Don't know what you're talking about... I genuinely am a commuter in the know... I'm sure most commuters know that The Class 377 Electrostar electric multiple units were built by Bombardier Transportation (previously ADtranz) at their Derby Works, from 2001 to 2005. The Electrostar family, which also includes Classes 357, 375 and 376, is the most numerous type of EMU built in the post-privatisation period of Britain's railways.

The units are found working suburban services in south London, and rural commuter services to Sussex, Kent and the South Coast, on which they replaced the old 4Cig and 4Vep slam-door stock. Although built in the early 2000s the new units suffered from a plagued introduction: their higher power consumption compared to the slam-door Mark 1-based stock that they replaced led to major upgrades being required to the 750V DC third rail power supply used in the Southern region.[citation needed] The collapse of Railtrack following the Hatfield accident further delayed this upgrade work and the new stock did not begin appearing until 2003.

No? Ok, just me then  biggrin

Well, how did you think people were supposed to make "Romanes eunt domus!" I mean "Romani ite domum!" happen?! I'll admit they had a great deal more in terms of divine intervention going on back in those days, but logistics weren't all that often included in the deal. Save for that walking-on-water business, that is.

Matt. 12 v1-3. "And lo, Jesus said unto his Disciples, "Let us go unto Nazareth, and speak forth unto the multitudes". And they did go, and yet they reached not Nazareth, nor Galilee, nor even the Plains of Moab, for verily there did fall a great plague of leaves upon the line, and they did cry woe, for they were the wrong kind of leaves. And the face of the LORD did turn from them, and they were banished unto that place where there is wailing and gnashing of teeth, that place being call-ed Didcot Parkway. And they did call forth unto the Virgin crying woe unto us, but the Virgin did answer them saying "In order to service your call better, our customer service staff have been relocated to Bangalore. The next available operator will be available in...178...years time. Thank you for holding. This call is charged at 97 pence per minute".

some nasty person might steal his money and identity... Well, identity anyway...

Hehe. Would you steal that identity ? Not what one might call a "desirable property"  rotfl

They should have called National Rail Enquires or Train Tracker!

It's quite ironic all this talk of people stealing my identity in my welcome back thread!

Tell me though; does double jeopardy apply here at airliners in relation to getting bans?

The next available operator will be available in...178...years time. Thank you for holding. This call is charged at 97 pence per minute".

And then Virgin lost the franchise and First TransPennine Express took over with their UK only Call Centres charged at local rate. But alas, their silly little trains were nothing compared with the superior Virgin product...  duck  sorry Alex  biggrin

I'm sure I have an old stone tablet timetable that clearly states on the back, "To summons the guru of the 'Holy Rail' franchise sacrifice two chickens and your first born". Of course even then you'd have to wait to be connected for times upwards of thirty minutes.

Quite funny to think Rail Enquiries is based in Tonbridge these days. Is this the holy land?

Isn't that the thing you use every night to cover yourself when you sleep on/under the railway bridge ?  Wink

Only for Banco. Apparently the largest faux-Victorian mock ironette conservatory in Britain is in Tunbridge - Banco makes a yearly pilgrimage there to worship it.
