Good discussion so far. ilikeyyc can vouch for the spartan range here in MIA, but maybe he can add some more to it. My two cents would be to have it at BHM unless we can find something nicer. We can hit any watering hole on Friday, we can have dinner at any place on Saturday night, but the main purpose of the meet, aside form social gathering is to shoot. And that should be done at a place that is comfortable and practical.

If it is at BHM this year, I will be driving, as I would like to bring several other rifles. If that is the case I can give someone in FL a ride up as well.

I would like to drive so I can bring some items that would really be better suited to a C-130 than a 737 simply because of the sheer number. It looks like it's right at 1,000 miles from MAF to BHM though. How far is it from MIA to BHM? If it's 1k and you're driving I don't want to look like a weenie because I didn't drive.

Another idea I had was to drive to DFW and hook up with MDorBust for the rest of the trip. I just don't know though, I like to fly and it's a very quick trip from MAF to BHM. As I recall, I left at about 6:30 and got there at about 11:00 last time.

816 miles. 13 hours.

With deviations to use major highways. I got pinched last year and got hammered by the fine and attorney's fees.

You don't pay a fine and take the points. I wasn't contesting it, I didn't want the points.

That is why if I drive up to BHM I will stay on the main hughways. Don't want to go through a small town with enough weapons and ammo to start a war.

It's about eleven hours straight shot on 20 from DFW to BHM.

That's the Yeep time. Last year in the wifes Envoy I did it in about 9 1/2. It's about 650 miles. Factor in some time for traffic, gas stops, and of course... bio breaks. The yeeps smaller gas tank (and 70mph cruising speed) meant it required more stops for fuel, and a longer time on the road.

It might be nice to set up a reloading bench (or 3) in it and just back it up to the firing line at the range! You could use the slide-out ramp to make it easy using the 2-wheeler cart to get "supplies" in and out of it!

Fly BOS-ATL get a ride, or DFW, or MIA, they are probably cheaper. Where there is a will, there is a way.

Does BOS area not have any public ranges? Air Tran flies to ATL fairly inexpensively and it's only an hour and a half drive. Plenty of us leave from ATL to drive there.

Is everyone cool with BHM for this year?

The range down here is booked through the begining of April. This is the best time of the year to have a shoot down here. So if you all want, we can plan on that. Even in OCT, the weather is hot, humid, and the skeeters enjoy in-flight refueling.
