what the hell is a steriotypical austrian?

He can't stand Czechs, Slovaks, Hungarians, Italians nad Slovenes and most likely believes the Iron Curtain wasn't such a bad thing after all.

I love Prague and the Czechs.  Smile I lived in Prague for almost 5 months. Wonderful place.

I also think Slovenia is an amazing place. Very friendly. The "Tolar" went a long way.

Then again I don't know how anyone could not like Austria either. It's not like it's Texas or anything.
I bought a Venus Fly Trap today and was going to name it "Republican" but the fly trap is beneficial to the environment.

Ahem. The correct mode of address is "Supreme and Omnipotent Oligarch, Oh Most Revered And Wondrous One". Kindly use it in future.  snooty

Although I do have nasty net curtains (not by choice, they came with the flat), the frilly blouses are only by special arrangement and cost extra.

Hmm I'll give you three:

1- how about the biggest open air party of Europe? http://www.donauinselfest.at/ check the video at the bottom and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donauinselfest . If hundreds of thousands of people are anything to go by..

2- Red Bull, not only for the air race, but for the red bull air museum and their acrobatic shows:

3- Finally, this shouldn't go unnoticed on a forum full of nutjobs, the Glock comes from Austria...

But we still haven't established that Austria isn't boring

-
as long as the restaurants do not in general close at 9pm or 21.30, as it was in Edinburgh ( I finally found a nice Indian restaurant still open halfway between the two castles), the country cannot be as boring as claimed above

-
most cities on earth have some extent of mismanagement
attractive cities tend to be expensive
wannabe yuppies are attracted by attractive cities, as are criminals
-
so, no reason to despair

i have to agree on the taxi drivers, myself and myt332 got done by one. We arranged a good price after haggling with him, he took us to the hotel then insisted on a higher fee. He claimed there were too hotels with the name we said, and the price he quoted was for the other one - funny how he managed to drive to the right one though! Sadly we had no change and had to pay it, otherwise he would have got what he quoted and been told to go forth and multiply!

Here it is: a football derby between SK Rapid Wien and FK Austria Magna. Things are now so heated up, they have to play the derby at the neutral Ernst-Happel-Stadion on the Wiener Prater for security reasons.

Personally, I hope that during the next derby, Rapid will kick Austria's ass.  Wink

Not every place has specific stereotypes. As a whole, Austria is just another European country, which has European traits. They like good food, they like culture, they are known for the intellectuals who spend all of their time eating the Opera torte at Vienna coffee shops. When I think of Vienna, I think of the large intellectual families who owned palaces there and danced the whole night. So,Austria still has its stereotypes, mostly good stereotypes. Besides Hitler, but that is Austria's "secret".

Just to make that clear for all the people who are not sure.....NO they do not sell "Grass to smoke" there. ...it is Coffee House btw.....a very very old Vienna Tradition.
