far safer driving in the UK - I actually enjoy it.

Depends on your post code. Majority of Manchester is a crim ridden shithole where even the wheelie bins are on bricks so it's not surprising the your premium has dropped moving to N London which is, in general, a good side of London to live on.

I pay $865 per year for a 1997 Mitsubishi Galant VR series. Due to my type of car, its considered a luxary vehicle cause of its rare interior, so I'm getting of VERY lightly with insurance costs for me, as other insurance companys gave me prices between $1500 and $3000

That's probably pretty much dead on accurate, as the crime stats (especially in regards to auto thefts) in a Post/ZIP code do contribute to the rates in a given area.

The type of car does as well. The type of car I drive (Dodge Stratus), has slightly higher rates in general compared to other cars of a similar size. This is due to the Stratus having being among the most commonly stolen cars in the US for a several years now. In addition, the way the car is designed in regards to crumple zones leads to them being totaled by the insurance company after an accident.

Actually, I lived in both a nice area of Manchester (Chorlton-cum-Hardy M16), and a well dodgy one (Wythenshawe M23) and the premiums were the same. However, in Warrington, 15 miles to the west they are half of what they are in Manc.

For the 2006 GMC Envoy $440 every six months.

For the 2002 Ford SuperDuty $580 every six months.

For the 2008 Cadillac $630 every six months (that's the quote from State Farm, the Cadillac is in the works).

Welcome to Alaska . . . where we pay much higher rates because morons that live in the snow up here still can't figure out how to drive in it . . .

I haven't ever had a ticket or an accident, neither has Jackie. Can't wait to see what happens when we add #1 daughter to the insurance rates in the spring . . .  faint

FYI, when I was on the East Coast in the late 1990s, my insurance rates were a third of what they are here.

This is the ONLY reason they should allow illegals to get drivers licenses. If they were licensed, at least some of them would probably get insurance. As it is, none of them are insured. I'm not in favor of illegal immigrants getting any sort of government benefits, but until the government does something about this problem, legal residents will continue to pay for the damage done by illegals driving without insurance. Around here, your UM coverage is probably the most important.

They rear ended me... three of them took off... I gave pursuit... caught one ...and held him until the police arrived. He ratted out his two buddies and they were charged for a couple of minor offenses.

The damage to my truck was artifical, but their minivan incurred significant damage to the front bumper, lights and hood.

Unfortunately thats what has to be paid when you're 17 driving a 1.6!!! There should be around £800 on the way back though after I passed another driving course. Luckily my mother has paid for it, as she did for my brother.  Big grin

I was quoted £14000 from one company, I nearly died laughing down the phone!!! My most common quote was around £7000, so it was cheap in comparison! It's no wonder you get so many assholes driving around with no insurance!

So the damage was fake?  duck

I believe the word you were looking for is superficial.

Around here, your UM coverage is probably the most important.

Same here in the Atlanta area as well. There seems to be on an almost monthly basis a news report of someone getting seriously injured or killed in an accident where the other driver either was or was suspected of being an illegal immigrant driving without a license and/or insurance. And in some of those cases, they hightailed it back to Mexico ASAP.

Quoting MaidensGator (Reply 41):

This is the ONLY reason they should allow illegals to get drivers licenses. If they were licensed, at least some of them would probably get insurance. As it is, none of them are insured.

Very few of them get their vehicles through a car dealer. The majority of them buy them from individuals, as in most states, private sales do not require showing proof of insurance or even a driver's license. I'm sure there are some shade tree lots that do some back room deals on vehicles.

Quoting RobK (Reply 40):

LOL!! So how did you know they were illegal immigrants then? Did they jump out of the car saying "by the way, we're illegal immigrants, and we're off now, cya!" or what ?

If someone gets in a wreck and then bails from the scene, chances are they either a.) Have an outstanding warrant b.) Are in the country illegally c.) Do not have a license (Which tends to go hand and hand with a. or b. at times) or d.) Do not have insurance.

Here in Georgia, the state several years back rolled out an insurance database in which insurance companies are supposed to report lapsed policies, the number of uninsured drivers has dropped dramatically. While it hasn't completed stopped folks from driving without insurance (There are folks who get a policy in order to get a tag, and once they get the tag, they will either cancel the policy or not make payments on the premium.).

There's also the issue of license fraud, where someone will use fake documents in order to obtain a legal driver's license. This is very common in the issuance of driver's licenses to illegal immigrants. There's been news stories on how easy it is to obtain counterfeit documents on the black market in order to procure a legal license.

My car insurance costs me $67 a month. It went up about $2 dollars a month earlier this year.

$3200 yearly, for full coverage with Esurance.

You must be in a high risk category. Volvo’s have one of the lowest theft rates, they are basically stolen for their parts, not by some kids out for a joyride.

I pay just about that for a 2002 Volvo XC70, a 2004 Volvo S-80, house insurance and a 5 million dollar personal excess liability policy and I live in Southwestern Connecticut, not exactly a low rate area

I will admit that my wife worked for and took early retirement from the parent company of our insurance carrier.

In Connecticut and New York, you have to show proof of insurance when you register your car and get license plates, I would assume most other states also require proof of insurance to register the car..

But some also just make the first payment on the policy to get the insurance card, and then keep driving after the policy is cancelled, and that’s if they even bother to register the car, some just grab someone else’s license plates and drive on them.

My next door neighbor’s son is a police officer in my town and he has told me he has stopped numerous cars and found they are not insured or properly registered. Automatic towing off the streets by a private towing company and cash is required if they want their cars back besides the ticket from the police.
